What a lovely evening, really enjoyed it,seeing all the transaxle cars in their various guises,Mr Follets race car looks particularly awsome at speed,as did Peter's superlight-you can see the way it rides the corners is more race than road!,very cool.Really enjoyed the food and chat after too.Drive home was a bit hairy with all the water not inspiring confidence with my slightly melted and antique Pzero cs.Thanks Tony for sorting my tyre pressures, lovely to put some more faces to names you read on here,Hope everyone got home ok.Would love to do it again, love those pics- any more??

Yes good fun! thanks for the passenger laps Mark - that car is lovely. Nice to see people old and new and another good pub. Could only have been better if I had driven ;) must try and get on a later day.
Tony

That was good fun, especially being on track when the first round small H2O thingies appeared on the windscreen, after the dire warnings we've been given in the briefing[:-]

Thanks to everyone who took pics, and thanks to Malcolm for taking me round and showing me how to do the corners heaps better than I was managing. Apologies if I've held anyone up..

Next modification for the car has to be an Exige sensing device, that warns you when they're overtaking on the inside/outside/underneath radio-controlled car style, in a corner. Had I missed one of their attempts, I'd probably have flat-packed a Lotus, even in my "lightweight" 924..

That was great fun. Good to meet some new faces, sorry to miss you Malc, you were parked too far away from us all!

I had a ride in Peter's and Mark's. Two totally different cars, it was amazing to see how well they run in standard form, albeit on tired tyre, and in fully stripped-out and fiddled-with spec. And good to see how well-driven all the cars were compared to some of the other stuff out there, particularly a couple of Luton's finest. [:'(]

Thanks to everyone for the company, a good evening out for about £5 in the pub and £25 in petrol. Perhaps I should ask "what did I get for my £30?" and then moan a lot! :ROFLMAO:

A great evening at Silverstone-very sorry to miss Beer and food -will have to get a longer pass next time.
James- really good pictures.
Nice to meet some new faces and cars.
Paul if you PM me when you are going to Thames Valley I will meet up if possible.
Cheers everyone and thanks for a very enjoyable evening.
Ron

You need to host them somewhere else (like Photobucket) and then insert the link (use the yellow icon at the end of the toolbar)

Eek!
Thankfully I didn't have too much trouble from traffic, there was a GT3 that drove like a bit of a plonker - he may have been quicker on the straights but was slower over a lap and I don't think he could handle that. There was a Lexus who was all over my bumper when in traffic (what's the point) and whilst it had a lot of poke down the straights I could pull several car lengths through the faster corners but that didn't stop him trying to force past when there was traffic in front. The Astra cab with the ring sticker was highly amusing too [;)]

My favourite moments were following the lovely old jag drifting everywhere, and Darrens 944T which was lapping at a similar rate to me and looked mighty lively at the rear leaving black tyre marks out of most corners :ROFLMAO:

Sadly I didn't manage to catch much on my camera apart from my very long session, I'll have a look tonight and see if there's anything good on it (I think I may have caught another 944 having an off track excursion [;)] but I nearly did the same a few laps later on :ROFLMAO:).

I had a great time, and thanks for organising the discount Peter, I didn't spot the cheaper price until yesterday afternoon just before I left the house - mentioned your name to Melindi & she gave me a tenner back [:D]

Met plenty of people, had a good chat with Mark K, Ed, Tam & plenty of others & got some good advice & tips. I spent a lot of time out on track in my own car & didn't grab any passenger laps myself but Tam & I had some fun as my confidence in the tyres grew until I overcooked it in the complex near the end & put the back of the car into the gravel [8D]

Peter, you were the first car to pass so it might have been my off you saw if it was towards the end. Tam was in the passenger seat & we'd been having a bit of a play with the rear end to find the limit (found it[;)]). One of the things he mentioned which I thought was interesting was that I was hanging onto & recovering from much larger angles of slide in my (LSD equipped) car than he thought he'd be able to in his (open diff) 3lt 924. My car's done ~174k miles & could do with a gearbox oil change (fill bolt is rounded off so not straightforward) but he thought the LSD still made a positive difference - even a really old & work out one was better than none at all.

I've not liked the Toyo T1-R's I have on the car on the road, they feel too soggy like they don't have enough air in them compared to my old (N-rated) Michelin Pilot sports but they seemed to come alive on the track. Still felt a bit squishy but once they were warmed up they had loads more grip than I was expecting & never gave any signs of overheating (started at 30psi cold, ended up using 35psi hot compared to 34psi cold for the road) and were very predictable. Feathered the NSF a bit, still okay though.

Shame I didn't get the chance to chat to a few more people but I was too busy driving [;)] By the time I'd got my CD of pics at the end of the day you'd all buggered off & I had a fair way to go so I just went home. Thanks to Mike (Paul F's Mechanic) for checking my pads when the pad wear light came on. I knew the fronts were near the limit but not how near.

Cheers chaps, see you all next time probably [;)]

Hey I am back in the PCGB, I finally renewed my membership and feeling good about some more trackdays after yesterday evening. The lux just seems to love being driven hard but is woefully low on power. i will start a new thread soon about the 3.9 range rover engine i will be fitting - its going to be a nightmare The engine loom/ecu is now sat in my workshop goading me into the conversion so must be done.

Hey Mike, Thanks for babysitting my security device while in the pub, it was good to meet you yesterday. If you have any more pics of my car please send them to simon@sarclassics.com I have one of the fuel rails you need as well so call if interested 01438 833605

Hi Malc,
That was good of Melindi and a bit of a result!
You only know you're trying hard when you find the grass [:D] When we were following Darren you could see the benefit of his LSD, if I'd driven the same way I'm sure I'd have been off. Whilst I love my 888's I find they do encourage a rather brutal driving style and they have so much grip you can get away with some fairly rough and ready driving which I demonstrated on my first session out (sorry Ed [;)]). At one stage I caught the curb on the left whilst braking through Maggotts and nearly had a big one, think we'd still be spinning if it'd let go [:)]

For me the best thing of the day was getting some confidence back about my brakes and was one of the reasons I stayed out so long, the pedal is still softer than I prefer (only thing left to do is a caliper refurb) but I know I'm braking far too early and too gently, I started to push on later and even as hard as I dared I wasn't locking up or fading. Think I need to get an instructor next time to get me smoother and later.

I really need to sort out my gearbox and linkage, it dropped out of gear a couple of times under braking again, once into Copse and I was struggling to get any gears the hairpin before Club, I do wonder if my soft gearbox mount is allowing too much movement under this heavy braking, thankfully I have the bits to sort this out next time.

Good of you to join us again Simon (you may want to edit your post to remove web and email, the rules have changed since you were here last).

I forgot to apologise Malc, the end of the day was rather chaotic, next time I propose we have a quick photo shoot on the pit lane like we used to and then head off in convoy. As we changed venue at the last minute not many of us knew where we were going so it was a bit of a mad dash.

Exciting,
A friend of mine is an auto electrician and is landrover trained so if you get stuck he might be able to help. Apart from lots of time with the standard stuff, he has done a tvr (rover) engined rangey on gas, a swb 90 with RR running gear, a marcos on standalone with a 3.9

I really enjoyed it Peter - no need to apologise [:D] Your car has a lovely balance & loads of grip - we were marginally faster than Darren's car, which must have 50% more power. Just shows what weight reduction can do! It was a huge contrasts stepping into MarkK's car afterwards - an (almost) stock 250T, calm, quiet and still very capable on the track.
