The 2012 PCGB Club Championship

ORIGINAL: paulf968 methinks if everyone pitches up at Brands Indy where a quick lap is only 55 seconds, it is going to like a mini version of the M25 in the rush hour!
Paul. You should come racing with us, in the PBMW,s thatl show you how busy it can get on the grid.....[;)][:D][;)][:D]

Sorry I don't have time to do a similar exercise for class 2 but I think a similar graph should follow a similar curve for that event -slightly curved higher in the centre so cars at each end have a slight advantage and the centre more straight. Perhaps just building such a graph might throw up an anomaly or two? OK I couldn't resist it - I stopped and drew one and actually class 2 looks similar to the class 1 graph - 2 distinct curves - the favoured curve follows the 924 Carrera GT most favoured (well you could never get the power down easily with those I know I own one) and the 944 S2 and 968 CS somewhat similarly advantaged. The other less favoured curve follows a line with the 928, 911SC, 911S, and 3.0 Carerra. I didn't put them through the diagnostics but don't feel it is necessary now - these results look good enough to draw a conclusion on. With an advantage of nearly 100 kilos between a 944 S2 and 968 - if an S2 is allowed to punch out a bit more horse power - it could be really competitive because although the 968 has 6 speeds - you would not use 6th on most circuits and the rest are quite similarly spaced. So it is not so much the power to weight ratio that looks a problem in this class but perhaps more about wheels and tyres and the better development of the 968 for many years - which I havn't researched - sorry to busy. Baz

JUST IN CASE ANYONE DIDN'T KNOW - IF YOU DOUBLE CLICK ON THE SMALL GRAPH ON THE PREVIOUS PAGE IT WILL INCREASE TO A READABLE SIZE. Baz

We had 43 on the grid for the first round of the Elise Trophy at Silverstone GP on Saturday! I believe there are circuit limits!

Still 3 weeks to go and no rush as its highly unlikely to book out. There is a few XJS model beemers in that pic above what's that all about? MX-5s the same they have to run 3x groups to get everyone in. It's like I keep saying there is huge demand for cheap wheel to wheel racing but hardly anywhere near enough championships providing it.

Yes Neil, as the new cars enetering the field are usually potentially quicker - more gears - better suspension etc - the gap between them and the cheaper end will get bigger yet our events are not over subscribed. Cheaper racing needed definitely but I am not sure how to integrate it with the quicker newer cars unless some of them move up with GT3's etc and a second race is run for older cars? Baz

Circuit time/cost doesn't help, pressure to introduce newer models pushing out older ones, then a balancing act to ensure sufficient entrants to cover costs. Would have loved to have raced a front engined Porsche in a budget orientated similarly classed series, but alas learning my way in an e30. The attrition rate can be quite high on a similar spec'd full grid [;)] Baz, as always you make for interesting (and sometimes challenging) reading, keep up the good work! As a spectator, quite looking forward to attending a couple of the races and although i appreciate the hard work yourself (and your team) are putting into this with your cars.....it'll be great to see some actual action on track and the potential development over the season [:D]. Re above photo, Racing Saloons and PBMW combined for that particular meeting. Oh, and the racing is televised on Men and Motors - perhaps something Steve could pursue with the Porsche racing? JP

Potential BTCC driver on the right there... Men and Motors has sort of become Motors TV [link=http://www.motorstv.com/]http://www.motorstv.com/[/link] This is us: http://www.motorstv.com/car/others/brscc-porsche-championship

A few of the contenders were out at Oulton yesterday.....Team Strasse were looking after Richard and Chris while Mark McAleer was giving his 996 a shake down. It was good fun for us humble trackdayers to share the tarmac with some of the racers [:)]

Lucky they were there yesterday - we are still finishing rebuilding the car we crashed at Silverstone in the wet and fitting a few other new parts (I thought starting last Autumn would give us plenty of time but it hasn't worked out that way) - so Brands Hatch will be very much a first run - hopefully in the dry - for our new cars. I guess it usually isn't actually all that different anyway! How did the opposition look? I guess the 996's were very quick! Baz

Yes we were extremely lucky with the weather. They all looked like they were going well and getting some useful running. Here's a brief clip of Mark's 996 passing me on track: www.youtube.com/watch?v=HeWaUFkRJ0o I was on a warm up lap at the time but that wouldn't have made much difference! [:D]

Steve I hope I don't see too much of the back of Mark's car this season myself !! .... in reality I'll do well to keep up. The anticipation and excitement are starting to ramp up for Brands on 5th May, I am ready save for a 4 wheel alignment check over at C o G on Monday. The car seems to have settled a bit and is now too low IMO -- and I also need to carry the best part of 30kg as ballast in the passenger seat area, so the corner weighting will need some minor adjusting -- all part of Chris's package when he works on a car.

So here is the latest entry list for Brands, Paul Winter now out in another 996, he'll be quick. Am pretty sure a few more have yet to declare their entries, I can think of 2 who I was expecting to race.

I am trying not to think about it too much, to say it is exciting is an understatement. I can say as well it really does feel great to see my name on that list [:)]. Current weather forecast is a bit mixed up though, could do almost anything.

I sure hope you have better weather than we're having at Snetterton. The Marshals have all been replaced with Lifeguards.
