Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

Absolutely correct Andrew.

718 if it's a four, 982 if it's a six.

Brian
Brian I think you will find certain current 718 panels are actually stamped 982 already [&:]

Christmas morning for me - why is no one else up :ROFLMAO:

At last i have a red 987 Spyder in my garage !

Manual , buckets , sports exh , short shift , black spyder alloys ..perfect !

Original Michelin tyres , that i need to replace soon .

Mike Runnells previous owner to 12k miles , now has another 500 .

Big thanks to him for his enthusiasm for the car . Also to J Dunn and Brian for their

input along the way . And lastly to my missus whose sacrificed her 987s to make way

but gets to use the 981 as compensation :)

And the best colour .did not realise it was Mikes car you bought it was well looked after by it previous owners .I was at the 2016 SC special display .I brought my car down for the display over the weekend and mike stood in for the Friday slot .was telling people how rare Red ones where and we had 3 there . Daros old white car won a prize by its new owner over that weekend not surprised as it never seen rain in his ownership shinny shinny .

They are indeed.

My 718 CS DVLA V5c form also shows model as a 982.

The 718 moniker is a Porsche marketing thing harking back to the 1950's sports racer, all of which were flat-4s.

If the new Spyder /GT4 is a flat-six, then it can't be a 718 on the badge.

So a F4T Spyder would be a 718 Spyder and a F6 would be plain old Spyder as is the current verion with the model showing on a V5 as a 982 [;)]

My Spyder needs new rear tyres . looking at the dates on both F & R they are 2010 PS2s .

I always loved PS2 , ideal for a fine weather Spyder . However i should replace both front and rear

so i could go with PS4S latest technology . I know not N rated but still better than PS2 ?

This will be a fine weather fast road car , occasional tour , rarely a track . So not much cold/ wet use .

Anyone else using them on 987 Spyder ?

I have a track test coming up on Wednesday on PS4S N0 on my 718 CS. I'll be posting my opinions on my 718 CS thread afterwards.

I agree with Steve. The non-N rated PS4S work very well on the 987 CR, so should work equally well on your 987 Spyder.

Brian

tricky subject as cars get heavier, loads on tyres increase to keep up, BUT the 987 Spdyer is a light car so the extra loads on the tyres do make for a much firmer/jiggle ride.

I am not sure my R is as nice on the PS4S for road as my Super sports were , but what you loose in the PS4S ride you gain in spades with wet weather performance or on track.

I would not use PS2 though and stay as far away as possible from P zero 's , but if you are not going to use the car in winter you might want to look a the normal Super Sports, which was the PS2 replacement, while the loads seem the same they do give a softer ride than the PS4S.

in fact if you are not going to winter use the Spyder I cannot recommend the PS4S on the Sypder over a Super sport.

and I have run at least 10 sets of PS2, 4 sets of PS4S, 5 or 6 sets of Supersports, 3 sets of Cup 2's, 3 sets P zero's I tend to bin those, 1 set Dunlops, 1 set Bridgestones. :) and 1 set of F1's (nice soft ride and a well price tyre and choice but seem to go off 1/2 worn but N spec if you need that)

best summer only road use tyre imho = Super sport for that car. (they also can take a track day just keep the laps down per session)

Just wondering if anyone has a LHD 987 Spyder, or know of one that might be available for a photo shoot with a difference by any chance ??

So you have bought that many tyres !!you must buy more tyres than Kwik Fit [8|]

yep, I can never understand why people run 20 year old tyres.

I have had 94 cars and I am 48, cars need tyres, it's just you guys seem scared to buy them for some reason ! lol

Porsche classic 2 years back I saw a red Spyder with tyres so cracked it was scary ! maybe that's the same car the new owner is try to get tyres for now.

Thanks for your input MrDemon as im still on the fence..

PS2 was the best for the lightweight nature of the Spyder/R at the time ,

and is a light tyre .

PSss is maybe a good compromise

But these may be both be stopped at any time and force a change to PS4S anyway ?

maybe MPSS will stop but you can buy them now and they are a better fit for the car imo.

PS2 was a great tyre, hence I have had 10 sets but back in 2008 :) tyre tech moves on a lot.

not even sure why PS2 are still available to be honest.

PS4S is also a great tyre I run this on 2 cars as we talk. but it's much firmer side wall hence why I have said MPSS while you can.

Well no takers for LHD so far, a couple of RHD on offer which may apparently work although not ideal.

Should have maybe added some more info, it's actually for Sony Playstation as it seems they're looking for a 987 Spyder for their next Grand Turismo Sport game.

Sounds pretty cool I think they're actively looking for this model, and interesting esp for any game players on here and something to look forward to, assuming it all comes together of course.

PS - All tyre makes welcome I believe [:D]

Roof Issues

i haven’t had any updates from other owners since my car was in for a new roof, so I don’t know how those with issues have been resolved.

However, I was in my OPC today for a first Interim Service and in our general discussion they told me that Porsche were no longer approving the replacement of faulty/damaged roofs. they were not sure what was being approved, but I guess it is some sort of repair
