The £45k LHD 64RS

Mine are done properly to cool the brakes. More expensive but whats the point if they are not actually functional?

Looks alone?

brake ducts terminate in the back of the previously installed lights and are each hanging on by one screw

As are most RSs I'd guess....they are replacements for the lights that's all...almost nobody has them actually driving air into the arches....and one screw holds them in place

I only know that mine do cool the brakes, --- I had never imagined that anybody would waste the lights to "cosmetically" not cool the brakes ?

On the other hand, I am missing the seat belt mechanism covers that were removed when the roll bar was fitted.

Anybody have a pair in black ?

Simon had a go at trying to find some last year (I wanted them for my old C2), but according to Porsche they are no longer available. Your best bet would be to try Southbound.

Thanks Jamie, will do.

For interest, the driving lights which the brake ducts replace, are not lights. They also are dummies !

There is an extra cost of around £500 in ducting through into the wheel arches, and even here, to be effective there should apparently be internal ducts within the wheel arches to make them really effective, these being replaced on a very regular basis.

...which is why I was under the impression not many people did it....

Chris,
I don't know what make my duct kit is or indeed who installed it, but the inlets in the bumper are really nice quality and well finished, then the hoses run through to the front of the wheel arch liners where they attach on a nice hard plastic outlet, there is then a deflector attached to the top of the A-arm which pushes the air towards the disc. It is all very nicely put together, but I'm not sure really how effective it is as the ducting doesn't go right up to the back of the discs (no use of block-off plate etc), so really the only time it will have much effect is when you are going absolutely straight ahead - when you turn the wheels effectively you are blowing cold air onto the tyres. Certainly it can't be doing any harm, and working in conjunction with the factory deflectors on the bottom of the A-arms it must be doing something, even if it is merely keeping cold air flowing through the wheel arch.

Jamie

Jamie, mine looks the same --- a very tidy installation.

I haven't checked for any deflectors on the suspension A arm.

Regarding the seatbelt reel trim --- Southbound don't have them but I have the part numbers to check the OPC network.

Good luck because OPC Guildford couldn't get them about 18 months ago.

Southbound don't have them but if you are ordering a full carpet set from them, they then seem to know somebody who can make copies!

Brake ducts......waste of time unless you are doing long distance racing. I have yet to see a Cup Car with ducts opened up. There is evidence that my car had them connected up at some point, but they are just for show at the moment!!

You just gotta learn to brake properly......[;)]

Just had my policy renewal through the door. It is a Classic policy and I have the agreed Value at £32,000.00.
I think I need to review this but can anyone give an accurate Valuation?
Is it worth £35 £40 or £45? Do I tell the Company what I think, or is it possible to get a written Valuation through the Club or RS register?
I got a letter from the insurers about 4 years ago stating that I was covered at the Nurbergring toll road but double the exess. I presume it still applies, should I ask?
Mine is one of last 50 made no accidents or rust, less than 80,000KM engine never been apart (over reved). The car is in as new condition inside and out also has new clutch, discs and shocks absolutly no money to spend. Sounds like I,m selling it but it is hard not to be enthusiastic about this wonderful car.

Ps I fitted my own brake ducts with ducting tubes purchased from motor factors at Silverstone circuit. The ducts are Ruf items whithout the screw holes and are very good quality. The near side one I was able to bolt on from the rear of the light cluster. The off side I was unable to reach so used some zip ties through the ducting.

Thanks Simon --- you are quite correct, Porsche have no more and will make no more. Supposedly they used to cost £130 ish each !

Southbound will investigate a batch if enough people want them.

What a great bunch they are --- I had a thoroughly useful discussion with them --- which was all the better because they sound as nerdish as I am !

Chris, is this the box that fits over the seat belt reel at the base of the pillar?
I seem to have a complete one on one side and half of one on the other. Not sure why, can only assume it fouled the cage. So if you were to convince Southbound to make them, could i buy just 1 do you think??
Cheers, Jon

Dangerous stuff this, I may have found a cause !

Yes, my car is missing both the covers over the seat belt reels because they obviously fouled the roll cage --- when fitted.

I have contacted the previous owner to see --- per chance, if he kept them.

In the absence of a reply I will also need a pair --- so, that's two and a half sets so far !

Jon, which half of which one are you missing ?

I believe they are all black ....

Yes but surely the person selling will deal.....maybe firm on his asking without the magnesiums so add £3000 thus car is £48,000 .....

Lets be fair guys, it has not sold because the asking price is a bit high for a private sale...insurance valuation is one thing, but actually coming up with the £££ at these levels for one is another matter ;)

A pair of "mint condition" wheels or others and a complete refurb - maybe £4k plus repair the front PU and sort out the rust patch - mayby £2k so this would make it a £50k plus car on a private sale[:(]
