Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

American VIN documents in the summer had the Cayman T with a 2.0-liter 4-engine (i.e.Turbo). Very strange then the T shares a rear end with the 718 GT4 and Spyder. All of which are very different from the current 4-pot 718's (central exhausts).

But very similar to the 992 exhaust placements !!.............

Well I’d be happy if it has the 992 engine, but someone said a F6 T will not fit in a 718. Then again, those Porsche Motorsport guys are pretty clever . . .

Nothing a lump hammer won’t solve.

It’s tosh (GT3 engine). See post #463 I made in Cayman GT4 thread re oil system, ECU and engine costs.
What would a 3.8 with X51 deliver in a 718 GT4/Spyder circa 430bhp or is the next engine likely to be a bored out 3.8 to 4L to achieve same results [8|]

X51 3.8L in 991.1 GTS was c430hp

4.0L engines are longer stroke, with same bore. Porsche tend not to push cylinder wall thickness although others get 4.2L capacity from 3.8L base engine with new crank (to 4.0L) and larger bore (for extra 200cc).

A 4.0L upgrade for 981 GT4 and Spyder is available from 2 tuners in the USA and modified cars have run many miles, a lot have heavy track use.

A X51 powerkit in addition on these 4.0L engines are reportedly pushing near 500hp

Thanks for update

So if I was a betting man :ROFLMAO: sounds like the 718 versions could be 4.0L after all but not based around the GT3 for all reasons stated to date

Not long to go before we will certainly know in the meantime I will continue thoroughly enjoying my 3.8L version which easily thrills me and my need for speed[8D]

One final cracking day Monday (16') then it was washed and prepped for winter hibernation although I am living in hope of a few more mild dry days so roof remains down for now [8D]

Certainly not Spyder weather up here .have seen gritters out already .I would not keep the roof down over hibernation as it will end up with those round circle indents on the roof .As to the new model will have to wait and see what spec is offered ,this time needs to have a PDK for me .A fellow Spyder owner with 14K miles on his car has reported the stitching has begun to fray on the roof his warranty is up in Dec so anxious to get it sorted out now .

Brian - Another cracking sunny mild day down here today so one more topless blast was required before winter really kicks in[8D]

Taken from the Syded Owners Club FB page. Excuse the Google Translate translation:

Hello Spyder friends, just talked to my pz seller (at the seller meeting he was informed of the info), there will be 2 Spyder versions. The basic model appears to be the b4t and the rs or r version gets the 4.0 sucker from the gt3 in choked version. This also explains the different test vehicles. However, the r will be limited. Assume that this is not bullshit and I appreciate the truth to over 80 percent.

Many greetings

Torsten

What 'test' vehicles would these be Torsten? The only GT4/Spyder prototypes I've seen on video clips have been n/a F-6s, based upon frequency analysis of the sound clips.

Why would Porsche want to produce two versions of the Spyder (or GT4 for that matter)? Sounds like the usual uninformed BS from somone who professes to be in the know.

Thankfully the protracted speculation should be over soon..!

Jeff
