Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

Please see below a little section that I have put together for all potential customers who enquire about PPF.

When we have been speaking to potential customers recently many are under the impression that the installed film will be completely invisible even under close inspection in terms clarity and contamination. Whilst we strive to install the film to the very best of our ability there are times that some contamination might get under the film and in some cases it is better for us to leave it than try and remove it as this will actually make the film look worse. The film may also have a slight orange peel effect to it. Where this is certainly better than it used to be it is not as clear as freshly detailed paintwork.

Whilst on the training course the instructors told us that it is impossible to get a 100% clean install. The target that they feel is acceptable is about 90% - 95% clean install. If you can imagine installing a cover on your phone and how difficult that can be!

The main idea of the film is the protection of the paintwork and to keep it as original as possible and therefore saving the paintwork from any chips.

The film can also take up to four weeks (especially in Scotland) to completely dry out so when you see the film for the first time there may well be sections that have not dried fully. This is normal and will dry out over time.

Please rest assured that I am in no way trying to put you off having the film fitted but I am just trying to make you aware of all the facts before you do.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

:ROFLMAO: Hi all - I am a new member and due to daro911 letting his pride and joy go to make way for his new 981 Spyder, I am now another proud 987 Boxster Spyder owner. Many thanks have to go to Daro for keeping it in "like new" condition ! This really is just an amazing machine.

Thank you Terry, for inviting all Spyder owners to your R21 Denham Breakfast meet on the 13th. Both my wife and I will be there with the Spyder ..... subject to weather of course. So fingers crossed. Looking forward to meeting other like minded peeps. Cheers, Dave

Well I picked my new Spyder up yesterday. Really lucky with the weather. A day either side and it was either sleet or snow.

Managed to to get a ride out with the roof down. It was perfectly warm enough. I'd forgotten how low you can sit in it with the bucket seats. You just peer over the front & back wings. Brilliant.

Absolutely love the way it drives and looks. Pictures really do not do this car justice.

However the thing that sticks in my mind is the noise! Even keeping it on light throttle and under 5k rpm it sounds epic. I can't wait until I can open the taps fully and here her up near 8k rpm. The videos online do not remotely capture the way it sounds.

Fingers crossed for dry roads on Sunday so I can have another dose.

8k !!! peak BHP on the Spyder is at 6700rpm :) bhp tails off like a stone after that even more so than the GT4 peak of 7400rpm, all part of the detune :-( bit of a lazy engine the 3.8 over the 3.4 I am afraid. It is crying out for the x51 pack, maybe on the next one !

You might be alright for weather on Sunday.

I, meanwhile, will be heading over towards Brighouse in the tintop for Mother's Day [8|]

I've had quite a few installations done now, first one back in 2007 and the front of my car was re-done 3 times and still not great, that was really just down to the actual installer not the film.

Recent fits have been carried out to extremely high standards, and also with the best films now I can honestly say a properly covered panel which is wrapped around the edges is virtually impossible to detect next to an uncovered panel when newly installed.

There will always be an edge here and there which can't be wrapped and you will notice it because you know it's there, but generally no one else will unless looking for edges specifically.

With a high quality install there should be no marks really from the installation, stretch marks can be present with lower quality installations along with other minor blemishes etc.

I'd agree that a total invisible installation doesn't really exist, but a quality installer with quality film can come extremely close to it.

If in any doubt it's obviously ideal to see the work from an installer in advance on a similar car, but not always that easy I guess.

I'm a bit surprised the above letter says contamination may get under the film, if it's done in the correct environment properly this really shouldn't happen, and there is virtually zero orange peel these days with the best films.

The case for installing the film can easily be argued both ways, it is expensive for a good job and the finish can never be the same as the actual bare paint, but it does do a great job of protecting the panels from these stone chips, driving past gritters with a defiant smile is quite enjoyable even !!

The finish must be bad if they mentioned it on the hand over and never even waited to see if you noticed.

Did the OPC actually install the film themselves ??

Bhp may tail off but it'll sound great without that tin top masking the engine note. :)

Would have been great with an X51 and the correct set of ratios, but don't remember seeing either on the options list, so I'll just have to wait for the flat 4 turbo with better gears & steering (not).

I've got a run down the M1 first for Mother's Day duty Steve. Hoping to get back for a run over the peaks afterwards (fingers crossed).

Congratulations to all those lucky guys who have recently taken delivery of new or purchased 987's.

Photos and comments are always welcome.

It was a local detailer who had the car for 8 days but chose to do the job at the last minute and the car was returned to the dealer 2 hours

before collection. I have spoken with the guy and he admitted the job was not up to this standard but will sort it or I can have my money back.

When the film is removed can the paint work be damaged in any way ?

I did consider it, might go ahead now as I think that looks pretty fine.
Personally I would ditch the from PU/spoiler section

In my view the old side script does not fit on the new car. Perhaps something along the lines of this I saw on a Cayman may look better?
