The answer for RMS problems?

Nigel

I regret to say that I have had no response from Customer Relations hence no response to your post. The forthcoming meeting should provide a more constructive outcome.

JCB..

John

Thank you for your response - I thought as much but was taught to 'never assume'.

As you say hopefully there will be a constructive outcome to the planned meeting - if nothing else you will have trod a pathway to their door for the future.

Fingers crossed for 29th - many of us will be looking forwards to a good result - but probably not quite as many as those of us who are crossing fingers for later today! [;)]

keep well

Nigel

Hi there,
Sorry to bring this bad egg up again. RMS []

Can anyone please tell me the outcome of this meeting?

Cheers,

No problem brining it up - I think we are all eager to find out if the Club and Porsche Cars are able to take this forward in a positive way.

My fingers are crossed[:)] (Mkaes ti diiffulct ot tpye thuogh[&:])

Well....

I can tell you this much at present;

We had a meeting and we have agreed to wait for an official response to the issues raised during the meeting before announcing the survey results and the content of the aforementioned official response.

I would like to add that this is my own understanding of the situation as of 17:10 yesterday.

JCB..

Thanks for the update John.

I heard about this survey over on rennlist but I also heard that it was only carried out for Boxster
owners. Is there a reason why 996 owners where not included?
Also, is there a link to somewhere where I can read up some more about this survey?

Note my avatar: I am the instigator of this club, a web site will follow soon for RMS plagued 996/986 owners. Hence my interest. More info can be found here: http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=140078

Many thanks in advance.

John

Thanks for the update albeit rather vague - can I suggest to everyone that openess and transparency ought to be the backbone of this - our - members Club.

Fingers crossed that the meeting went well. Have you an expected 'reply by date' from Porsche and if so will the results of the survey be distributed for all to see on that date or are we to be kept guessing at the behest of Porsche?

Thanks again for the input,

I am waiting for Geoff Turral to let me know when he can get a technical answer to us.

The one substantive point that came out of the meeting, Porsche Cars have improved their extended warranty offering to cover RMS. the warranty is now with Porsche directly and comes with European assistance, at £720 pa.

Of course, Geoff re-iterated their answer that for out of warranty claims, each case is treated on its merits. From the feedback I have received from owners, sometimes the offer falls short of what I would expect.

I will wait to hear from Geoff

hmmm, don't take this the wrong way, as it's not a comment aimed at the efforts the guys have been making to talk to Porsche, but I get the feeling porsche's "answer" will be that they have now included RMS in their extended warranty package. I think there will be a lot of people very disappointed and angry if that turns out to be their "solution". It would be a shame if they had to have their good name soured by this problem and for someone to take them through the courts in the UK...whether they won or lost the case it would do untold damage to Porsche's reputation.

Well I don't want to jump the gun too early but that answer from Geoff Turral is the same standard answer I got from Reading's customer services Dept: "each case is treated on its merits". And including the RMS in the extended warranty
is very nice but it doesn't help us none-warranty owners.....loyal owners at that.....
Sounds like you guys got the same old runaround.

My 2000 C2 cab has been treated like a baby since new, serviced by the book, never tracked, garaged etc etc. It's now
just done 38,000 miles. The gearbox is wining and judging by the number of RMS's I am going through the engine aint
so hot either. What's the deal here? Where's the merit in my case? This is my 3rd 911, I bought it in good faith and payed
good hard earned tax payed cash for this baby so I expect it to last more than 35,000 miles. This is a freaking Porsche for Chris'ts sake!

Berny,

I put it to Geoff that as a personal view, I would expect a correctly serviced Porsche to last 200,000 miles and at least 10 years before I would expect to replace the engine. That doesn't include RMS, since this is a repair job. You must be unlucky indeed with five RMS replacements, is this a sad record?
Personally I will go for the extended warranty; in fact I have been saying this for some years because I believe it is good value. Of course, any design or manufacturing defects should be rectified with or without a warranty (in perpetuity)
Btw, are you a Club member, it says you aren't on your Forum details?
Lets wait for the Porsche response.

Yes indeed it is a sad record.

I have only recently signed up to PCGB. Still awaiting the package....whatever that is.

According to the engineer either my gearbox is causing the RMS to fail or the RMS failure has caused the gearbox to fail.
The issue as I see it is that these problems must be manufacturing flaws and should be put right by
the manufacturer no questions asked. The car has never been tracked and its been meticulously serviced by
the dealership. On a car of this calibre and expense, one would expect not to have to pay for
a replacement engine and gearbox at 27,000 miles (that's when the problems first started). Incidentally, they are now refusing to fix the RMS again until I pay for the gearbox replacement. So my poor baby hobbles on none the better since it had its 1st RMS done and now at 38,000 miles.

Look at it another way, if they fix my car under warranty I would be looking to part ex it this time next year on the 997.
They would win in the end. If they don't, then I will seek legal advice and I certainly wouldn't touch another Porsche again. They would loose in the end. Wouldn't you think that they would want to keep customers like me. I mean this is my 3rd 911 so I put myself into the loyal customer basket. But how loyal are they?

Oh and I forgot to mention that I agree the extended warranty scheme is IMHO a good scheme and I am desperately trying to get on it. But they wouldn't let me get on to it until I had my gearbox replaced (at my cost). catch 22!

Berny,

I cannot disagree with you, but Porsche Cars GB makes their own view (with help from AG).

I think most of us Club Members are in it for the long haul (I am on my fourth new Porsche) and expect to have many more in the future. So goodwill is very important on both sides.

I will post the information I get back from Porsche and I wish you the best in your negotiations.

Please forgive me if this is a stupid comment,

seems to me the RMS only leaks when the car is cold. eg parked. so i was wondering if using an oil thats thicker when cold would help[:-]

new porsche forum at www.porschaforum.com it fun, relaxed and you all welcome.

helen - not at all, it is a very good point, we all use fully synthetic mobil 1 which is runny to say the least....it is advised on some older porsches NOT to move to newer oils as it is too runny and basically will seep between the cracks, so the theory is very relevant. Unfortunately our engines are designed for the thin stuff, so don't know how well they would appreciate the thicker stuff.
