Novice Track Evening Brands is Back 20th May!

ORIGINAL: jon grindall Well done Surinder. I have to confess I haven't sorted out my insurance yet. Can you recommend? Incidentally, went to Brands on Wednesday to get a noise test - a bit worried about the new sports exhaust - but came in at 101dB at just over 5krpm, and was told by the tester that was OK. So if that worry is holding anyone back, don't let it. Go for the chequebook now! Jon

I went to Brands this weekend to watch the A1GP and was studying all the corners intently, Paddock Hill looks tricky! I read on an earlier thread we can get instruction on the day. Do we need to book someone in advance or will there be people based in the pits to help?

I was talking to a couple of guys at Silverstone yesterday with a splendid-looking black 968 Cab who had come off into the gravel at Brands. They were telling me of all the damage it did. Gulp!

Des, do you know if the track instructors will be still staying around for the novice session? If available, get the instructor with you as early as possible; 2 hours is not a long time, so don't leave it to the end. It is going to be the best £20-30(?) you will spend on the day but do get out and try the track without the worry of ending up in the gravel (I assume it is the Paddock Hill Bend everyone talks about as it comes up after a long high speed Brabham Straight); given it will be all novice, you will be unlikely to be under pressure by others to over do it and I guarantee you will be doing up to 20-30mph more before braking for bends after the instructor has been out with you and more importantly you will enjoy your track time rather than worry about if you are at the right speed for bends...

ORIGINAL: sspunny Back to helmets, will there be enough available to rent?
The PCGB Motorsports website states: Crash helmet - Must be worn at all times when a driver or passenger is on the track. These do not need to be to the latest racing standard (although this is advisable, as they can then be used for racing if you decide that is your next step), but they must be in good condition. The Club will always have a number of helmets available for 'loan', but there may not be sufficient to go around. Therefore, if you have your own, bring it with you. If you haven't visited the site then worth doing so as there is plenty of other info useful for the day: [link=http://www.porscheclubmotorsport.co.uk/content/trackdays/trackdayprep.asp]http://www.porscheclubmotorsport.co.uk/content/trackdays/trackdayprep.asp[/link] About if there will be 'enough available to rent', best to call the club house and ask to speak to Steve Kevlin on 01608 652 917 (got the number from Porsche Post for trackday booking). All the information is available from links already posted and IF in doubt pick the phone up to Steve and or his colleague!!! Tuition is it's abundance AGAIN book it now .... Melvin has been offering sighting laps in his Cup Car for free for several weeks and posted here but hardly anyone has taken advantage of this FREE kind offer. In all my years Helmets have always been available, BUT AGAIN you can book one. I will be there on the night ....... Steve Kevlin has everything in hand he is a very helpful bloke and his Motorsprt Team are there to help and answer any queries. I would suggest BOOK your professional tuition now and try and make it your first session. Remember manage your two hours well 20 mins on and 20 off although with tuition you should be in ANY group as you are paying. Remember Motorsport is Dangerous and you must heed all advice, any bend is a potential spin or off, the straights are easy ... Paddock Hill is a big sweeping right hander into a dip, your briefing will cover the circuit and braking points etc. Have a good one ...........

I'll be seeing Melvin at the weekend, but I'd certainly like to have a loop round or two to give me an idea of line, gears, breaking points, etc.

ORIGINAL: carreraboy Won't get that with Melvin he is useless ..........[;)]
Yes, mimicking his breaking points will be useless [:)] he scarily knows where exactly his cup car needs to brake and where a F1 cars brakes on the same track...[8|]

Seriously though it is very very very worthwhile taking up the offer particulalry when you are in a rest session .... he will be in the end garage near the control tower ...[:)]

Might be a silly question but how do I pre-book tuition ? I assumed I'd have to book it on the day - same with the Cup car pax ride. Cheers.
