Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

Nothing since, so it was right as rain for Phil to borrow for a while [;)]
Hmmmm [8D] Does anyone know how much the "Spyder" badge is from OPC? Thinking about removing the "boxster" badge, sorry Rob :(.... Also been quoted £250 for the front bumper to be re-spayed at Scotts of Nottingham. OPC Nottingham use these instead of there approved bodyshop Chartwells [8|] I'm very temped to get it done.

It's not dear - about £25 I think. Nearly did it myself but flat6 always persuaded me to keep it OEM [:D] Have you tried touching in the worst chips yourself? If you are patient, you can get a surprisingly good finish (have you found any I did?). The trick is to get a very fine artist's brush and to put the tiniest quantity of the correct paint in the chip then gradually build it up. After a few coats then a dab of lacquer and you're almost there. If you are really brave you can then use the finest grade of wet sand paper and flatten the lacquer. They are almost invisible then. Failing that, use some polish applied with suitable caution then wax it back up. The chip near the front offside headlight was the worst on the car - depends on how you are going to use it - we discussed it on here before - sod's law dictates you pick up new ones as soon as you drive home and the replacement paint finish won't be as good as the one it left the factory with. You currently have a beautiful 4 year old car - where do you draw the line - if you do the bumper then there are the chips on the bonnet - if you do those, then there are the ones by the air intakes ahead of the rear wheels etc. You could go on forever or just go out and enjoy the sunshine and the empty roads whilst everyone else stays in and watches the football!

It would just be the front bumper. I'm 50/50 on it. Pro's and Con's to both sides. Same with the badge. Some days i think yes, some days i think no ! haha Otherwise, yes i 110% agree, its a beaut!!!

From what I've seen, Chartwells are one of the best around. They did a stunning job on OPC Leicester's classic 911. As for stone chips - the use of a cocktail stick instead of a brush gets good results, the last thing you want is any type of brush stroke.

Massive difference without the badge to the overall look of the car....just looks too nekkid! I think just 'Spyder' is enough - gets everyone wondering what it is [:D]

ORIGINAL: kitchens To date mine has had no problems and hope it stays that way..off course they took a bit more time making the Red ones [:D][:D] Had it checked at the OPC last month on a open day and the horn was found to be sticking on ,so it needs to be sorted airbag has to be removed about a 2hr job strangely though not a warranty job put will do it under good will. Did notice the underside of the tail pipes are a bit corroded have tried to polish out with Autosolve but no joy Not an issues as not seen . Plan a wee run out tonight down the coast[8D]
Try using 1000 grade fine steel wool on the tailpipes with your Autosol. That's how i clean up my customers exhaust tailpipes. Cheers Cliff
Only on stainless or chrome tips ( NOT Black)

ORIGINAL: Mayhem911 Horses for courses. There is a market for every spec, all that proves is that the general buying public choose for them self what is right for them. They won't all be sold with that spec. Behing seduced by the option list just makes Porsche more money .. But the buying public comes in many flavours!! I am sure it will be a great car, wether its manual or not!!
always horses for courses, just be aware that the cars with PDK, PASM, fat wheels and sports seats etc are not the cars which are getting the rav reviews from people who want a more focused car. So yes while there is a market for every spec, it's a bit daft that people with lard arse spec cars quote the rave reviews which are nothing like the cars they own !!! has nothing to do with being seduced by the option list, it is about what type of car you want to drive, comfort nice every day car or sporty race machine. I don't knock people who want the comfort spec car, My R has loads of weight back in, what I find funny is people quoting reviews and timing sheets of a Spyder beating a R8 when 80% of the Spyders sold would prob lap slower than that R8 in the Test. the Spyder tested was the full monty light weight spec car with PCCB's !!! and when you are talking 8/10ths then that's the only spec which is going to lap faster.
If it has nothing to do with being seduced by the option list, then why are there so many specced cars about then? What i find funny is that 90%, or more of owners will never go near a track,so qouting tests and lap times on tracks against other cars on this thread is pointless.

ORIGINAL: zyp My horn got stuck too - so not just red cars [:)] Took OPC about 30 mins - I think there's some new spacers that go between the centre-push and the wheel itself. MrD - this R map on the Spyder .... Would I be able to tell any difference and is it done at an OPC ( my car is solely run on V-power)
when I am back from Spa have a drive of mine see what you think. PS the OPC had to fix my horn also :)

You at Spa now? Lucky sod - I've spent the day in bloody hospital whilst it's been lovely and sunny outside....

think I would be on here if I were on holiday with girls, beer and cars . I am still working !!!!!! off at the weekend then onto the Ring later/

From the passenger seat, MrD's car is one special Spyder. It was exceptional around Anglesey. He can pedal it quite well too [;)]

No Photo to date. This could indicate that the car is either:- a) SOR (I understand when cars are SOR they will not show photos) or b) They just have not got round to photographing

Would I be correct in thinking I could sell my PSE and recover some of the cost of the Carnewal Cayman R exhaust? Where would this put me regarding the warranty given it is still a genuine Porsche part but for another variant? The sound would need to be significantly improved for me to bother. Regarding that stuff about the cars in reviews being naked and therefore the only ones that will attract future interest. What nonsense. Yes, I can see that being the case for an ultra low mileage example destined to be never/rarely driven in a collection. The only 'fat' option that will reverse desirability 20 years from now will be navigation. Unless of course oil has become controlled and cars like these are junk.

I did not talk about future interest, with a rare car all cars will go up. but you can pay 100k for a 72/ 911S or your can pay 350k for a 73/911S same car 200k in price !! same with 964 RS buy a RS lightweight and they are now over 200k, tourers while still daft money , not quite as much. buy the cars you want to drive be it comfort spec or race spec and enjoy them, if they go up it's all good. nothing nonsense about it, that's life :) it seems to upset some, but these people who get upset quote reviews of cars which are nothing like what they own !!! people also get confused about naked car, or no spec, these full on lightweight cars are mostly more RRP with the sports options and PCCB's as the fat bit were free non cost options. my cars very well speced up with a high retail list price. again options are key to desirability, most buyers already wanting the Spyder wheels and PSE it seems. I have added 0.5kg as both my cars are full leather (2.5k option) , it's a must have option for me on a 60k car, really not a fan of the plastic dash and door tops. so no leather for me is a hugh deal breaker had enough of plastic owning a few Lotus's :) track only car then yes no leather but no one I know has a track only car, they are not track cars. My R is a luxury Sports coupe it demands full leather. only thing I wish for at my age is that the R had xenon's but seems very rare to fine them on the R or Spyder, so just run uprated bulbs. my GTS spec would be £73k the base car is what 56k, no way on earth would I buy a PASM 981 with sports seats and all the soft options, it's not the car I want. but 35k for my R in part ex for a £73k car to match it's spec well the number don't add up even with man maths to even think about changing.

Porsche Number 4 at an OPC today and its a high miler at a record high price to match the miles!
