Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

I have already mentioned some where else that it might be on par or below the gt4/Spyder steering feel as these were upgraded over standard 981 so 10% increase in steering feel for 718 over base 981 is only a marginal improvement and most wouldnt notice!

I see the Spyder no longer appears on the Porsche configurator -wonder if that's it and what the final tally is?

it's still there , just not as easy to find, and there will be at least 150 cars but as normal it seems more cars have been coming though, just like GT4 and RS's some have been bought forward and new ones are June build.

What I find odd is overs are low which is nice if you want one, but still not seen one sold yet, I wonder why the markets not taking to it, I have seen quite a few GT4 going at £105k, my mate been after one and the 3 he liked all sold within a few days.

I am ni on tempted to offer list on these 981 SPyders sitting around in the hope by summer they will go up lol but is the market that small that people just would rather the new 718 faster model ?

i doubt that's the reason as the few Spyders for sale were not selling even before the 718 and its performance figures were announced; the car is superb but has been totally overshadowed by the GT4 which has become the hype car of the moment;

lets face it the GT4 won't be much if any quicker on the road than the new Cayman S turbo with PDK but it's still selling at a hefty premium.

every new iteration is faster, but better? All depends what floats your boat.

anyway what's the GT4 like on the road how are you getting on with it?

I like it, I would like 420 Bhp though as at 7k it's not doing much, wish it had the 991 GTS engine that has some top end zing.

so you are using it then and run it in ?cant wait until I can take mine above 4k rpm its a painful process

I am loving mine and just want to drive all the time , never felt like that with the spyder.

I was in waitrose carpark yesterday and even had a stranger in a 911 came up and want to talk about it and how he would have loved one but was late to the party to get one ,I have never had that before in any of my previous pork

Could it not just be that Spyders were bought by genuine enthusiasts who want to keep the cars rather then speculators trying to make a quick profit (GT 4)

not true, I was talking 987 SPYDER.I own a gt4 but certainly no speculator.

Also not true not all 981 spyders have been bought by genuine enthusiasts some have been bought by poseurs and speculators alike on the back of the 987 spyder

I think you are partially correct. From the way people talk I expect the Spyder will have a more sustained but less hype-driven following. Might not reach the premiums of the GT4 but owners might hold them for longer. The GT4 may get dropped for whatever comes along that is more 'capable'. Can't see Porsche making a Spyder very often. Have no idea about how often they'll make a GT4 but even say a 718 GTS with x.73 might tempt people from buying a used GT4 in the future if you just want to go as fast as possible in a mid-engined Porsche. As as been said, the fact that a GT 'x' car is using a detuned Carrera engine seems to be a focal point on where the car could be improved in the next generation, but i've not seen any complaint about the Spyder lacking anything (other than from those who don't want one, which is normal) as its a different type of buyer. There's already talk about getting the GT4 upgraded with after market mods in the crave to get over 400hp. It's a numbers game that will always be getting topped. But as MrD rightfully says its not all about performance figures. If the GT4 had a bit more "top end zing" (and he has driven one after run-in so I respect his opinion), then I think as an overall experience it would make it harder for say the 718 to come come along and grab attention because it will be no more free revving, being a turbo but may be just as fast if not faster, both from the engine and the chassis.

I'd like to see how Soyders and GT4's are selling in 5 years from now. I reckon whilst the GT4 has stolen an early lead from the off, there won't be much in it in the future in terms of demand. The GT4 may still carry a higher premium but I think that's more dependent on what comes after it than with a Spyder. All just speculation of course.

Agree on most of that, very hard to predict a non 911 market, as collectors and the like only go after 911's hence every GT car has rocket up in a daft way.

In theory if the 987.2 Spyder was a 911 it would be £85k+ now.

The new 981 Spyder and GT4 prices are all about the next model and if it's NA or turbo.

If NA they will be lusted after but I think a lot of owners will switch to the new one inc Spyder owners, but maybe the Spyder not being a Gt will be turbo !

R prices are stable even gone up a little, so a massive gap from the R at £45k to the GT4 at £105k atm.

the new GTS will be faster than all of these cars, so there is room for a 420BHp GT4 RS fingers crossed, I don't want a GT engine either, just the 991 X51 GTS lump will do.

If I had the spare money I would tune a Cayman R to 370BHp and fit 996 GT3 brakes to it. I was close to buying another R on Saturday lol.
