New Year/Winter Gathering 31st Jan

Right then 31st Jan , Rutland Water at High Noon it is. A couple of pics and a recce of the Pub would be much appreciated. [:)]

Ludlow? you mean, you've been down south!? lol I might get up to Rutland myself soon, so will have a look if no one else gets to it first. Anyone fancy meeting up in northants area on 31/1?

Andy, If you get to Rutland first, theres a lagre pub on the south shore near the dam end as well that I'd forgotten about. Mike

Could this thread please either be stickied (for now) or some reference to the gathering put into the "forthcoming events" section so it remains on folks radar. Ta. [:)]

Just added it to my diary too. I'm training for next year's London Marathon, so it might also give me the chance to run in some new surroundings. Anyone else up for a run?

I'll be there for the good company and beautiful cars no matter what but I'm going to try REALLY try to turn up in a Porsche this year! Even if its the wrong one. I'm working on it as we speak.

Good idea Jon

Went over and there are a few possiblities. 1 Whitwell Creek - by the water and the lake cruise base, basic cafe catering for the day tripppers, prices not too bad considering its a tourist trap good sized carpark but £2 a day (includes all the other parking areas around the lake). Wasn't open when I went and used to have funny opening hours so will need to check but weekends shold be ok.. 2 Noel Arms also shut when I went - smallish pub with parking in village of Whitwell does pub food, couldnt get menu 3 Normanton Hall Hotel - overlooking lake and nice but sandwich chips and garnish £8 4 Barnsdale Lodge Hotel - my 1st thought, but having met several of the group doesnot have right atmosphere (it used to have!) on main road, posh burger and chips £12 There are a couple of carparks (£2 a day) with burger grills but no indoor seating. For the energetic there is a cycle track - 20ish miles! Mike

ORIGINAL: billus99 well done Mike - not made it up there yet, myself. I would have thought the cafe option sounds the best? Andy
That would be my choice too - just need to make sure they are open on the 31st. I used to windsurf there a lot and it could be a bit hit an' miss! Mike

Whitwell Creek cafe sounds good to me too. I went there once about 10 years ago and hired a tandem to cycle round the lake with my wife. 10 minutes of high pitched screaming was enough and we turned around :ROFLMAO:
