Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

I think it will be sad if the Spyder becomes "just another Porsche" and as common (to see) as a 911.

They will lose some of that Special Magic.

I agree Chris , but will that fact of making the new one a mainstream production car make the 2 previous models more sought after ?

Quick go ... £82,481 - [link=https://www.porsche-code.com/PLXH5645]https://www.porsche-code.com/PLXH5645[/link] You can spec rear parking this time lol!! My 981 same spec Spyder was 68k... Bargain!

New Spyder - Meh 🙄

New GT4 - seems better news for GT4 fans

Not a GT engine though , Porsche passed on the chance for a last Hurrah Special , really just a parts bin exercise.

I think Porsche have already acknowledged due to the GPF the scream has gone and the need to be PC their cars must be quieter once again

In many respects for every step forward on the 718 better tyres, hydraulic assisted clutch, PASM - their has been definite steps backwards ie CO.2 levels up from 230 to 249 and in the real world the step up in performance (probably due to GPF and PASM = extra weight 105kg!) resulting in 0-62mph of just 0.01 seconds quicker if you rev the 4l out to its new max rpm MPG down bucket seats no longer standard and no production cap going forward so serious depreciation now guaranteed IMO

Bottom line I bet its a real thrill to drive despite the extra weight once so critical to the cars feel etc every ounce saved was a pat on the back for designers and fodder for the marketing suits to hammer home to the punter :ROFLMAO:

The 981 version was the best ever bargain priced Porsche to date and to me the newbie is the total opposite

My spec today ran out at a whopping £85k odd without my full leather buckets £997 in 2016 or PTS £2850 in 2016 factored in and at this price level a bargain it ain't [&:]

So any 981 spyder owners rushing off to there local OPC to part with there hard earned cash then ? or sticking with what they have ? I know what I'm going to do !

Just quickly built one , to the same spec as I have with the addition of rear park sensors with reverse camera and folding mirrors, just over £89000! and you can't get sapphire blue as a metallic colour choice.

No won't be ordering one although I have been told I have a slot will stick with the 987 Spyder as having sold the 981 Spyder in Jan 19 .My spec will run out at just short off £83K PL7M4NK3 spec red again but added carbon trim on doors and dash and centre controls as the centre trim if spec in red looks ott IMO the previous model you could delete the centre trim and just have red round the door capping's .Wonder what brand of tyres they will be shod in as those Pirelli fitted to the 981 look odd and give no rim protection to your alloys where as the Michelins have a decent rim protector .

If anyone one wants a good Spyder number to go on there 3rd generation Spyder I have .

P300 SPY or P30 SPY available on retention .

Think it will be available later on from what I read ...any way doubt I will take up the offer ,was going for the hat trick 3 Red Spyders but since selling the 981 I have had a change off mind in what I do next.

I see the 987 in the long term being the classic one to have [:)] a bit like the R

Definitely seen PDK listed to arrive later

A lot of talk about the extra base cost. The £ is lower against the Euro so that partly explains but i wonder what will happen with a hard Brexit and tariffs. Will OPC put a clause to cover that ?

My ideal Spyder is smaller and lighter so i will be sticking with the first one with its wonderful and unique top :)

So how many of us on here are 987 owners? We've had ours for coming up to 10 years, and I guess I'd be tempted if an OPC said I could have a new 718 version, but ......

We need another £45K Mr Brown to do the deal .:ROFLMAO:

I spoke to my local centre about a new Macan a few weeks ago and was told if I ordered one that there could be a 10% surcharge on top of the price if a hard Brexit were to happen. So would imagine that would be right across the range of cars.

Very interesting article daro911 and assuming its accurate confirms the small numbers involved - quick tot up says only 128 987s and 206 981s?. There has been lots of speculation (somewhere!) earlier in these 970 pages about RHD numbers. Has anyone been able to confirm? Particularly interesting given mention of lack of production limit on new 718 Spyder!.

P.S shouldn't we have our own forum by now!!

Was way in excess of 128 that you mention ...I think the total was around 235 split approx 40/60 between PDK and Manual as to the 981 approx 245 all manual as you know .I do not have definitive numbers but think the total is close enough . As to the 718 by all accounts the run is not limited ,It does not make any difference what Spyder you own they are all great cars and future classics.
