Space is a funny thing and having things too cramped can make them less clear than too spread out.
During trials, and even this week, aspects of excessive space have been addressed. I rather like it now.
I agree John, and a lot depends upon the device being used to view the page. Everything looks good to me on both my laptop [Firefox] and iPad2.
Nothing's ever perfect but well done to everyone who's been involved in the update and many thanks for all your efforts.

This is not acceptable in my opinion and I have emailed support.

I agree with Ian about the space taken below avatars. Look at all the space that could be saved by removing the area that I circled in red on this screenshot.
Doubling the size of characters in posts would probably have a filling effect instead of making all the rest smaller?
I agree that should not be there. At least we should make it optional.Ian_McLeod said:Something I do feel strongly about though is showing people's date of birth when you click on their avatar and it takes you to their details. Some people show na, some show month and day and some show full date of birth including year. I thought it was just my profile it affected but I have found others by clicking on random users on the forum.
This is not acceptable in my opinion and I have emailed support.
Richard_Hamilton said:I agree with Ian - can we make DoB and Gender non-compulsory in our profile info? And can we please have the ability to email via the forum like we used to?
I understand that unfortunately the ability to email via the forum was removed by the authors some versions ago. I don't know why.
We have upgraded from a version that was many years and versions out of date. Some features have changed, some are better (such as the search options) and some have gone (such as email). You should still get a notification by email when a Private Message is sent to you.

I can see full DoB for lots of people including other ROs and RSs, administrators and quite a few members so I don't think there is a specific pattern. It seems random as to who shows n/a, just month and year or full DoB. I am guessing this may be due to inconsistences on the membership database from old.
The website is a brilliant mechanism for keeping our details up to date, such a step forward. But some attention should be given as to how much of that information is publicly visible as a result. We want members to feel comfortable sharing details with us. As an example being an RS, I want members to feel happy to share car details with us including VIN numbers as it helps us maintain knowledge of these cars but they will only do it if they feel that we are treating the information in a secure manner.
Ian.

We've had a long term issue with the PM system in that people's inboxes get filled up.
Is there any reason not to raise the limit from 20 to, say, 50? The messages are very small so it won't have a significant impact on storage but would help users who get a lot of messages, or lazy people like me who forget to delete them.

I've upped it to 50 - let's see how that goes?

Well, we could use the shiny new feature that allows us to merge threads - but that would mean moving this one out of the 944 area to the "Help with the forum" area (where it really ought to be...)
The thing is, do I risk incurring the wrath of 944 owners [], or shall we allow a 944 Admin or Mod to do it? []

I think best leave it where it is as, otherwise, someone will only start another one. Some don't venture out of the comfort of their own area of the forum

Mark/John,
I take your points chaps. However there are basically two identical - and very active - threads....both on the 944 forum.!

I've merged the 2 threads in the 944 forum. (Well, I had to try it didn't I? [])
To be honest, this functionality should be really useful to the Moderators as we go forward - we always had loads of duplicate threads and merging them was not possible in the past. It'll mean a much cleaner forum with (hopefully) easier to find info.

Puts tin hat on, awaits the wrath of someone who wants separate threads and is really offended at the temerity of someone merging them...
