Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

Nice 4/5 hour blast to Southwold and back last Saturday in the sunshine! Now on 1300k miles since march!.... Last Saturday was the first time i went to the redline and hellooooooooooo ;) !!!!

It was my understanding that you had to keep the revs down to max 4K in any gear during the first 1800 miles .Mine has only once touched 4K and only covered approx. 950 miles .It does not mean when you reach 1801 you give it beans and red line it . I assume you gradually build up the revs in each gear ...or am I wrong .

The 987 has never seen the red line in 11.117 miles and doubt it ever will .See all you Spydermen at the Classic this weekend as the 987 is on the Boxster Evolution display

I'm just over 6k in mine now and loving it !!

Enjoyed the 125mph cruise down the Autobahn back in May, with a couple of runs over 155mph.

Driven round Goodwood and Spa too since my pick up in Dec.

I know these cars are very pretty to look at, but it's a bit of a shame not to use them with a Big Grin on your face.

looking forward to Silverstone !

see you there [:)]

Doesn't say that in 981 handbook
Men don't read hand books :ROFLMAO: I was told or read somewhere that the car had to be run in ,so will treat mine with low revs till I put on a bit more miles at my rate could be 2017

I have heard lots of different "run in" views. The dealer told me when I collected the car I could do anything from the off! Obvs didn’t!

Up to 1300 miles ish I have had the car up to 4/5k revs and only last Saturday I pushed the car once or twice to 7k revs. My opinion is to vary the revs now it’s over 1000 miles.

I asked senior Tech at dealership.

Advice was to not to exceed approx 4k revs and not to labour the car in high gears for first 1000 miles

Thereafter increase revs gradually.

USA guide is not over 4k for 1800 miles !

but I went above that after 500 miles and slowly built it up, other wise you just end up with a tight lazy engine imo.

IF the car never sees 7k revs till 1800 miles it will be a shock, plus every thing will have been worn in at 3 to 4k so it will not like it one bit.

Agree, the key to running a car in is to vary the revs. If you trundle everywhere at the same part of the rev range you will induce a wear pattern that will interfere with the operation of the engine when you come to use it properly. Obviously doesn't give you licence to use high revs in a new engine when cold. Just apply a bit of mechanical sympathy and common sense and you'll be fine.

Thanks Geoff

You may have guessed it was our choice when we ordered our Spyder[;)]

Adgate has a brown tint to it in real life imo, puts me right off.

bit like that rodium silver having a blue tint, I think colours should just be single colours :)

GT silver and white have been the 2 best looking 981 colours imo of course.

SOLD anyone from here grab this bargain?[/ul]

it was too cheap which is odd for Hexagon esp as the top555 car went for £47k !

and here you were taking the wee wee a little in the top line ;-) "The most desirable possible specification you can get according to some folk" !!!

but it sold quick enough with no radio ;-)

on another note OPC seem to ignore the NOT for sale request from Porsche with 5 981 Spyders on the OPC site at overs which is naughty !!!

I was told they can advertise cars such as Spyder, GT3 & GT4 at overs only where UK production has stopped, so maybe that's what's happened.
