Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

I said last winter you could pick one up at £75k ! Not this summer. And you are misquoting my words all the time to quote a false statment lol !!

i think Spyder sales are way slower than GT4 sales as over 100 have sold on the PH OPC thread and 3 or 4 sell every week, Spyder sales have stopped at these new prices Quite a few cars have been up for 6months. So how can you say GT4 sales are slower lol

As I said if you are happy to buy one at £90k and see value in one at that it's all good.

I could not give give a **** to be fair about prices, being an org owner and act driving my car for 2 years for free and a GT3 on Order the 2nd hand GT4 and Spyder values have no bearing to me, it's blinkered owners talking up prices/ protecting investments as normal, it painful , one make forum can be very Bias. Every one bigged up PDK Spyders on here, who is left on here with one now. We must have seen 10plus PDK Spyders owning come and go All talking up the platform.

Agree they do sell. Interestingly the newcastle car hasnt moved as quickly as I would have expected. Nice colour and ceramics etc.

If you are correct then that car looks extremely expensive considering its history and 100's of drivers to date :ROFLMAO:

For someone who "could not give a ****" about prices "to be fair", you don't half spend a lot of time on forums telling people these 981 spyders etc are overpriced!

I do think all cars are overpriced personally at the moment and a correction is long overdue, and actually agree with you on the finance argument you previously mentioned. I doubt you'll ever change your communication manners. Personally I'd rather not go through the world rubbing people up the wrong way for the sake of it.

While these are special cars, the fact is if cookie cutter 981s drop then the rest of the market will have to drop too. Just like a cayman R is not worth much premium over a cayman S when you can add X73.

The reality is we barely have a government at the moment so cars will get wobbly without any perceived certainty, plus the finance time bomb, plus petrol cars going out of vogue generally. It's all there.

With all that said, it's down to personal circumstances - some are quite happy to run a car and lose £10-20k. Cars used to cost money to run after all! The current scenario is a perfect mix of ZIRP/low finance, QE, low yield elsewhere and less options to buy cars with exciting naturally aspirated engines!!! There's your bubble.

I'm surprised how high turnover both the 981 and 987 spyder markets are. I suppose ultimately they are pretty compromised cars in Porsche land.

I'm loving my 987.

Two questions for fellow spyder owners:

1. When you are not using your car in the garage for a month do you cover with a car cover and if so what do you recommend?

2. Do you store the roof in the boot, fitted on the car or flattened in the house to stop it getting creased.

thanks very much.

Don't cover my car as my garage is very dust free enviroment

I left my roof on 987 Spyder in the boot folded neatly and never used in anger at all so basically thats where it stayed for 4 years ++:ROFLMAO:

Carry on loving your classic Porsche they are great fun

I cover mine with sail cloth as it keeps the dust out and is light plus cheap enough. Only downside is it aint one of those pretty covers.

I always leave the hood erected to maintain the fit and keep the dust off the interior, I have a 981 but always did the same on my lotus which is more akin to a 987 roof.

My 981 Spyder is plugged into its battery conditioner and covered when not used for more than a week or so. I bought a genuine Porsche cover made specifically for the Spyder so it fits perfectly. The roof stays in place to maintain tension (and to support the cover!).

Keep both on conditioners... the 987 has a fancy Porsche Logo Tecnik soft cover fitted ..the 981 has a double king size cotton sheets covering it ...both have the hood up as when folded down it leaves indentations on the fabric roof .

Ian what cover did you buy ?

The cover is an official Porsche item bought from PC Sheffield. I'll post the part number tomorrow as it's late now and the cover is folded away in preparation for a trip to the Yorkshire Porsche Festival tomorrow, although looking at the weather right now we might yet be going in the Macan!

I'm heading off soon to the festival - hope to see some nice things there, but yes, the forecast is a little changeable! Shame for Mark and everyone that puts all the effort into arranging and setting up.

Update - the weather held fine for most of the event, and in terms of Spyders, I think I saw 5 x 987 and 2 x 981 in amongst the great turnout of around 4 - 500 Porsches. It really is becoming a big event now.

Was at Knock Hill racing circuit for their Supercar Day and was the only Spyder there on display .Did a couple of parade laps with the other 60 odd Porsches in attendance a bit wet but sun came out in the afternoon.

Nice display of Ferrari. Lambo .McLaren. Tesla . TVR . all added to a nice day out .

Looks like fun was had despite the weather Gods not playing ball with the petrolheads

Let's hope the Silverstone Classic has better luck despite what the forecast are predicting []

maintain tension = stretched imho. I keep mine under the bed, it's like new and when I put it on, because it's not been kept in tension, it's not stretched one bit after 7 years.

I see the 911V Spyder has not sold at these bargain >£80k prices !! more for sale than ever atm is 11 a record for the 981 ?

What are you on about? How can keeping the hood in a position it is designed for stretch it?
