Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

I have no idea what you are getting at ! I sold by JCW to the trade , it was battered, needed wheel referb and many stone dents in front, ie it looked a mess, got £16k went up for £18k £3k is nice money on a car which needs nothing. OPC aim at £5k but have to put 2 years warranty on it.

ORIGINAL: jimmy p IMO there is no way the seller would of accepted much below asking price if anything, why?? Well I called the seller at 0930hrs on Sunday morning, ..............I said I would call him back once I had spoke to a mate to arrange a lift ...........................I tried calling back to firm up viewing time.............Was still expecting to view so was all ready to leave............. This is the flipside of the argument - buying privately. Not directly linked to above as sounds like seller had already committed to the trade bid, but you so often get messed around, played off, even have your deposit "returned" as they have accepted a higher bid and often let down, as I did with my second attempted Spyder purchase...If its any consolation I was third time lucky using a proper Indie, although even then I was talking to the seller of the actual car I bought (on here at it happens) and he went radio silent on me and the car ended up at Indie costing me considerably more....

ORIGINAL: ted walker I understand that there will be a "new spyder" and GT4 on display at Goodwood Festival of Speed in a couple of weeks.
What's your level of confidence that this is correct (re Spyder)? Is your source reliable? My OPC didn't know but then again...... I was uncertain whether or not to go this year, if there is a new Spyder on show then I will definitely go. Was handed a new Spyder brochure today whilst in the dealership, very nice!! OPC were only sent 5 copies, 1 for each of their 4 allocations and one for the showroom. Even the brochures seem to be rare [;)]

Was for sale at £36k now £38900 so dealer must have paid maximum of £33-33.5k![&o]
the dealer prob paid asking imo. you are very neg on prices ! car wanted for nothing£3k to make and if the buyer wants finance then money to be made there.
I'm no expert but would a dealer sink £36K into a car to put a £2.9K margin on the sticker price, from which he then has no wriggle room to make any profit worth getting out of bed for? If someone offers just £500 under the sticker price he's down to £2.4K. I've never been a car dealer so don't know how slim their margins are but I can see the logic in daro's estimate. £5K sounds more like a dealer's buffer.
I wish I earnt enough money to think £3k was not worth getting out of bed for. Ps don't forget to offer me your trade ins if you are happy to take £5k under retail, thanks.
ORIGINAL: MrDemon got £16k went up for £18k
Touchy touchy. It was a question not a statement of fact. Given your example of £2K put on a £16K car, I then still think a dealer would be looking for more profit than that on a £39K car. Otherwise why not just deal in £16K cars at a similar net margin and buy two £16K cars for £32K, make £4K profit and possibly shift them quicker too. As I said i'm no expert but I wouldn't deal in £40K cars to make a similar (£2.9K) margin than I could make on one £16K car i.e. requires less than half the financial outlay and could effectively buy 2 £16K cars and make more profit across them together. I must be missing something. So yes, I think there is a figure that a dealer of premium cars wouldn't get out of bed for I presume. I don't know what the figure is but I expect it has to turn him more of a profit than selling £16K cars for more return. I may be wrong of course. Waiting for an explanation that's all. Premium car dealers seem to make more money than a dealer of daily drivers unless the latter is a big outfit and has the volume. But I don’t get the maths with your example.

The spyder is due its 4 year service next month and the car has done 8000 miles. Do I change the spark plugs or keep the old ones in with such a low mileage ?

Hi SC50 I had the same dilemma last tear when my Spyder needed its 4 year service at 9000 miles. i discussed with OPC who not surprisingly recommended the plug change. The need to change is more related to corrossion issues with potential for plugs to seize in head rather than mileage. For the sake of saving a couple of hunded quid (new plugs plus labour) I don't think it a risk worth taking.

Theyve both been around a while. I was pm'd about the white one asking me if I wanted to put an offer in. People just getting carried away with prices - I was offered another for £52k and it was due a major service ! Bet the guy with the red one wish he'd spec'd spyder wheels ?

It was mostly the PC's who ordered and spec the 987 cars, hence a few around with turbo wheels, I suppose they thought they were doing buyers a favour![]

Sorry but you approached me and enquired about the car which I kindly told you about but you wanted something cheaper! What did you end buying and paying as a matter of interest? Is a one private owner late build low mileage car worth the same money as something over a year older with 5 x the miles and perhaps 3/4 owners?
