Track Days

I think you know me too well! but as long as I can stay above 50mph then the rain doesn't come into the cabin! - Sadly I'm not driving on Monday (work and all that) but will pop down to the pub on Sunday night.

I've decided to bail on this. My car doesn't really do cold let alone snow. It's a shame as I was really looking forward to it, but there's a good amount of snow where I had planned to stay tomorrow night with more predicted for tomorrow. So I can't get there. And driving up on Monday morning would mean I'd have to leave the West Country by about 4am to make Bedford for 7.30 - simply not an option. Never mind. Hopefully they'll be a 944 meet in the summer. On the upside, the car looks great now. I had it prepared last week, with a tweak more boost and a stiffening turn of the suspension, and then two chaps spent a day polishing it. When they finished on Friday afternoon it started to rain, so I even left in my office so as not to get it dirty on the drive home. At least it will be a very glossy and welcoming sight when I go back to work on Monday. I hope those that do go have a great time. And no crashing! And I just thought - if the day does go ahead, if someone that wants my place, feel free to use it.

that's a shame Ewan reports from my "on the spot" weatherman chrisg are reasonably promising. btw there's no need to be there for 7.30. you can sign on after the briefing at 8.30. I'm sure that there will be a fair few people turning up late on Monday so there will probably be some additional briefings.

Yes a shame, Monday shows a dry day and snow is not really settling at the moment, even a damp circuit will probably dry out soonish. Perhaps you cool re-assess tomorrow? Edd

I'm in Leicester and the snow was heavy ish but it's all melting,I bet will mostly be gone by Monday ,all the roads are clear. Looking forward to this[:)]

That's a shame Ewan. I am still optimistic of going. Will see what conditions are like Monday morning. Fingers crossed. On the positive side, at least there is no need to spend all day tomorrow cleaning and polishing!

Down here on the Hampshire/Berkshire/Surrey border the earlier fairly heavy snow has stopped and what was lying has mostly melted [:)]

Good to hear that things aren't as bad as first forecast [:)]. Let's hope it stays like that, as I've finished the last bit of fettling today (loose alternator []) and completed all my pre-flight checks... Just need to sort out all the stuff I'll be taking with me, and set the alarm for an early start on Monday. At least I won't need to bring along my spare wheels/tyres, as I don't think that they're going to be a lot of use until the weather warms up a bit! Phil

Latest update from Javelin's website:
Bulletin : 18.00 hrs Saturday 23rd March 2013 Bedford Autodrome - Monday 25th March 2013 As conditions are forecast to improve throughout Sunday there will not be a circuit assessment late Sunday afternoon. The outcome of that inspection will be posted here as per our Winter Weather Policy.
Looks like it's going to be a last minute call tomorrow before we know for certain... Phil

Corrected version, they obviously realised that what they had posted made no sense.

Thanks for the weather updates, keep them coming! my car now has rattle free rear disc shields, new rear bilstiens less one bolt that I forgot I lost, so the cab will lend one again tomorrow, removed the leaky catch tank. Also popped in some wheel centre caps, not sure I like them with these wheels, but better than none and must be worth several seconds a lap ;)

I'm 20 miles west of the circuit and whilst we had an inch overnight and it's been rain/sleeting off and on all day, the roads are merely wet. The forecast is the same for tomorrow but Monday is still down as dry and bright with sunny periods but bitterly cold. Bedford Autodrome is a smooth and reasonably wide circuit with miles of runoff so it should be a great day [:)] BTW I will be in a Turbo not S2 as previously advertised [;)]

Hi all, I've been out on the 944 this morning and it's absolutely fine where I am (about 40 mins west of Bedford). I did my first trackday there in Feb this year and it was snowing as I left. Whilst very cold in the pit lane that day it was great fun on the circuit - there is so much wide space and run off you can just enjoy yourselves. I'll be there come rain, sleet or snow!! Here's some pics I took at Silverstone last weekend - suffice to say that was cancelled (nothing like as bad as that right now)!
