Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/porsche/wanted/new-2015-boxster-spyder-wanted/3914600 Someone's keen to get their hands on a 981 Spyder.

Quote mrD "But a GT3 does not have motorsport engine either " But it does as it is not the same as a 3.8 dfi that's in the 991s gt4 and spyder. Although this engine is short lived as the way I read it the RS has the new engine that all cars will be based on!

What race car is it in ?
i did not say race engine I said Motorsport developed! The gt4 has a 991s engine same as the spyder!the gt3 has a proper dry sump with strengthened internals. Now if they put the gt3 engine in the gt4 then that would change what I posted yesterday! If they make a race gt4 it will not have the 991s engine but a proper Motorsport engine ie 991 gt3 engine or a version of the new RS lump

saw a black Spyder in bookham Surrey today. Rv11 ... With turbo 2 wheels. Only the second one I have ever seen on the road! Anyone on here?

So would a Spyder GT4 be a track day machine first and road car second[&o] Spurred by demand for the Cayman GT4 exceeding all its internal predictions, a senior source at the company said, “We are looking at it right now. Much of the engineering has already been done for the Cayman, so we think this might be a good direction for us.” A GT4 Boxster Spyder would most likely adopt the hardware seen in its Cayman equivalent. The Spyder already shares that car’s 3.8-litre engine but lacks its GT3-derived fully adjustable front suspension and bespoke rear suspension. It would also gain full GT3-specification brakes in place of the 911 discs on the Spyder, plus the Cayman GT4’s aerodynamic package. Porsche would need to watch its pricing because, at £60,459, the Spyder is already close to the £64,451 asked for the Cayman GT4, higher in its model hierarchy. In the meantime, Grant Larson, the chief designer of the Boxster Spyder, has revealed more details on how the Spyder shed 30kg relative to the Boxster GTS, despite its bigger 3.8-litre engine. Savings included 11kg by fitting sports seats, the same again from the car’s largely manual roof arrangement and 9kg from deleting air-con. In total, 55kg was saved, from which items including bigger brakes (12kg) and wheels (2kg) can be deducted.

GTS has 20" wheels like Spyder, and Spyder wheels supposed to be lightweight?

thanks. Tyre sizes are the same, aren't they? wonder why wheel sizes up but tyre sizes the same .. probably to push wheels further out for a better stance :)

They fit 265 tyres on 9.5" rims, 10.0" and now on 10.5" rims. This http://www.tyresizecalculator.com/tyre-wheel-calculators/tyre-size-for-rim-size-width-calculator suggests 275 and 285 on 10.5" are the ideal and 295 could be mounted

Should the 981 have had the classic 60's side stripe[&o] http://www.suncoastparts.com/product/SKU981GT4STRIPE.html?Category_Code=981BOXSTERSEXTERIOREBM

ORIGINAL: DarrellWilson Definitely in my view - now looks finished off, looks naked without it.
I don't disagree. In the meantime we are down to just one Spyder at an OPC as the Silver/Brown example is no longer advertised so presume SOLD [:D]

I'm also keen to get my hands on one ! Just heard from my local OPC that they are only getting 1 car.... I was number 4 on the list [&o][&o] Also told me that he didn't think anymore GTS cars would be coming either... Not a good afternoon. Anyone know anymore info on this ??

Is this because of the imminent arrival of the flat 4 turbo's ... 1 car is the lowest quota I have head of so far [&o]
