Just in case any of those were PTS considerations for you… I’d expect 12+ months if you were ordering now.

Those are some nice cars! Sadly all of them have (in my opinion) the dreaded "black interior" option. I'll have a chat with some OPCs, but seems like 12+ months is still the norm (not that bad, gives me some time to get my finances in order). The 'dream spec' at the moment would be in forest green metallic with a brown roof, some sort of brown interior, manual and PCCB. I've not seen anything like it (in particular, very few cars at all with non-black interiors - do people really like black interiors that much?)

I await the criticism!! [:)]

SJPS - I’m with you on ‘non-black’ - we’ve specced black / crayon two tone leather interior on our BGTS Order.

Deposit placed a year ago so based on recent posts above, feeling positive we might get a build slot this year.

I saw a car with that interior once, looked great! Hope you get a build slot soon.

By the sounds of it, I better hurry up if I want to actually get any new 718 ...

I do wonder though, if quite a few people who have waited 18 months have just moved on to other marques or interests and we will start to see more cancellations.

I was offered an unregistered ice grey BGTS late December but wanted the GTS interior not the crayon leather.

 
Could well be the fact that Porsche have now set their PCP APR rate to 10.9%. That's more than 4% higher than I have on mine when I took it out almost a year ago!

I'm not surprised people are throwing them in. Also, the 718 EV is not far away, so too is the Macan EV plus the 992.2 is ready and waiting in the wings. Who in their right mind would want a car that will be replaced in 6 months when they can order the latest and greatest? Unless you want a Porsche ICE of course.

My local OPC has stopped taking orders, unsure if that is down to their allocation being full ?

Well I hope the wait has reduced a bit. I ordered my Shark Blue (although that colour didn't exist at the time) Boxster GTS 4.0 nearly 20 months ago... It's finally built, nearly at the dealer, and I pick it up in a week. Hooray!

I sold my 981 Cayman S shortly after ordering, not expecting for a moment it to take 20 months. When I ordered I was told it would be about 9 months (spring 2022) and I figured I could live without the Cayman over winter 21/22. When I realised how long I'd be waiting I bought a 944 S2 last summer for a bit of fun. Will be out at the R19 meet this Sunday in that.

I'll post some pics, when I get a chance, but in the mean time what are folks thoughts on running in for the 4l engine? Please feel free to point me at posts I've been too lazy to look for. Found something on pistonheads which suggested:

up to 300......5000rpms up to 420......5500rpm up to 540......6000rpm up to 660......6500rpm up to 780......7000rpm up to 900......7500rpm Redline after about 1000 miles.

Not just about the numbers but `how` you use them ... managing the load on the engine - drivetrain What does the Owners Manual say ?

 
Well, you don't get a paper manual any more. Surprised it's not an option at an extra £350 :)

You get an app. I tried searching for "running in" on the app. Nada.

This is from the Spyder manual (same engine with higher max rpm):

"In a new vehicle, the moving parts first have to be run in with each other. The first 3,000 km (1,865 miles) are required for this. The oil and fuel consumption may be somewhat higher than normal during this time.

Drive as follows during the running-in period: Preferably take longer trips. If possible, avoid frequent cold starts with short distances. Do not participate in motor racing events, sports driving schools, or similar. e Avoid high speeds of over 4,000 revolutions per minute. Drive at low speeds when the engine is cold."

That data from the pistonheads thread I posted is allegedly from Andreas Preuninger who is one of the GT department engineers who specified that list for the Cayman GT4 (same engine again).

I'm guessing not many folk really do limit themselves to 4K for 1,800 miles as per the Spyder manual. Again according to the pistonheads thread, many buyers have been advised there is no need to run in at all by the dealer. Thus me asking..

I do take your point on "how you use them". Other than on the motorway or in stop-start traffic I almost always drove my old Cayman in manual mode, and I'll do the same with the Boxster to avoid constantly being in a very high gear when cruising whilst running in.

 
It clearly states 1865 miles (3000 kilometres) before any spirited driving in the book.

I asked the question to the dealer that provided my 4.0L and was told not to worry about it and just make sure it’s fully warmed up before doing any launch controlled starts or aggressive driving. Being very sceptical, I asked for an email to support what they said, which they gave me happily.

 
I'm not sure it really makes sense to limit yourself to 4K rpm and then as the odometer clicks over to 1865 miles start immediately bouncing it off the limiter :) - A gradual ramp makes more sense to me. I last bought a brand new car 20 years ago, and I'm planning on keeping this car for a good while all being well, so I will certainly be a little careful.
