this is the embarrassing part

Showing page 3 of 3 - Powered by APG vNext Trial

really trial software in the public domain

Martin,

it is not a trail version of the software, it is a trial license which is already in the process of being upgraded.

The upgrade of the license could take several days as it is all done via email but does not affect the functionality of the software.

Nick

not meaning to be picky, but should that not have been sorted before the upgrade...

If I did that in my job my boss would kick my ass big time

You are being picky [;)] but as you ask we paid before the deployment but it takes a while before we get the key.

Could we have paid earlier, probably but then we would be paying for something not in use, and that would be wasting club money.

I am maybe being stupid but how do I access my private messages?
You need to go to the forum tab on the toolbar at the top, "my forum settings" is the last one on the list. PMs are within that. [:)]

The worrying thing is when I first logged in I had a PM from Ed (my wife) who had logged in before I had ...... is there nowhere to hide these days ?

My feedback would be:

The lack of ability to view 'Posts Since Last Visit' is the biggest negative for me. It is a feature I use on every other forum I use and was the way I viewed the previous version of this forum. If you have to drop one to put that in then drop the 'Unread Posts' from the menu as it is not useful. I know I rarely read most posts as I would skim down the list of threads since my last visit to see what I want to look at and then look at them. Unread posts shows me loads of threads I will never look at every time I come on. As 'Posts Since Last Visit' was in the old version of the forum software is it not simple to turn it on in the upgraded version?

Other than that nothing worth getting uptight about for me. The over generaous spacing when viewing on a large screen negates some of the advantages of the large screen (using iMac with large screen here) but on an iPad it is much closer spaced and seems to work well. It seems to particularly effect the spacing between paragraphs.

Big plus in the latest release as a Register Secretary is the ability for members to maintain their cars online and this will help us in the medium and long term to have much higher quality register lists. The ability to subscribe to multiple registers and regions for email updates is also a nice feature.

Ian.

Found another couple of "interesting" points :

Went to "My Forum Settings" as instructed above, my PM Inbox showed 4/20 whereas my sent folder showed 7/200 - so it seems the PM storage is now 200 sent but only 20 received.

Then went to Subscriptions - the subscribed forums was fine, but the subscribed threads showed 15 pages at 20 threads per page - looks like the subscription has been added for any thread I posted on since day 1! Luckily I quickly found the "select all on this page" tickbox at the top left so it didn't take too long to "unsubscribe" from 299 threads!

I'll take the opportunity to agree with Ian McLeod above - the "posts since last visit" was always my first port of call on the old system, and is my first port of call on my 3 other car related forums. Unread posts just gives 15 pages of stuff I will never look at - luckily any new posts appear at the top of page 1! Bring back "Posts Since Last Visit"!!!

Interesting indeed. I have 12/20 received messages, but 1/500 sent!

This is just tweaking the settings in the admin site, but it indicates that different user groups have different settings so might need checking.

I completely agree about the "posts since last visit" comments. It just worked better than either "today's posts" or "unread posts". I think the huge number of people not finding this site before the email went out points to just how many forum users had that as their landing page?

Here's something I've noticed which may help:

In the Unread Posts link - the new ones since you last logged in are in Bold - when the bold ones stop you have done all the "posts since last visit".

I agree about the spacing, but you should have seen it before we asked for it to be spaced closer !

Im viewing this on a 26" widescreen display and it needs to be twice as large for it to be able to display a useful amount of information.

Far, far too much wasted screen area - the spacing needs looking at carefully.

Even funnier - click on "Unread Posts" then scroll down to the bottom of the page where you'll see a Search facility with a "Latest Posts" button!!

So perhaps we can add this to the drop-down?

I think there is room for both Latest and Unread in my life [:)]

And @Mark_Bennett, it would appear emoticons no longer come up in signatures or they are called sm1 now not spanner1.gif [Jeremy Clarkson Smug Smile]

Happy days.

I am also glad to see that the majority of new forum talk is in the 944 area (the back bone of the forum). [:)]

a question....I've just been exploring my profile and forum a little to get a better understanding of what's what and note that it has me as R21 Chiltern region????? not sure where that came from, ?I'm most certainly in London area and was always R20 in the past?

No idea, but the great thing is that you can now correct this yourself [:)]

No Mark you cannot correct your 'Home Region' yourself. You can only 'Subscribe' to additional Regions.

To change your 'Home Region' requires someone at CH or a Website Admin (not forum) to do this for you.

In this case for Peter aka PSH I have fixed this for you.

btw Peter welcome back to London [:)]

Thanks Nick...much appreciated..didn't see your car Monday night or perhaps you were in another or just couldn't make it?...i enjoyed the evening, met some new people and said hi to an old one...I shall go again soon...:)

cheers

Pete
