Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

Agree a run out to heat up the engine and take it up to temp is the best ...the problem with this is you have to tax the car on DD and that is anything from £23-£45 a month for just say one days use hardly seems worth it .Most will have the cars on sorn so a run is out of the question
Why does anyone not use the car over winter ? These are modern cars with no corrosion issues and only requiring a little less right foot to stay safe.

Some of the most memorable drives we have had in our Spyders is roof off, heater on full, blasts to some far away tea house, on cold, clear blue sky days in Dec/Jan/Feb - joyous..and that's with buckets not even the heated chairs...You're really missing an experience here..
Totally agree, the best drives are winter ones!

I have to agree with Mr D, Winters here do make a car look tired very quickly.I would not enjoy driving mine round the local roads where I am , thick mud from tractors, salt and grit corrosion and very slippery road surfaces.Everyone to their own and I can see how some like their winter drives out with far less traffic on the roads but I really look forward to the Spring when I get her out for the first drive in the sun, it is like getting a new car every year as you get a buzz all over again!😍

My secret obsession of keeping a car as brand new during my ownership by only running it on dry days and generally not in January & February unless we have one of those global warming type winters when the salt and frost never appear down South[8D] In the past I have manged to run my garage queens on December 25th many times with no risk to either of us :ROFLMAO:

I recognise the location of the last two photos. Just round the corner from me in Woodside Park. Think I've seen the 987 around, but not the 981 yet.

Paul.

Recently posted on Planet 9 thought I would cut & paste it here to test the water temperature this side of the pond [:D]

"Now that most of us have had our [link=https://www.amazon.com/Porsche-Spyders-1956-1964-Ludvigsen-Library/dp/1583882006]Spyders[/link] for a season (Californians and Australians excepted. Damn you), how are you feeling about your ownership? Post with a number that you mostly agree with: 1: It's the best car I've ever owned. I would never sell it. 2: It's an incredible sports car and I'm likely to keep it for a few years before thinking of something else. 3: I really enjoy the car but I'm curious about what editions Porsche will make in the future. 4: I like the car, but it's too [ ] and not [ ] enough and I'm thinking of selling it. 5: I'm not satisfied with the car and I'm looking to trade it for something better. 6: I hate this POS" I'm between 1 and 2 [8D]

I suppose that there are different camps.

Some want a mint car and seem to be prepared to have minimal use of the car to keep it mint.

Others, knowing that the Spyder is one of the best driver's crs available, have bought it to use it as Porsche intended.

I fall it the latter category. However, I have taken steps to "protect" my car. Plastic film protection (ppf) to the whole front, sills, and the fronts of the rear wheel arches should keep the worst of the 'road rash' at bay. Then gtechniq CS Carbon (Crystal Serum protection) to protect the remaining paintwork. Followed by a topcoat of Exo to give that "water beading" effect.

But I will most certily be putting the miles on the car as I fully intend to enjoy the driving pleasures it offers. And if that lowers the "cash value" of the car, so be it. Happy to pay that price to use the car and get the enjoyment

Very good post,I totally agree.

Enjoying it is my main aim,and it will be maintained irrespective of cost.

Not really bothered about losing a bit come re sale.

Cheers

Enjoy Robert ...cold. snowy. wet and blowing a gale up here .. 4 seasons in an hour [:(]

Hope all Spyder men past and present had a nice Xmas and Santa was good to you

The battery charge on my neighbour's 981 Spyder is too weak to start it up this morning, what is the procedure for charging, please. The battery is very easily located and I have a charger - is it ok to isolate the battery or will there be issues once re-connected, please.

I'm sure it's been covered elsewhere, but I'd appreciate a quick answer. I've told him to use it more - especially in this good, crisp, dry weather. No salt on local roads either.

Like I mentioned earlier, what a great day today. Blue sky, 8deg, dry, great drive out with the roof off

Looks like its going to be a while before we can do that again so after a massive struggle to get roof secured, not helped by being down for 7 months solid, my clean machine will be resting for the foreseeable now [&:]
