The £45k LHD 64RS

ORIGINAL: carreraboy

Use it or lose it Lee![;)]

Lost me again Des.

Anyway I do use it...............Infact I have used it this very morning, The car feels so compact after getting out of the 7

Suprised you don't use it more Lee, it's not as if the difference in a few £K on re-sale, if you were ever to part with it would change your world.[;)]

Des, Vic and myself were at Snetterton earlier in the week with our colourful aircooled leichtbau trio [:D]
It really was an exceptional day, the kind of enjoyment and satisfaction of ownership that cannot be experienced by garaging and road use [:)]

Jason

I think you are missing the point.

No I'm not....I'm just encouraging you all to use your cars as much as possible and if it works with one person then I have my own little victory[;)]

Besides what you are saying is complete ozzy rubbish....some changes are allowed under the 'still in escence original' banner some are not???......cage/strut/steering wheel Yes, motec or suspension No. What codswallop - are there 'still original' classifications now, where do I get these details from[;)][;)][:D]

If my car had high mileage and had sustained a sausage at some point their is no doubt I'd be using it and tracking it more often.

I don't know what you are implying mate[;)][;)][:D]

Love your orange beastie Lee - you managed to get it on track yet? Does it feel bigger and heavier than the 64RS or still quite light and nimble?

Of coarse nothing implied to you misfortune.

Not had time to run it in yet let alone track it. It has great road presence. Totally drivable. Might go shopping in it tomorrow.[:D]

Car is awesome but doesn't feel light and nimble like the 64 obviously. Driving the 64 today felt strange initially....it feels so small but very light...on it's toes.

All,
After much prevarication and changes of mind I am now back on the LHD RS track and will be looking at this car tomorrow. 9M were kind enough to let me have a trundle in a LHD RS recently and I relised that I was worrying over nothing, hence the change of mind.

This sounds like a nice car but price is strong given that it has aftermkt wheels and a small amount of rust at the base of the n/s A pillar, may be due to a poorly refitted windscreen? Also has a scuff on the bumper.

What's the view of the group on price? btw the Yellow car sold for £36,500 (I know since I tried to buy it and missed out by 12 hours) and the Black car went for £37,000 I think.

Thanks to all (and I really am going to buy one this time!!!!),
Cheers,
Kevin.

Kevin did you have a look at/buy this car?

Ian,
Yes I looked at it and no I didn't buy it.

The buyer is pretty firm on price even given the aftermkt wheels.

Give me a call tomorrow on 07767 384 237 if you want my opinion on the car,
Cheers,
Kevin.

I went to see this car yesterday. It's good, but not £45K good. Went with someone who has a very nice LHD RSL, and drove that on the way over so I'd have a back-to-back comparison - the steering on the blue car felt heavier, presumably due to the 18" wheels (with 225s on the front). Other than that it drives well. Body work is very good, but a couple of rust spots - lower LH corner of the windscreen, and front of the RH B pillar behind the rubber (at the bottom widowline). Couple of small dents, and a scrape on the front PU, but paintwork/panels are original. Also has a full Porsche service history (currently using OPC Guildford).

If it wasn't for the wheels, I'd be tempted, but there are cars as good out there for less at the moment.

......... Also has a full Porsche service history (currently using OPC Guildford)......

Is there concensus on the value of a full Porsche service history?

I think the view is that a good service history is important (no suprise there) but it certainly doesn't have to be an OPC service history. OK, if there's Arthur Daly Motors in the srvice history it will hurt the price but I would much rather buy a car that has been serviced by a recognised specialist than by an OPC. IMO, a car that has been serviced by a specialist over, say, the last 5 years is preferable to one that has been serviced by an OPC over the same period.

Theres's a red one at £35k which looks better.

I was in Cambridge and took a look at the Potters Bar car --- not so good.

Body damage both sides in front of the rear wheels asif the car has been lifted at some time, brake ducts terminate in the back of the previously installed lights and are each hanging on by one screw, and the clutch is stiff --- though recent.

Magnesium wheels have a lot of corrosion under the paint .... etc.

A project ?

And there lies the problem faced by those buying cars atm. Based on the description above, the car is worth closer to £30k than £35k but the owner won't see that. There is never enough delta between a good car and a shabby one, so they don't really make a good project. Then cars stick on the market for ages, good ones sell for silly money as buyers get despairate and the owner of the shabby car sees the price rise, takes the car off the market for 2-3 months and hey presto, it reapears asking £3k more!

Crikey guys I wish you would stop talking up the price, you're making me nervous!

Seriously though, despite paying a full price for the car (see earlier post on this thread) I had no hesitation in taking for its first outing at Brands Hatch last week. Lee, John and others (thanks for your company, advice and px laps). No doubt you noticed a bright blue roadblock from time to time but I was happy, the Instuctor said "good corner speed" and the old girl never missed a beat.

Sitting in the garage at the end of the day proudly wearing its "Noise Passed" sticker the car looked none the worse for it all because, let's face it, that is what it was designed to do. And if having been on a track means someone wants to try to chip the price, it doesn't matter to me because I'm not selling.

As are most RSs I'd guess....they are replacements for the lights that's all...almost nobody has them actually driving air into the arches....and one screw holds them in place

Ur car looked gorgeous ,just luv that colour, and ur track etiquette was just fine .............................yellow indicator looked even better against that blue!

Nick.....You have no fear.

Great looking car and good to have met you, glad you enjoyed your first track day.

Use it....that's what I say [:)]

Mine do ! Had fun a couple of weeks ago trying to re-attach the hoses onto the back of the ducts (they are a push-fit with no jubilee clip to hold them on). It's easy enough on the nearside but on the offside you have to get round the oil cooler and fan - a fairly straightforward job for an orang utan but not so easy for me !
