Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

For the Spydermen who seek lightweight [;)] http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/Secret-new-cars/Search-Results/Spyshots/Porsche-718-roadster-scooped-baby-Boxster-here-in-2016/ Porsche 718 roadster scooped: baby Boxster here in 2016 By Georg Kacher Spy shots 10 July 2014 12:53 Get set for the £32,000 Porsche: the new lightweight, back-to-basics Porshce 718 roadster. The two-seater will be based on a cut-down version of the current Boxster, but with all-new, four-cylinder firepower and a no-frills approach to equipment. Think Porsche’s MX-5, and get very excited indeed purists. Porsche 718: a name plucked from the history books Named 718 as a nod to the four-cylinder racing car (built from 1957 -’62 and raced by Graham Hill among others), the 2016 version shares its wheelbase with the Boxster but features shorter overhangs, a lighter body-in-white and bespoke body panels. With a 1190kg weight target, the 718 could weigh 120kg less than its roadster brother. Much of that will come from the reduced cylinder count. The all-new flat-four engine will be Porsche’s first since the 912’s in the mid-’60s. The four displaces 2.0 litres, is turbocharged, and punches out a decent 286bhp and 295lb ft. Click here for more news on Porsche's four-cylinder plans. Porsche's four-cylinder engines: 2.0 and 2.5 Porsche will also bore it out to 2.5 litres, yielding 360bhp and 347lb ft. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch ’box. The drive to minimise mass means the 718 gets a Spyder-style canvas top (with a light, Perspex rear window); the roof can be dropped manually from the driver’s seat. The rollover hoops are fixed to reduce complexity; ABS anti-lock brakes, ESP stability programme and four airbags complete the mandatory safety kit. Steering is electrically assisted, brakes will be made of steel and the suspension will be tuned for maximum grip and supersharp handling. Inside the Porsche 718 roadster The cockpit continues the pared back-approach. The lightweight seats will be adjusted manually, and the instrument panel is simple compared with the complex electronic systems trickling through to cars like Audi’s new TT. The 718 is part of Porsche boss Matthias Muller’s strategy to reposition the Boxster and Cayman. Today’s cars will receive a mid-cycle revamp in 2016, triggered by the 718’s introduction. The Boxster will be pushed upmarket, with a price north of £40,000, more power to keep it ahead of 718, and a more luxurious spec. Indeed, the Boxster will be positioned above the Cayman for the first time, leaving the fixed-head car sandwiched between the two drop-tops in the model line-up. Facelifts for Porsche Boxster and Cayman: what to expect The Cayman/Boxster’s modest generation 2, mid-life facelift covers the bumpers, lights and wheels, while other upgrades include a new steering-wheel design with a rotary drive mode selector, and new infotainment and driver-assistance systems. The four-cylinder engines should filter through to the 981-generation Boxster/Cayman later in the decade, but not before the exciting 718 gets time to establish itself. Bring it on!

ORIGINAL: jdpef356 I had to get new insurance recently for a car. - Went to the compare sites and got some cracking quotes. - I rang up the insurer (rather than complete the deal on line) because I will not insure if the Help desk is other than in the UK. - So questioned asked and It was in Scotland. Fine. - then they asked me if I would like the following added to the policy. -- Would I like lost key cover? -- Would I like us scratch protection (not me the car)? -- Would I like lock you keys in the car protection? -- Would I like Fill it up with wrong juice protection? -- And so the list went on I stopped them at this point. I asked them if I was booking a seat on a budget airline on were we still talking car insurance? Whats coming next I thought? -- Would I like a translator protection for when I rang the help desk (sorry Brian)[;)] Needless to say I moved onto another insurer? What else could they add/you add to the list?

When Porsche had the idea a few years ago I thought nooooo, not another sports that will have to sit under the 911 and this time also under the Boxster. But as they have gotten carried away with producing cars like the Macan and no doubt a junior Panamera will follow along with the Panamera Sport Turismo, I would welcome another sports car to the range. I hope they make it! To make it quick enough to justify it's price tag, they may have to bump up the performance of the Boxster / Cayman as it will be difficult to make a little lightweight thing like that into a 6 second car unless they really stunt its performance. Still enjoying the turbo. Took it back to my little test route - short twisty B road section. I was paying attention to my gears. With the Spyder I would change up to third to drop the performance a little where necessary and make it more manageable. With this, because peak torque starts at 1950 rpm, changing up to third just opens up more acceleration, so I have to keep it in second when wanting to reign it in lol.

ORIGINAL: Big E An insurer can't make a repair to your car that will invalidate your warranty.
Can you recall the basis for this at all? Would be useful to be able to confirm it.
I'll see what I can find out, I have a feeling it's tied in with the laws about not invalidating warranties if your car was serviced by and indy but used original manufacturer parts. I believe insurance repairs are covered in that as well. There seems to be plenty of references through Google but no links to a definitive document.
