Building a 400bhp+ 2.5 ltr 944 Turbo

Thanks, Paul and Rob, the one in the engine bay has already been changed, I didn't realise that there was one here too. I called my son and he has a number of spares leftover from when he did the engine bay last year. I should have them with me tomorrow along with the seals and clips for the matrix heater pipework. Right now I am reinstalling the rear interior, tomorrow I'll start refitting the front once I have these parts.

Cheers

Pete
Hi Pete

There are 3 in total. Aforementioned in engine bay and centre vent plus another lives in the "sniffer" box behind the small circle vent next to the ashtray. A rubber pipe connects to the box which houses a small fan and a thermistor. It senses interior temp.

Cheers

Stuart

Thanks, Stuart...I recall my son looking at the one with the fan before, I don't think it was ever fixed. Perhaps I'll take another look at it, I wonder if there's a way to test the unit before reinstalling everything? I also need to take a look at the clock...lots to do...:)

cheers

Pete

Evening guys, today has been a good day. well, actually the whole weekend has been good, loots done to the car's interior which is nearly finished. The good news is that the car is now running again and has full heat, now that's the first for a very long time...:)

Three pictures to share, for the first I thought that I would post a picture of the heater matrix pipes before covering them up with all the plastic parts, it may be of use to others who plan to either renew the seals and clips or replace the entire core itself. The tube that's dangling below is the A/C feed to the glove box, this is probably the last bit to fit as the solenoids and all of the vac lines go here first.

With the dash fitted I decided to purchase the extra parts availably which are these nice vent covers which just push in place. It finished off the vent slots nicely.

The last picture for tonight shows where I am as of tonight. As can be seen, the centre console has been refitted, along with the seats and steering wheel, everything has been given a good clean too. The gear lever has a new boot but not fitted yet as the plastic trim support decided it was too old to be pulled around and duly snapped, I'm going to see if it can be glued, if not I'll have to order a replacement. The passenger fascia piece has been left off until I have sorted out the clock which I'm in two minds of whether to buy a replacement screen for repair or fit a more modern digital clock, or even something else altogether, the jury's out on that one. Regarding the glove box lid, I have decided to get another lid and this time leave the vinyl on and just cover the thing with leather. I was making good progress with the original lid but then realised that one of the encapsulated nuts that the hinge bolts into had come out wearing the plastic which used to hold it in place. I, therefore, had a look on eBay to see what was available and found a brown lid for little money. Of course, the colour doesn't matter as it's being covered, added bonus is it has one of its hanging brackets in situ, both of mine snapped many years ago, I'll buy some new ones one day. Overall, I'm very happy with the end result, it does look good, not perfect as i said but good enough..:)

Tomorrow I'll give the car a test drive, I'll probably pop into my son's to borrow his hot glue gun and see what can be done about the boot gaiter clip. I'm confident that once in place it will do it's job but may need another pair of hands to help.

More soon

I went for a drive[:)].. god I love this car, performance to die for, looks to die for and even a sound to die for...yes 951's can sound nice. I spent a few fun hours at my son's, just trying to tie him and his business partner down to a time to paint my car. We actually made a little process, I'm going to pop in again next month to get an update but we have penciled in for June. After spending the last week or so doing the interior, this morning I went mad with the mop and managed to get the old girl looking reasonable, certainly good enough for a local meet. My son fixed my boot clip, used some gizmo which welded in some metal staples, nice and strong now, I should have known that he would have the tool for the job in hand.

I need to get out and drive again, it's good for the soul, even more so if in a 951...:)

The only silencing on my car is the old twin tailpipe off WUF. Quite a few people have told me it sounds great.

I think the 951 sounds pretty good as is but if you have a larger exhaust and other mods they seem to have a roar to them. I do like the sound that mine makes. right now I'm just happy that everything works, having had the interior stripped I feared a few gremlins after manhandling the very tight loom wires. Everything seems back to normal, the only change is the temp gauge is reading a little lower, thinking about this it doesn't surprise me considering the matrix had been blocked for so long and thus now has a little more coolant volume doing the rounds. The needle hasn't moved much, it was just below the second line and it now sits just above the first line.

Heater matrix adds some additional cooling I believe. Richen up the fueling around idle, and you'll get some TVR type pops and bangs too [:)].

I already get pops and bangs, sat in traffic a lot today and moving that short hop with the pop/bangs on each overrun is fun...:)

Last night I ordered a replacement used rear roof panel to replace mine that was ruined from all the damp/water ingress. It's the wrong colour but I should be able to deal with that. It's from a well known Porsche second-hand parts supplier and is listed as 'unfitted', it certainly looked so. I'll report back to how things turn out once fitted.

Yes Pete, I might have a spare boot clip

i bought two centre consoles with the thought of recovering them, still where I left them 4 years ago, mind you I did only pay £20 for the pair

Thanks Martin

I may well grab one of those...I'm ok just now as my son did a good repair but it's probably wise to have a spare just in case. I haven't been able to find those door trims yet, they are here somewhere, clearly, I've put them somewhere 'too' safe....lol

Well, I certainly fell on my feet with this purchase, the description was 100% accurate, never been fitted to a car. This is clear by the fact that not only is it unmarked and in its original shape with no signs of the usual warping from water ingress, but also the vinyl screw holes have never been pierced by screws to hold it to a roof.

I'm a happy bunny, this will be fitted once the car has been painted and the new seals fitted, I will dye the vinyl to the colour required for my car, ie..black. The recent discovery of Autoglym's new product should do nicely for this task, some pictures to show the condition.

Can't wait to fit this missing part...:)

Today was the annual MOT test day, well, actually it's not due till the middle of June but I like to get these things sorted. I took these pictures at my son's place where we checked the car over, needless to say the car passed with flying colours.

apologies for the poor quality, I think the sun was a little strong.

to be fair, it's nowhere near as pink as it looks in the photo but yes, it has lost some of its red and why it's going to be resprayed.. as for Katie... Nah, she has zero taste while the 951 oozes it...:)

I may have mentioned on here before but my Dad bought a silver Range Rover Vogue that had been Katie Price’s and wrapped Pink. He bought it because it had the rare heated boot floor option and he wanted that for the dogs when he got back from riding.

There‘s a bit in Katie Price’s “autobiography“ where she talks about being diddled by her current boyfriend/husband/whatever on the boot floor of her Range Rover in a layby and how it was lovely because it was heated.

My brother then bought my Dad the book for Xmas.

Not my cup of tea Katie, nor her then-boyfriend, I can add their friend (forgotten his name) who owned Bray studio's.. not nice people at all.
