Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

Hi everyone

I'm new to PCGB. Get my car on Thursday & thought it would be good to join. Looking forwards to getting involved with a few club activities.

Here is a photo of my new baby whilst being PDId. I managed to beat the midnight blue metallic car, as mine came to just over £82k. Yes I got carried away but I get the feeling this could be the last of the breed and I love the size & feel of the Boxster as a sports car that's ideal for our B roads (but not with a 4 cylinder engine...)

Looking forwards to getting her out on the open road with the roof down!

Hi and Welcome to the Club

Lovely looking and in that colour and extremely rare car. Congratulations and enjoy.

What part of the country are you from?

The national PCGB event is at the Silverstone Classic this year. We are hoping to get a Spyderman meet going. Would like to think you can join us. Best to purchase tickets before the nd of March using the PCGB code which will get you infield parking and a BOGOF offer.

If you dont yet have the code pm me.

We will need our own Spyder Web at Silverstone[8D]

Mr Wishbone - the Region7 do at Lotherton Hall in early July is usually very good and worth popping along to. Hopefully there'll be something else to go along to in the intervening 4 months!

Regards,

Steve

Hi Geoff

No, not my BGTS. It's been stressful enough speccing this one and then waiting and seeing everyone's great pictures. I don't think I could do it regularly!

I've lost count how many times I doubted myself. Until I saw it, of course! Now I'm just a giddy kid.

:ROFLMAO:

Hi John

i can't make the national event. Gutted. I've already committed to go the the German GP that weekend. Would have loved to have been involved in a gathering of Spyders.

Regards

Jonathan

Hi Steve

I was going through the latest club mag at the weekend and noticed the Lotherton date. I've put it in my diary. I'll keep an eye out for other local events. May also do Witton Castle.

Also what's the Bridlington Motor Weekend all about? Anything starting with a drive up North Yorkshire and ending with fresh fish and chips by the sea has the right ingredients!

regards

Jonathan

Hi John

Looking at planning my Silverstone Classic trip for the Syderman meet.

I'm going to be there Saturday but not sure about Sunday.

Is Saturday normally the best day ?

cheers

Jonathan

I'm not sure what the Brid weekend is. In previous years, there's been a run over to Brid and park up at the Spa for the day to create a spectacle for the tourists! This year, however sounds like there might be more to it.

When the salt has cleared we'll try and get out and about - quite like a run up to Helmsley or Leyburn punctuated by cake. I guess it doesn't fit in with the car's lightweight ethos - maybe we need the extra torque of a 981?

Sounds like a plan Steve. I was more thinking that the cake could lower our centre of gravity!

I'm going to try to make the regional meet in April to meet up with other club members.

Hi Boxster7 Notes on SILVERSTONE CLASSIC

The Silverstone Classic is a billed as the largest Classic car event in the world. And it is just that. For those that have not been before, quali on Friday, a full race day on Sat and Sun with group C on the Saturday evening. Hundreds of car clubs fill the complete infield, both new and old pits open, walk them talk to mechanics and drivers. In the evening a FOC live music, this year features the Stranglers and Reef. Auctions, Live demos, fun fair, shopping village, the list goes on. The PCGB code will get you a BOGOF ticket offer. (note the tickets are now at the lowest prices) from the end of March this offer ends, ticket prices just get progressively more expensive from that date on. Now the important bit, When purchasing your ticket ask for the FOC infield pass. This will ensure you park on the Club stand (which is obviously infield) and part of our of a huge club display. Note Advance tickets only, so no pay on the gate for those fair weather punters. In my opinion you cannot do this event justice in just one day. Its huge. When you get a bit weary return to PCGB area apprx 500 cars (in other years) club shop and hospitality, put your feet up with a cuppa, or something a little stronger if that's your fancy, view the cars and chat to fellow members before heading off again.

This year the Classic is the venue for our Clubs National event, and no doubt the Board will be working hard along with Porsche cars to make full use of the Porsche Experience Centre, follow this in Porsche Post. In the PCGB infield area, Anniversary displays and Concours will no doubt be a couple of the many features.

I'm getting a bit carried away here, you can probably guess its one of my favourite events and I haven't missed one in the last twenty or so years. Go to for full info [link=http://www.silverstoneclassic.com/]http://www.silverstoneclassic.com/[/link]

Another lucky owner of both

[blockquote]Now that the Spyder is a bit more broken in, I'm finding the exhaust MUCH more intoxicating than the GT4. above 5k rpm, the Spyder let's the driver and passenger hear sounds the GT4 driver and passenger can't get. Drove the GT4 today with windows up and it feels sterile compared to the Spyder with top down.[/blockquote]

There seems to be a pattern here[&:]

GT4 owners know (think) they have the better 981 3.8L as its a pucker Gee Tee car unlike the soft top 981 GTS 3.8L version yet the few people out there who happen to own both seem to always report a more glowing report on the soft top GTS 3.8L version especially when it comes to sound track and number 1 factor "fun"

I have to conclude hearing from owners of both flavours if one could only buy one version of the 3.8L 981 then the soft top seems to be the overall winner [8D]
