Scooped []
"contrary to the other guy who did this mod, the conclusion I reached with the body shop, as well as with suncoast parts is that holes DO need to be drilled into the rocker panel, so that all the holes and screws provided by porsche for these scoops are used. I'm not criticizing the decision NOT to drill holes, it's possible that just the adhesive provided, and the small holes which attach to the black plastic air intake are sufficient, but I wasn't willing to take that risk. Additionally, i knew I was never going to remove these air scoops, and that if for some reason I did, I could have the holes filled in and rockers re-painted. The risk however of the scoops flying off was not worth it to me.
RWR.. i highly doubt there is any measurable performance increase, at least none is claimed by porsche. You don't need to look back in the thread, all instructions to mount the scoops are provided with the kit from suncoastparts.. use the provided adhesive, use the holes provided in the replacement black scoops, and then drill two small holes in the rocker panels (one above the scoop and one below) to further secure the scoops.
If you want performance.. go with this sequence of modifications and your engine will be transformed.
1. -sport headers with cats (give you a very nice midrange 3600rpm bump and some top end as well as a very amazing sound with PSE on.)
2. -TB & Plenum. (adds horsepower all over)
3. -Cobb accessport with Tune.
Net result of these modifications is approx 45hp extra in midrange and 50hp on top end (60hp if you go with the race headers).
I've been working with John at fabspeed with these incremental changes.. getting the tb and plenum next... just the headers have absolutely transformed this engine for me.. you can tell how artificially strangled it was from the factory so as not to compete with the 911S engine."
