Christmas cruise 30/12/08

Guys & Girls, a big thank you for a great turnout today [:)]
It was a great selection of cars and I hope you all enjoyed the route.

Many thanks to those putting pictures up for us to view, I had the reverse of Helens... that of looking in my mirrors and seeing the headlights far into the distance, just that I didn't have Jo to take the picture itself [] Those without radios will not of heard the conversation that the two young boys were having on their radios (on the same channel as us) and when they spotted us behind them... shouting at their Dad to pull over so the Porsches could pass them [:)]

It was great that the Sunshine did make an appearance today and let the region be viewed at its best, it also allowed hopefuly everyone to really appreciate how lucky we are to have these cars and enjoy the roads. Hard to think that those types of roads are still about to enjoy even with all the anti car lobby etc

Additonal thanks to Peter and Lesley for holding the fort at the rear in their Cayenne, which proved itself more than easily and helps me try and keep the group heading in the right direction (for the majority of the time[;)] )

A special welcome and Thank you to the newbies that came out to put up with us for the first time - cheers for that [:)] we hope you enjoyed it too.

I hope you enjoyed the drop in to Chris's place, last minute but worthwhile if your thinking about getting your car looked at in any suspension way... not too mention the teas, coffee and biscuits.

PS to the guy in the Silver VW coming the other way flashing his headlights in Sheepy [;)] (hope you enjoyed the Italian and your cars all good)

Just a couple to whet the appetite for now!!

The rest are all in this album here on webshots:

Enjoy.

Gary
Thanks for organising such an enjoyable drive today, it was an impressive sight being rear gunner for a dozen or so 911s (and Helen's 356).
Mottle, glad you're ok, we noticed we'd lost you early on!!

The KN may not be to everyone's taste but it sure does go, corner and brake well for a 2 tonne lump (especially with the Sport button pressed for the day). Also thanks to the guys with Gen 2s with pdk for confirming that I've ticked the right box for when the new one comes.

Here's one of the team who survived the day

and the interloper...

Thanks Gary and all for today, as a newbie it was good to meet up with many of you. I'll remember today mostly from seeing a Cayenne being driven very hard, very impressive!

Well, I'm looking forward to giving the car a serious clean tomorrow morning, shocking state [:)]

Cheers,
Simon

Welcome to the forum Simon, glad you enjoyed the day and took part in the spirit of the day [:D]

Nige and Peter, great pictures [8D]
I always seem to forget to take them for some reason [:(][:(] I did take two early on before the second line of Porsches arrived, but not to the standard shown

I popped round to see Rob on my way home, who seemed most miffed to of missed the event, the good news is that his car is safely at the OPC awaiting some tlc

Hi Gary. Thanks for a really brilliant day. [:)] The route was awesome allowing us to safely[!] enjoy our cars to their best.I valued the 2-way radio up to the point where, having received the all clear from you as we shot down one of those wicked dips to pass the horse trailer, I spotted that big red van coming towards me-whoops! Thanks for all the time you must have spent on your recce to produce such an interesting route- I've just been looking on the detailed map to see where you took us. I got nearly 24 mpg overal today for 240 miles which is great compaired to my recent RS4 which would have done about 18 mpg and always felt slow compared to the Turbo. Thanks to all you Guys and Girls who attended to make the event so much fun.See you all next year -have a good one! Regards Mike Allen. 997TT cobalt blue.

As a newcomer to the forum and todays ride out, just a brief thanks to Gary and all who helped to organise the event.Whilst we had to drop out just after half way due to time restrictions we thoroughly enjoyed the drive and look forward to attending any similar events in the future.

Mike and Marc Neale

Jan & Rachael,

Thanks for the photos and great to meet up with you guys too!!

And by the way, where are my shots of my Targa 4S following you???

I have got plenty of video clips of your fantastic GT3, but the audio is as bad as we thought, think the mike on the POV is faulty, I will try to get it sorted!!

Thanks again for a great day.

Nige.

As always Gary you put together an excellent cruise today, sorry for heading off down the dual carraigeway and splitting the group but quickly sorted by Peter and Lesley.
Thanks to all for a splendid day and the great photos posted. Nige am looking forward to seeing anything you put together from your targa cam.

Happy New Year to all.

Paul

Hi Paul,

Thanks for great day in convoy with you and the other guys.

I am working on the videos, but as I said earlier I think I now have a microphone fault which is why the audio is so bad.

I will see what I can do to fix it.

Nige.

Guys,

Here is the link to one of the on board videos from today.

Targa On Board Christmas Cruise

I have uploaded the full file, but I am sorry to say that the audio is still really poor, its obviously a fault with the microphone.

I hope I can get it sorted soon.

Nige.

I think we need to copyright the term "Targa Cam" [:D]

loving the footage and images Nige

garyw

Gary,

Agreed - Targa Cam it is then!! [:D]

Lets hope that I get the Mike fault sorted on it before the next outing.

I am going to post the external POV Videos from the Targa Cam next!!

Hope they come out OK!!

Nige.

Looks like you had a great day guys - sorry I couldn't be there...it looks like you could have done with a red car!

Nigel, think you need to fix the cam the other way round next time, would have been far better to see how an old 968 Sport was keeping up with you (except when you overtook that trailor uphill and I'd left it in at least one gear too high to keep up!!).

With all the previous weather forecasts, I'm glad to say I only felt the rear end slide once all day and that was the second roundabout after the Donington Services, adjusted the right foot to suit after that....

Guys, I'm glad you enjoyed yesterday, and thanks to the new guys for coming along I hope you see what a good thing we've got going on in the club. Sincere thanks to Gary who's now and expert in routing and running these things !

I'm extremely disappointed I couldn't join you myself, so I thought I'd share my photos and memories in the worlds most unreliable 997...

The start of things to come, M42 j4... A call to Porsche Assist at 9:49am.. I have a rear flat, and additionally the oil temp guage stops working, as does the oil pressure sensor ? I can't remember now as there were so many alerts on the display.

Image033.jpg

Where is that damn compressor ?

Image032.jpg

The compressor stopped working within seconds. This is because it blew the fuse on the accessory socket. I changed it to the cigarette lighter socket, which got me another 30 seconds before that fuse blew. I changed them with the spares and decided to abandon the bloody compressor at that point ! The air was coming straight-out anyway.

2 hours later and I'm still there, extremely cold and irritated with the bloody car ! Shall I just leave it here...?

Image031.jpg

At 12:15, about 2 and a half hours after I rang them, I'm finally collected...

Image015.jpg

It's still at Porsche Solihull where I've abandonned it in disgust. They're replacing the tyre, fixing the faults (I had plenty of time to read the warranty booklet again and check those things are covered, which they are thankfully) and then replacing my black wheels with my silver ones again as I've decided I don't like the black ones now !

I shall return to collect it next year when I'm no longer in such a **** mood with it !

Wishing you all a very happy and reliable new year !

Brilliant Day Gary - you even organised brilliant weather[8D] Thank you for organised the day, the route certainly covered most aspects of roads and must have taken some time to put together.

The two way radio '2 kids' was also well organised, but when they asked if you were the Stig, I think that went a bit too far![:D]

Pictures & Targa Cam are excellent Nige. Where did you get the bullet cam from etc?

Tom & I look forward to the next event, and wish all a Healthy & Prosperous New Year
