Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

Hi 6,

Haven't seen you on these pages for a long time.! I think a combination of lack of development time coupled with the ramifications of WLTP meant that the introduction of a PDK option wasn't possible at the simultaneous launch of the Spyder and Cayman GT4. I believe that Q4 2020 is a likely PDK introduction date for both cars, although it could be sooner.

Jeff

Hi Jeff

Yeah i'm seldom on here now as I don't have a Porsche. Those days are over whilst I focus on funding my son's racing (it's not easy with no sponsorship!). But I am enjoying a 4C much more than I thought I would. It's a brutal, eager little thing and much better with the mid-cycle steering revision they did.

I think the Spyder will be very popular with PDK.

How's the Cayman?

Excellent.! I can't believe I've had the Cayman for 10-years now, but still enjoying the occasional blast and track day; and it's very much a fun day and Sunday toy which makes driving it more of an event.

Still holding out for a (manual) 718 GT4, but not really that hopeful of success for all the usual reasons. I might consider a 981 GT4 if the prices drop to a sensible level, although it looks as though there's going to be an 718 F-6 GTS with a detuned version of the Spyder/GT4 engine coming out soon which might spike my interest. We'll see.

All the best, and good luck to your lad.

Jeff

First 718 Spyder to be "flipped"[&:]

A 718 flat 6 GTS sounds an interesting proposition in Boxster or Cayman guise. Good luck in whatever you choose!

So having watched a video of a 718 spyder and a 981 spyder being compared together , the soundtrack of the 981 is so much more emotive than the 718. From what the 2 drivers said also the ride quality is better too, but I know this will sound a bit biased coming from a 981 spyder owner but is the 718 worth the extra outlay over and above the 981? Let the deliberation commence

Subject to a test drive my research and wallet says NO for now

Even if I got list price back on my 4k mile high spec Spyder I would still be looking at £25k to switch and as I doubt I would get list price from a dealer today the switch for me would definitely start with a 3

Personally I doubt I will bother upgrading

Have to agree would be silly to change and have to hand over a min £25K for what ? I think the 981 on paper sounds the better car. Never driven the 718 so hard to compare but cannot see £25K difference. Anyway -6 up here so not Spyder weather

992 No longer a proper sports car but this is :ROFLMAO:

These two Car Guys will be gutted when they find out their Spyder doesn’t have a GT3 engine [&:]

Seems to me they are trying to make a heritage pack speedster. Brown upholstery, race stickers and gold lettering. I doubt it will work. Does a you tube film really pay enough to try these mods.

One of the Car Guys is retired and does this for a hobby more than making money - Probably helps him getting anything he fancies straight out of the box :ROFLMAO:

they sell that's why, been a few for sale staring with a 6 even at OPC with full spec.

You said this will not hang about, but it will like all the others over £70k !

trade prices start with a 5 hence the private sales bailing out. Offer the guy £65k he would take it or be worse off next month.

it's a falling knife the car market atm.
