One very happy GTS 3.8L owner here:-

I just want to echo everyone else's comments above. I just picked up my spyder yesterday and I'm already suffering from 'permagrin'. This car is just spectacular. All I have to compare it to is its stablemate below, and let me tell you, I may be reaching for the spyder keys more often. The sound of the sport exhaust is sublime. At times I feel like I'm driving a muscle car, yet it's a 3.8L 2900 lb car! I can already feel the rear end a bit playful, and the balance of the mid-engine design can be felt at every corner. In comparison (and not surprisingly) the RS is more firmly sprung, MUCH more glued to the ground, clearly a car that needs a track to extract proper enjoyment. In comparison, the spyder, with it's open air design, engine 'surround sound', cockpit that fits like a glove, firm but compliant suspension, luscious 6 speed, and exquisite steering feel, just begs to be driven all day on the road. Its performance envelope is so easily accessible, even for me (I am by no means a great driver). By the way, before picking up the spyder I had an opportunity at the dealer to drive a new 991.2 c2 convertible. I was really let down by the experience. It's a beautiful car, interior is flawless, but it feels bulky, heavy, and my heart just sank when I stepped on the gas. They've certainly done an admirable job with the exhaust (considering the engine), but I have no interest in reaching max torque at 1700 rpm (or whatever it is), no interest in listening to a turbo spooling up (and the engine sound, when the vacuum phenomenon is not audible, is MEEK), no interest in getting to 60 mph a fraction of second quicker, and no interest in MAYBE getting a few more mpg. To those of you who have a spyder, you are all lucky. For open top motoring, THIS is the pick of the litter. One last comment. Before picking up the spyder, my intention was to keep it for a year, then trading it up to a 458 spyder. I'm not so sure anymore. The boxster spyder is just that good, and probably worth keeping for the long haul. If I need to scratch the fiat itch, I may just have to find some more room around the house to fit it in!

I just spoke to someone who has had his Spyder deposit returned by his OPC and told there are no more cars coming through.

I am not sure how to interpret that, it could be they took his deposit in case they were able to get another car without a firm promise. Either way it seems as if we are now very close to the end of the production run.

Roll on the next Gen Spyders not making enough obviously once again.
Easy Cliff :ROFLMAO: last time back in 2011 987 Spyders were flooding on the market and being seriously discounted to find takers

This time around I would say Porsche got the quota perfect and judging by the £10k premium on delivery mileage examples that seem to hang around forever this underlines the balance was spot on unlike the GT4's which command 20-25k premiums and seem to fly out the doors in no time at all[&:]

So if they underestimated the market it was for the GT car not the 3.8L GTS version

I am sure I read somewhere the production of both models finishes end of July 2016

Daro don't start him off on that thread again.......

I'm just getting over the last shock and awe !!!! [:'(]

She is not a patch on my Patron girl, unlucky for you guys my spyderwoman is reluctant to come out of the woods to often:ROFLMAO:

Sorry Rob not so I know people who want the 981 Spyder new and not prepared or can afford the premium over list.

So bring on the next Gen Spyder Asap I say for the poor souls who can't get a new one.

Fair point Cliff as I know one or two myself but I think the demand you see is driven by the car being usable for a while with zero depreciation until the bubble bursts[]

I still think Porsche bought in the correct numbers better to be a few cars short than a few cars too many as experienced last Spyder around

True Rob.

But I still don't understand why Porsche do not fill people's wants especially if deposits or intent is shown on any model.

Just madness to turn business down, even more so to infuriate potential buyers of the marque thus moving to another brand if a particular model won't be made for buyers.

Why upset potential buyers of the brand for the sake of running off a few more rather than return deposits or geniune intents to buy.

Still don't get me started don't want to go there [8D]

Maybe that bubble will burst to give geniune enthusiast a chance to purchase and cherish there dream model.

Oh happy days sun's out today.[:D]

Just seen today a 16 reg Spyder in a drive 2 streets away from me. Beautiful agate grey, lucky fella......not sure he's on here though but guessing it's from Hatfield..

yes i also think it will be a fast seller, the car is a beauty and a bit different and has all "the right bits" to sell. just time for a change as it's been over 2 years and that's a long time for me. i think i spent more time cleaning and looking after the car than i did driving it.

on now with my second Atom for the next adventure.

as i get older my cars are getting faster and I appear to be driving slower

Serious amount of time and money spent on this customisation and definitely a 1/1 some one is going to get themselves a very rare low mileage Spyder
