Low mileage private seller if anyone is looking for this spec Spyder http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C537160 This was on Auto trader for a while recently. Reads a lovely low mileage and late registration example. I think the combination of black with no air con or PSE is the issue.

You are quite right but others will say all that weight saving is a real plus [:D] In the meantime I say to all Spydermen past present and future

2015 981 Spyder about 11 months away so in the meantime the only Spyders being built today are in this video[:D] If robots, computers and lasers hadn't been installed in the main factories a 991 today would have needed a mortgage to finance it[;)] http://blog.caranddriver.com/must-watch-amazing-video-of-the-porsche-918-spyder-being-assembled/

Good luck with your Spyder pick-up tomorrow and hope you have as much fun in the warm winter sun as I did this morning 10' too[8D]

Talking Spyders with a couple of mates who own them. They are due a warranty renewal soon, Porsche asking £1600 a year apparently? I suggested, sticking the money in a reserve account, doubting it would be required.....is this madness or consensus? Mods / Admin; Have you considered archiving this thread and opening a new "Extinct Spyders 2 " thread......it would load a lot quicker.

If you use the quote function you will see the link that I have used above - it starts with http and ends .jpg and that's from using photobucket. Weather looks a bit iffy in Scotland for Saturday Brian! Have you got a snow plough for your Spyder? [:D]

Hi Paul. £1600 would be for 2 years cover. I always ran mine under warranty but they are proving to be very reliable cars. I had a fault with the fan in front of the drivers side wheel which was replaced under warranty but that's all. I also had no end of problems with the fuel gauge after I had cruise control retro fitted and was very glad to have had the warranty then so there could be no arguments about who was paying for what - after a new instrument binnacle had been installed and help sought from Germany, it transpired I had a long range fuel tank missed off the build spec!! If I had kept mine, I would not have renewed the warranty. I suppose it's like any insurance policy - you only get your money back if you make a claim,'other than that you just pay for peace of mind! I don't think any one poster on here has ever had an expensive failure though.

Seats look very nice ...would consider doing mine do you have a small piece of the material you could post up to check out the shade I will send stamps down to cover costs . Also not you have some wear on the bolsters where the seat belts meet same on mine

kitchens, if you PM me your address i will send some to you. red never shows up well in pictures. all the parts i cover can be easily put back. the seat centers are just velcroed on so just take 10 mins to refit, the dash sections i am covering come off ebay so the origional ones are not touched. the three dash sections do take longer to refit. i will soon get those sorted. the dash ends just click on and again off ebay. i have a new sports design wheel to fit, was going to get it also done in grey alcantara but now it has arived i do feel it is a shame to recover a new wheel so i might send the origional wheel to Royal to have that one recovered in grey with red band and stitching. all the Martini stripes can easily be removed and new Porsche stripes refitted. i need the car to be able to be put back if needed within a day, that was the aim. the only other thing then to do is when i get new tyres i will get the wheels repainted in the white as that was an listed as an opption. the outer dash sections/ends are the same for all 987 cars, checked numbers on PET. the glove box is not allways the same numbers but the outer is the same. this is what happens when you grow up with custom and kit cars, a need to mess with things

It's an interesting topic. I was originally leaning towards not extending the warranty but did so on a 1 year as I decided I would be selling the car in a few months and it would help the sale. I did call on it for a broken key so probably got half of it back. During the original 2 years warranty I had a couple of things replaced such as the climate control unit (the display started playing up but it worked fine), a roof component and a gear lever cable. The costs may not have been catastrophic, but with labour on top, not insignificant (the car was still under factory warranty but say it was older and bought privately with no warranty that would've been a rough year - but then don't most bugs get ironed out in the early years..). I reckon after a few years under manufacturer and the OPC warranty (under which much of any problems would get resolved), just having money put away thereafter to cover potential further issues is no worse a strategy than any. After all, if the issue isn't covered by the warranty, you still have access to your money. You could even look beyond 2 years and consider that if say you had the car for 4 years and in that time you had an item fail that cos £2000 to repair, over the 4 years you'd have paid £3200 into the warranty, so would have cost less to swallow the £2000 repair yourself. I have no choice with my current car as it's 8 yeas old and so will be ineligible when the OPC 2 year warranty runs out. Anything short of a catastrophic engine failure I'm hoping I can swallow myself. But if you go the extended warranty route it's not all dead money & you might claim back half of what you paid and the other half goes towards piece of mind. With the DFI engine being more robust that its predecessor, I guess that 'piece of mind' payment is a little harder to justify.

Tks RobK and Flat6 for thoughts on the warranty. The Spyder is unlikely to be sold anytime soon, so owners will likely let the warranty lapse. Cheers.
