Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

Congrats on a stunning looking Spyder - Porsche can never make a 911 drive like a Boxster IMO too big, too heavy, too wide and most importantly engine in the 2nd most fun place [;)]

I have a while to wait still before I am back in the Spyder drivers seat but I know the wait will have all been worthwhile [&:]

Interesting debate going on PH where the smart money says the future classic Spyder will be the Gen 1 version

Historically that could be stating the bleedin obvious :ROFLMAO: but it was nice to hear from an owner of both that after weeks of driving his newbie he got a different but equally good thrill getting back into what he sees is the real future classic of the two

Anyone on here want to add or subtract perhaps philnott who has these 2 classics in his impressive looking garage[;)]

"Wow. Drove the 987 Spyder today after about 6 weeks of driving the 981 Spyder. The main differences are: a) The Steering is so much heavier which makes the car feel very 'analogue' in a good way and b) the exhaust noise is very, very quiet compared to 981. However, the overwhelming difference, I think, is how beautiful the 987 is when you've not seen it for a while - it really is a very nice looking car!"

[ul][*]Hi to all forum members.I'm a newbie to this as I've only just acquired my first Porsche.Its a 987 Gen2 Spyder in Guards Red with a manual box and carbon bucket seats.I know they are quite rare in this colour, does anyone have an idea of the number of Guards Red ones in the UK?? [:D][/ul]

To be honest i havnt had time to do a back to back yet! However when the 981 Spyder fires up, its like the house is coming down ;P

I have one and only one of two red ones in Scotland ..JD has posted pics of his old one . If you troll through you will find pics of mine, Buckets. Manual Short Shift all the right bits :ROFLMAO: I believe no more than 12 in the U_K

 
When I did my back to back the immediate differences to my mind were as follows:-

987 steering much more to my liking as it was so much heavier in a very pleasant fashion. The 981 felt just a little too light

Sound track 981 in a different league and much more like what I want and would expect from the raciest version of a Boxster model

Performance both cars felt quick enough but the extra 55 bhp & 400cc was noticeable enough to make the 981 a very special drive compared to a regular 981 where as the 10bhp bump on the 987 over an "S" really wasn't enough of a performance gain IMO and it was the looks and lightness that made the 987 Spyder the really special version to own as long as it wasn't going to be your daily driver of course

I think looks wise the 987 has it from some angles and vice versa for the 981 but the interior fit, finish, architecture and space their is only one winner and by a country mile

Bottom line they are both great examples of what the ultimate Boxster model can offer and hopefully going forward that will remain to be the case





 
Yeah red is quite rare. In the height of 987 Spyder activity on this thread, the roll call on thread only captured 2 red Spyders - Kitchens and Jdpef356. The roll call was transferred to page 1 post 5.

Thanks very much for all your help. I knew they were rare but not that rare! I thought there were maybe 30 - 40 red ones in the country going by most people saying around 200 in total were sold here.Mine has the manual gearbox, carbon bucket seats,Spyder alloys in silver, no A/C , no Sat Nav ,it does have the CD-R 30 , chrono and sports exhaust. Just touched 30000 miles so not one of the extremely low mileage ones but low for a 2011 car. Great talking to you all on here and I will join up and become a full member . Very much hoping to attend some of the events in 2016, any suggestions?
