Reading drive: next run

Again, from Heather and I, a big thanks to Alex, the weather and all that attended - a great day out! Lawrence

I am very glad everyone seemed to have a good time [:)] I was paranoid about leading everyone too slowly given the heroic job Gary always does at the front. Great photos Gary by the way! I am getting the usual withdrawal symptoms today, so if the weather holds I may have to pop out for a few hours and do that morning route again!! That's the advantage of having that route right on your doorstep [:D]

Alex Great day out, excellent organization and fantastic food and good company. Roads were great and some fab countryside and villages. I know how Gary got ahead of all of you - answer provided to those who offer large bribes[8D]

Thinking of re-running this day, one weekend day over the next 2 weekends (probably this weekend though) I am definitely free this coming Sat/Sun (19/20-Sep) and the weather report for this Sat is currently favourable. Anyone want to join me? I can book OPC Reading and the lunch venue once I know date and numbers.

Cool. I have provisionally booked the Leatherne Bottle and OPC Reading for this Sat. Same start time as before (1030).

I think Jon is probably in. I have PM'ed a few other that came last time too... If anyone is thinking about joining us then go back a page on this thread to see some of the pics taken from the drive last time. [link=http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/fb.asp?m=460272]http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/fb.asp?m=460272[/link] Lunch for the set menu I think is Ă‚ÂŁ25 per head on a Sat but it's REALLY good food! All the partners last time seem to really enjoy themselves as much as the drivers did.

Finally acquired a set of walkie talkies........ Can you resend route in advance, so we can make an attempt at plugging in satnav.

Well done Tom, you'll never know how you managed without them.... Mind you it does mean we won't be able to talk about you on them now [;)]:ROFLMAO: garyw

Route sent to you Tom. I just ordered a hands free kit for my walkie talkies. This way I won't have to fumble around for the handset when a tractor appears suddenly! Weather for Sat looking good! 22degC and sunny [:)] Leatherne Bottel lunch venue is looking busy all weekend. They have a few 'couples' tables left inside (lots free outside) so if it's a bit cold then I may take us to a different lunch location which is just down the road... White Lion: http://www.thewhitelioncrayspond.com/Home.html Anyone else want to join us?

Alex Don't set your hands free kit to VOX... okay its great that you can just talk but we've had some hilarious comments been heard[:D] Even to one time when a certain driver was huffing as he hit an uneven road surface and it came over the airwaves!!:ROFLMAO: garyw

Hi Alex, I have been in Frankfurt since Wednesday. Just got back and catching up on mail. I'm entered in the local motor club sprint at Chivenor tomorrow, so will be unable to make this run. However, the weather looks set fair so I hope you have a good run. See you in 2 weeks in Devon! Regards, Clive

Had a great run today, albeit one with lots of traffic to power passed... Started at OPC Reading with Claus (dealership principal) offering to take all 3 of us for a ride in a new Panamera. Sadly though by the time the car got back from a test drive we were leaving. We were promised a go next time though. [Apologies for the crappy iPhone pics - I forgot the memory card for my camera [&:]]

We then headed north west and found some deserted but bumpy back roads. Good pace was made until out lunch stop at the Leatherne Bottel where we were spoilt by fantastic food and sunshine whilst we sat on the decking looking out over the river.

Next we headed north east and after a quick pitstop at a Shell garage we found the A40 Aston Hill pass. Here Tom and Jon were terrorized by a local in a new GT-R going up the hill. I was sitting at the top of the hill already having zoomed up first but apparently it gave the guys quite a shock with it appearing out of nowhere! We finished our drive just outside Henley at the George & Dragon pub.

A great day had by all! Thanks to Tom and Jon for tagging along [:)]

Alex & Tom Brilliant day out, good meal and very eventful journey back involving me and an ambulance![][][X(][:(][:'(] Home safe now, pm'd you both with details thanks again, and we'll have to go back to find that GTR and show him our heels next time[:D]
