Cayman GT4: Where are we up to now?
- Thread starter Motorhead
- Start date
ORIGINAL: daro911 The Cayman GT4 can be ordered from today, starting from £64,451, just shy of £10,000 less than the Cayman GTS above which it sits in Porsche’s range. In this case, less is more, obviously. []
Ralph, they have stated it's manual only. Is it for you?ORIGINAL: ralphmusic Looks great, have LoI in for PDK version.
Not manual but if/when PDK would buy. As it is the 997 spec 3.8L, I wonder if the Powerkit upgrade would work with an ECU mod? Far more at the top end or why not the 991 tune since the main difference 997 to 991 is revs.
No problem fitting Powerkit 991 3.8L in a Boxster - see my post 515 this thread. The 991 3.8L Powerkit engine in this has been run up to 8200 but is being limited to 7800 rpm. He ran it on the road in Dyno mode (i.e. no nannies at all) and got a lot of smoke from spinning rear tyres in 2nd and 3rd gears, it is cold in Germany this time of year but interesting in terms of mechanical grip without nanny. They have 420hp at the moment and still have to best manage the 6 flaps in the Powerkit plenum.ORIGINAL: chrisH They will probably add the 991 Powerkit to the GT4 RS version down the road. Could be problems fitting the different shape / larger intakes in the Cayman engine bay? Yes, I noted the peak power is at 7400.
Agree, limited numbers will make all the difference... If there are >200 cars coming to the UK and then future versions of 981.2 GT4 or even RS, this car could become old news with the must have the newest, shiniest Porsche very quickly. Letter of intent already in, but will swerve if generally available.
not limited numbers but limited build slots hence only can make 2000 world wide cars with 200 UK cars people with GTS orders are having to wait till 2016 while the GT4's get built for clients. Still means only 100 2015 cars in the UK I have seem that on Porsche print.
Why wouldn't Porsche just stop banging out so many 981 2.7 & "S"'s and ramp up the GTS [&o] Wait until 2016 is far too long in the 21st century 88 Used Boxster 981's on the locator today and this jumps by almost 50% to 129 when you tick DV! 3 used GTS and 7 DV GTS 78 Used Cayman again jumps to 119 when you include DV 4 used GTS and 6 DV GTS so why the long wait?ORIGINAL: MrDemon people with GTS orders are having to wait till 2016 while the GT4's get built for clients.
My dealer confirmed it will be limited as a GT3 is - Out of interest how many GT3's do we get in the UK allocation http://www.porsche.com/uk/models/cayman/cayman-gt4/drive/performance/ORIGINAL: MrDemon not limited numbers but limited build slots hence only can make 2000 world wide cars with 200 UK cars
132 991 GT3 was the last real number to surface.ORIGINAL: daro911My dealer confirmed it will be limited as a GT3 is - Out of interest how many GT3's do we get in the UK allocation http://www.porsche.com/uk/models/cayman/cayman-gt4/drive/performance/ORIGINAL: MrDemon not limited numbers but limited build slots hence only can make 2000 world wide cars with 200 UK cars
Very nice MrD, but I think that the blue one trumps it for me.ORIGINAL: MrDemon think this should do it rodihum with all red bits and 918 seats
Red would look good too. A really great spec and price - very close to our expectations, including the adjustable front suspension from the GT3 which we touched on at some time in the past few months. Can't find any specific details about the modified rear suspension - surely not double wishbone though as stated in the Autocar article? If you have time it's worth listening to what Andreas Preuninger has to say in the EVO clip, despite the annoying Jethro Bovingdon asking his silly questions. Some interesting comments about having to do quite a lot of work fitting the engine in the Cayman chassis, fitting a lighter DMF and a strengthened GTS 'box but with the same ratios [power and torque of the 3.8L apparently compensating for the high gearing]. Preuninger appears to be genuinely enthusiastic about the car - great news.! JeffORIGINAL: MrDemon

So come on then!! Who's in?
Sorry, a bit late to the party MrD - only just got home after being away over-night [but not camping out on my OPC's doorstep I'm afraid!]. Giving this some serious consideration having seen the final product. An excellent spec for the price I think. JeffORIGINAL: MrDemon where is "Motorhead/Jeff " today, at his OPC
I think I am , cannot place an order till tomorrow in the UK ! was a little disappointed with 287bhp/ton and the 14.5 seconds to 124mph figure and PASM shocks plus buckets are not standard !! So it still is a £80k car really in a very nice spec and that's without PCCB !!! Not as cheap as it 1st looks imo. and not quite as fast either.ORIGINAL: Chris_in_the_UK So come on then!! Who's in?

If it was time for me to change I would up for it in a breath!. The more telling will be the feel over the ground, which will be v quick methinks. The German site is showing 2800 Euro's for the buckets. No extra cost to spec. 64 litre fuel tank. PASM looks to be standard? Oh, 821 Euro's for Rhodium Silver [][]
