Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

A private buyer is maybe the way to go as you will get a low ball from any dealer .if correct did yours have non Spyder wheels that would maybe alter the price a few £££ ..mine is on an Sept 11 plate 13k miles and been offered upper £40.S for mine private buyers ,the summer will bring prices up again not the time to sell anything..

Yep I have the Carrera II S wheel, however I know somewhere I can get some Spyder wheels if required for a possible purchaser (so its not a deal breaker). There is only a very small weight difference between the 2 wheels anyway.

No desperate rush to sell and will only let it go for the right price. Certainly know that the market will come to me and probably the later I leave it (if I do decide to sell) then the car I am looking at is likely to come down in price slightly anyway.

Closer to £58K for mine new ,have the original build sheet and prices ,but it has the 5 desired bits so to speak . Low miles examples will get £45K come the summer ..he hopes said he [:D]

With the announcement of the new 718 GTS went on the configurator to see how much from the base price it would be for my modest spec £71800..Then did the 718 Spyder with almost identical spec a mouth watering £84360 [:(] not worth the extra £13k . The 981 with similar spec was around the £66K back in 2016 .I think the Spyder is a prettier looking model car than the GTS .I think you will see a lot off potential owners cancelling their order and going down the GTS route ..I doubt current 718 4 pot owners will be happy as it must affect the values off their cars with this announcement.

 
With the announcement I think Porsche has wiped £5-10k off the prices of 718 4 pots overnight.

Not good if you bought outright and suspect majority of owners on PCP will be handing back any cara at the end of term with little/no equity.

Had a little play myself and runs me out at £5k more than my Spyder cost me back in 2016 :ROFLMAO:

I thought the marketing idea behind the "718" was harking back to the good old 4 cylinder Porsche sports car era 1957-62 so wouldn't 982GTS had made a cleaner break between the 718 F4 and the new F6 versions [&:]

 
So is this release then going to change the values of the delivery mileage 718 Spyders/GT4's that are currently on the market? Maybe Porsche have finally had enough of their so called "clients" buying the cars to flip and make a quick buck or 2 ! Is it going to effect the older generation Spyder / GT4 values ? Or are they just trying to get value for money back on the massive investment they had to make in producing the new 4.0L naturally aspirated engine ?

Quite so Rob. The 718 labeling's now a complete mess, Porsche having now changed tack to include F-6 versions in the mix. Unfortunately it's now too late to do anything about it - there's no way they can have two numbering systems in the range. I'll bet Porsche are now kicking themselves for not labeling the 981 replacement the 982..!

And here's another anomaly: the GT4 doesn't have a 718 label, while all other Boxster and Cayman variants do (including the Spyder!). Surely the best thing to do would be to ditch the 718 label completely?

Jeff if I recall correctly when I did my factory tour in February 2016 to finalise my Spyder spec the then brand new 718 Boxsters were coming off the production line and in various stages where the car skeleton was exposed many items were stamped 982 [&:]

What will be the fate of the F4 engine if the rumours that the next generation Boxster/Cayman will be EV's [:eek:]

The current cars are the 982-series, type 718 (or the other way around - I'm not sure).

I reckon if the 718 replacement is going to be a hybrid of some kind then Porsche will be using the F-4T as the main power unit, although your guess is as good as mine as to what engine could be used in the GT4 and Spyder if indeed they manage to soldier on into the next series. But if - as rumoured - it's to be a pure BEV then that will sound the death-knell of IC engines for the mid-engined cars because Porsche wouldn't engineer a chassis to take either an IC engine or a large battery pack and electric motors.

surely there are plenty of options to offload the 4 within the VAG ?

 
I can't see where Andrew. The F4-T with transaxle is very layout-specific and I can't see where it would fit in a VAG range dominated by I-3 and I-4 transverse-engined layouts. And why would VAG consider going to the huge expense of re-engineering the Group's SUVs which have a north-south powertrain layout to take the unit, especially with the emphasis now shifting to BEVs?

The low centre of gravity of the boxer layout has its advantages, but it takes up a lot of room in the engine bay and probably would require significant chassis modifications to install. Then you've got all the crash and emissions testing, etc. Unfortunately it's a non-starter, and I can only think that it will soldier on in the current 718 and its replacement, if that turns out to be a hybrid.

I think the flippers may well find the 718 more difficult to move on as opposed to the 981 when it was being sold on from new, the 718 is a £15K increase over the base price of the old model and as the GTS has been announced think it will soften the appeal for Spyder and a big saving for an owner . will wait to see when the pdk is announced for both models .
