Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

ORIGINAL: MrDemon I pay about £250 :) for 40k value, but might have to up the value a bit again... The issue is most companies have 40k limits for the cheaper prices, state over 40k and the price jumps up loads.
My quote from Locktons was over £800.00! My current premium is £325.00 with a small excess. Who are the guys that do the "official" Porsche insurance when you buy from an OPC? Was that through Aviva?

ORIGINAL: MrDemon mine is Admiral. Porsche are way off what I pay.
Mine is Admiral but the paperwork says Boxster S, I confirmed it was a Spyder with them but never managed to get it changed. Does yours list as Boxster Spyder ?, could be they just didn't have it sorted when I first signed up.

EvO article (apologies for the piss poor quality)

ORIGINAL: MrDemon I just phoned them up and asked about value, they quoted market value at time of write off, so both cars for sale at a OPC are 43k and mine has PCCB which I did list as a option so would fight a case for 45k if it was written off. we buy any car value Spyders at 25k now !!!
Unless admiral have changed their policy, they require factory extras or modifications as they call them for quote purposes but they DO NOT insure them for replacement. They deal in basic car only. Of course it may have changed but is one of the reasons I don't use them. The clause is buried in the modification small print. Sainsburys came out top for me last year. £152 with £500xs. Protected 12 years NCB, garaged with 5k mileage limit on social and commute cover.

ORIGINAL: tyinsky Locktons/Chubb. Around 600, guaranteed value at 36, awful London postcode, 5,000 miles.
I tried Locktons ..but sadly where way to expensive .Went with Aviva again .and they have Porsche approved repairer on their list . I took one of those Multi policies the Spyder was approx. £230 protected NCB excess £500 I believe the excess is the same on all Porsches and the like

On the Spyder arguably this is less relevant, as the "standard" car appears to be the more valuable (e.g. Spyder wheels and buckets). They also allow themselves to use second hand parts to repair your car if it's over three years old, and won't cover the cost of an OEM windscreen (they'll fit a pattern part which will invalidate your Porsche warranty). It is certainly cheap cover, but it's worth bearing the possible additional "costs" in mind.

Annoying that at least one of their possible purchase options isn't actually a Spyder in the picture (and that the feature picture doesn't include the Spyder wheels. But still, this sort of publicity is great!

Some of that is true! Insurers will always try and pressure you into using their "approved body shops" which can be cheap and poor quality. They can't force you to use them though even they try and imply they can. An insurer can't make a repair to your car that will invalidate your warranty. I've had experience of this when someone reversed into my parked M3 only 3 days after buying it [:(] There are actually EU laws stating this and although I can't remember them now I did quote them to my insurer at the time of the incident.

That's good to know BigE because as you say, it would be wrong if the insurer could force you into a repair that invalidated your warranty. Good point.

I had to get new insurance recently for a car. - Went to the compare sites and got some cracking quotes. - I rang up the insurer (rather than complete the deal on line) because I will not insure if the Help desk is other than in the UK. - So questioned asked and It was in Scotland. Fine. - then they asked me if I would like the following added to the policy. -- Would I like lost key cover? -- Would I like us scratch protection (not me the car)? -- Would I like lock you keys in the car protection? -- Would I like Fill it up with wrong juice protection? -- And so the list went on I stopped them at this point. I asked them if I was booking a seat on a budget airline on were we still talking car insurance? Whats coming next I thought? -- Would I like a translator protection for when I rang the help desk (sorry Brian)[;)] Needless to say I moved onto another insurer? What else could they add/you add to the list?
