Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

makes no odds imo, better off without it, it's only ever hassle and expensive going forward expect to replace condensors now on 6 year old spyders, and later rads.

the newer 981 might need it for better resale, but not the 987.2 car.

There are buyer for both cars so value don't change, one might say a stripped out car should be worth more as that was the concept idea behind the whole thing !

If you want to add all the weight back in, the 981 GTS is a far far better car with a really nice roof and more Bhp.

You either get the Spyder or not imo, it's an OPEN TOP concept !!! SO why the need for air Con !

and don't say to demist the widows !!!

I ran Lotus's for 5 years none had AC, My Spyder was to replace that sort of car, not play at it and reload all the crap back in.

Climate/AC is a must have, just wait for the right spec if you are not quite happy with what's available now.Talk to Tom or Terry at 911V

Thanks for the comments, I guess its not a deal breaker either way for me if it has or hasn't got AC as I am only going to use in decent weather anyway. The PSE missing is also not a problem as I will refit it, otherwise both cars I am seeing do have the right spec albeit a bit on the light side. I would love ceramic brakes after having them on the Turbo S but I imagine waiting for one with those will take a while. Actually there is one car available with ceramics and a very good spec but its 48Kgbp and has 23K miles on it ([link=http://www.silverarrows.co.uk/boxster-spyder]http://www.silverarrows.co.uk/boxster-spyder[/link] )

One more question, can you retro fit the short shift to the manual?

Just a personal thing mine has SS and it is quite a notchy feel to it but have never tried a non SS so can make no comparisons ,the 981 is completely different so smooth a change .

Having looked at that ad it is not so overly priced when you add up the extras over the others and being a 2010 it should have also had its service done this year and 23 K is only 3.8K per year >Mine is a Sept 2011 and covered 1300 so 2.6 K per year that's only an extra a trip down south (Silverstone ) and back for me .

OK PCCB on the 987.2 transforms the car. the weakest point on the Spyder is the small 4 pot 330mm brakes> the 6 pot 350MM PCCB are stunning, just ask any one who has been out in my car , instructors inc, they cannot believe where I brake.

23k miles is still low, I think I would go for the PCCB car with PSE and suck up the £48k price, not that expensive if you add a PSE to the cars you are looking at really and you get stopping power in spades, ie it's over braked for a car at this weight.

PCCB are rare as hens teeth.

I am busy Friday now so alass cannot make a Notts trip :-(

I had short shift fitted to mine just after purchase, definitely worthwhile, about £400 from memory, I just had it fitted when the car was serviced.

If there is margin for offers on the 48k car could be an option, the mileage really shouldn't make much difference, its just run in [:)] they're just adding a "Posh Putney" premium.

Mine is a "no aircon" car, and I've never felt I needed it in the UK. I did miss having it once in Italy when ambient temps were high, but that's about the only time. The other point to consider is that no aircon = no aircon condensers to need replacement due to stone hits / leaves rot in their susceptible positioning.

Gents, its good news as today's expedition was worth the drive.

got up to Top 555 at 10am, wow what a showroom they have, immaculate full of high end cars, Mclarens, Fezzas, porsches i could have spent the day there. Also Tim the director was a real gent and showed me round the facility then onto the Spyder. I have to say presentation was 10/10 and the car very nice indeed. I was put off a bit by the number of owners as i would have been the fifth But condition was great, I was honest with them and told Tim i had another car to see.

next a short drive to Nottingham to J17. When i arrived didnt get a good feeling, a much lower 'class' dealership on a busy road in Nottingham.....not a good start, all the cars on the forecourt looked tired and i assumed i had wasted my journey. However, i then met Lee the salesman who seemed a decent bloke and he ushered me off to a separate lockup around the back where the Spyder was sitting. I have to say i was immediately impressed with the car, i could only find one tiny stone chip otherwise it was out of the box condition, even underneath its as clean as a whistle and definitely a dry weather car. And to think it is a one lady owner with 6,600 miles on the clock and perfect Porsche SH i cannot believe someone else hadnt bought it, other than it has no A/c.

anyway the car is now mine, it will be delivered on Monday. I got it for 43.5k i think a bargain!

will report back once ive actually driven it 😄

I must say the last few cars I have owned I have not test drove.

I doubt I would let people test drive a mint dry use 6k mile car either if I were selling, to many tyre kickers wanting a go.

Sorry find that hard to believe ....my 987 Spyder with just 1400 miles was taken on a good test drive to make sure it suited me before I parted with my hard earned cash . The only car I have never driven was the 981 Spyder purely because there where non available at the time .In all my years of ownership and having over 100+ cars I have never purchased one without a test drive . So you see a nice top end car walk in a buy without even a test drive don't think so !

Any way I am sure the new Spyderman will not be disappointed with his new purchase and enjoy the car as much as we all do .
