Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

Can't argue with that, red is rarer than white but that was because people clearly prefered the launch colour white when ordering.

Im on my second white 987 spyder.

Got to admit I would of bought a red one if one had of been available when I was buying.

Problem is there aren't that many of them around for sale especially when you want manual, buckets, spyder alloys and pse.

No quite my understanding of why so many white ones. I understand the when the 987 Spyder was launched the take up was extremely slow. Dealers were asked to order some to get them into the showrooms. The colour flavour of the time was White and that's what the dealers went for, that's why so many white ones.

Some dealers whilst specking a car thought it would be good to have the Turbo wheel instead of the Spyder wheels.

That's why you also see quite a few whites with Turbo wheels. So the story goes.

Friday is set up day. In the evening is a black tie dinner for club awards.

Saturday. Yes you can pay on the gate Saturday.

Hello chaps.

Amazing that this thread is still going after all these years! It must be a record! Well done!

Made me think, I wonder how is my ex-Spyder getting on after all these years. It was a 2010. How are the roofs holding up on the older Spyders in the case where the roof is on quite a lot? Mine was showing signs of wear at certain rubbing points and didn't look like it was designed to last the life of the car (or it was designed for occasional use, whereas I used my Spyder all year round so had the roof on a lot). I'd done around 25000 miles when I parted with it and the next owner was looking to enjoy a lot of miles in it too. [Anyone on here got RE60 HDK? How's it holding up? :) ]

Enjoyed many smiles per mile with fellow Spyder and Cayman R mates :)

As a founder member of this " Thread " as Flat 6 was ..my hood is holding up well no signs off any wear ..well it has only done 12.500 miles so one would expect it to be in tip top condition .Never heard of anyone with issues of the old 987 but a few with the 981 hoods .

Should have bought your old car Cecil if I remember it was around the £30K mark back then and drove well .

Hope your Italian mistress is treating you well and young Maurice is still winning trophies.

Thanks guys, that's good to hear about the roof. The rubber seal either side of the carbon fibre front section that seals against the window; they started to wear on mine. It was resolved under warranty. The underside of the hood fabric where it sits on top of the rear section, under tension at the corners where its tight over that metal bar that you insert into the rollover hoops - it was starting to wear there. But neither compromised the hood's functional integrity. I'm very picky & was concerned they might worsen at say, 40,000 miles. But you'll never put those kind of miles on I see! :)

Hi Brian. Yes it would have been nice to have seen the car in your expert care. I got £33K for it. About 6 months later they were going up in price! Would be worth a lot more in the condition you'd have kept it in as the miles wouldn't have gone up much more.

The Italian Mistress is a lot of fun. I can see what Chris Harris was talking about now, not that mine goes near a track. But how he describes the behaviour of the car is spot on.

He later drove an early car on UK roads & the tramlining was intrusive. I did the same a few years ago & found it tiring. However a couple of years later they upgraded the steering geometry, suspension and software and it's a much easier car to live with. The TCT transmission software now works really well. Turbo lag became no problem either. So I looked away back then but later took the plunge on a 2017 car which includes the revisions.

It's been a tough season in karting. As is typical with motorsport, the challenges off the track (i.e. how much i'm willing to get sucked into the endless ways to empty my pockets) can make it really hard on track, but he's giving it his all and we're looking forward to making plans beyond cadet karting next season. Can't wait! The photographer got an award for this picture, catching him on the limit :)

Hi Flat6 great shot of your budding racing driver son and I hope your 2019 season doesn't prove as tough for you guys as I know you both give 100% effort 100% of the time

Look forward to a season round up once you both get to put your feet up and reflect on 2018[s4]

Went to the Lotus Factory 70th Birthday party yesterday which was a great event and weather couldn't have been better

Total access to entire factory pictures inside a car factory allowed must be a first :ROFLMAO: and was pleasantly surprised to see all models currently made Elise Exige & Evora finished in Porsche Voodoo Blue for far less money than Porsche charge []:ROFLMAO:

Along with other Porsche classic colours like Viper Green & Gulf Blue

Hi all, my first post. I have an iron in the fire to get an allocation for the forthcoming Spyder, but the chances are against it. If that's how it goes then I'll look at buying one with a few K on the clock as soon as used ones start to become available. ( I'm certainly not thinking about getting one that has been flipped.) I'm wondering what I wI'll have to pay for one that is say 6months old with a few K on the clock; about the same as the cost new or less? Would welcome people's thoughts.

Welcome Ian. If its the 718 Spyder, it seems you may have a long wait. Local OPC told me yesterday 992 slated for Week 48 announcement (seems pretty specific) and all production slots already allocated to 992 and current GT3 orders. His best guess for GT4 and Spyder is 12 months once 992 is embedded. But who knows!. If you want a Spyder, get 981 now and enjoy.

"about the same as the cost new or less?"

- I hope not, as that would suggest a falling/collapsing market and a lower value for mine. :)

I think it fair to say that you would need to expect to pay a premium on top of list price for one of the 'limited edition' vehicles.

If that is the case it seems strange that they are allowing it to be seen now without camouflag, but as you say, who knows. I currently own a beautiful 981 GTS and love it - I'm only going to change it for the 718 Spyder.

Are used 981 Spyders still selling at a premium? It's difficult to tell without knowing the original purchase price.
