Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

Hi,yes I love it!

I came from a 996Gt3 mk1,but also own a 997Gen2s,I have to say it's the most fun I've had with any car I think.Its the hardcore spec,but after the Gt3 it's fine!

Cheers

Had a great drive in mine on Thursday - my favourite roads around Goodwood. Just spent four hours cleaning her! Think it must be my favourite Porsche - of 9. Never owned one for so long and still get a kick from driving it!

Put me down as an Ex 987 owner and if I was ever in the market for such a car ie cabriolet the 987 would be my first choice over a 981! I am like flat6 more a coupe type of person hence the move to a gt4

That's quite an even split between old and new. Most of the "new" guys have also come from "old" - not sure what conclusions you draw from that one?

Put me down for new too.

Did look for 987 but never found one with the right spec for me so have got that now in this car.

hard to say a conclusion as I stated old and new are nothing a like, I sold my old R, (MISTAKE) Bought another 2 weeks ago, and I have the GT4 so why buy an older car back ?

The older Spyder is def more a hardcore driver focused drive like a big Exige, the new car allows you to go faster easier while sitting inside a tarts handbag and having a sort of working roof (still a shit roof so both as bad as each other roof wise)

BUT that big toque at 4k, PTV and ESP ect take that LOTUS style feel away a bit, NOW that's fine and many see that as a plus point in the new car (stating better in every way), just like people love PDK as they state they can go faster easier !! , I am in the other camp and see the new tech/size, EPS. longer gearing as minus points, the 3.8's engines not even the be all and end all either. the flagship cars should have had the x51 pack !!!!

The thing is we have a choice, neither is right or wrong, only the owner knows which is right for them and if it makes the owner happy it's all good.

The issue is people HAVING to sell the old car to afford the new and then regretting the buy, but then that's life and one can sell the new one at £15k overs and buy the old one back so a win win still anyway ! , I doubt any one will though, it's only me who is crazy buying older cars back !!!

The 987.2 R was the last true Analog Porker imho !!! and for that I love it, Passive shocks, Hydraulic steering, real diffs, manual , the car really works just like the 987.2 Spyder was a year before.

NO new Porsche will give you that feel NOT even the mighty 911R, so end of another era now every car has EPS and PTV.

Some might say the 981 is the end of an era of NA, but it's not all new tech and it's not old tech so the GT4 and 981 Spyder do sit a bit in no mans lands where imo the next GT4 and the Next Spyder will prob be better cars than the current ones esp if they DO fit the flat 6 3.8 with x51 !!!

The 987.2 range were really a very nice sweet spot for the driver, who wanted to just go and be one with the car, new enough to have the toys and not break down, old enough to have all the feel one would want.

A lot rides on the next GT4 and 981 Spyder to see if the current cars hold up as something special or were just has beens with the worse of the new tech and the basic 3.8 engine !

I am in 2 camps about the new cars, as if they do bring out a GT4/SPyder with better steering, x51 and shorter gearing my cars will be gone like a shot, if they are not NA units then we have the only cars with the NA 3.8 !!

prices will either crash or rise like a rocket !!

The GT4 and the 981 Spyder are still great cars, but the new models will be the KEY to how great !!!! as I cannot see any current GT4 or Spyder owner keeping what they have if the new cars are still 3.8's !!, where the 987.2 WAS the last of that era and is what it is.

Here's the original list fior the 987 that I compiled and then updated by daro911 when I became Spyder-less :) But then we became too massive a group to keep up with plus the 981 arrived :)

Interesting thoughts on the differences (although enough similarity to entice a good few from old to new). I'd add that, at the price point that the 987 occupies, there is nothing that would tempt me to change. If the 981.2 happens to spawn a 6 cylinder Spyder, then maybe I'd like to think I'd be interested, but the cost to change would chime in to my "sensible head" (even though residuals should mean you eventually get it back at the end of the day). The draw is the engine for me, but I take the point that more is better, so the X51 would be even more appealing. This side of a McLaren 570S or V12 Vantage Manual (which ain't going to happen in our household unfortunately) I can't think of anything that is tempting at the moment! Does age make you more contented with what you've already got?

Another 981 up at Cameron Sports cars with PCCB looks mega in white with Yellow brakes and stitching, £89k

Looks like the overs are too much yet again for the flippers :-( it's going to be a lot harder to get GT porkers going forward.

I think you will find Mr D that there are 981 Spyders x 6 on PH but a whopping 23 GT4's with wildly varying prices 94 - 116k! so looks like any chance of getting much over list has now passed

this has been talked about, cars don't seem to be dropping and they are at >£25k overs, so "any chance of getting much over list has now passed " does not really ring true imo.

One could put up a GT4 at £20k overs and it sell imo £20k is a lot of overs. I cannot see 24 cars, but yes there are alot

But when you start to look at spec, if you want Buckets and leather they start at £99k !! so a clear £25k over list price.

Some of the PH adverts are still at £30k overs !!! that was 2015 prices and yes dreamland but holding strong.

but it seems 27% profit atm , not to be sniffed at. Spyders are a tricky one, 1/2 the cars sold vs GT4 and prices from £75k in 2015 have gone to circa £90k in 2016

again £90k is a tough ask imo.

which ever one you want to sell it's clear its 12 months free motoring and still £10k at the end of it even if you put on 8k miles. win win in my book, free motoring is BETTER than profit imo as some cars loose 60% value !!

If I can use my car for a year and then some one pays me £10k more than I paid, how good is that :)
