Track Days

Another note of appreciation to Edd for the organisation and rallying the troops. It was a great day and a great opportunity to meet a number of you. Driving standards were excellent making it a really fun day. Seriously thinned out by 3:30pm... Hope there were not more breakdowns than the couple mentioned here. Cheers Mick

ORIGINAL: Caymanster A bit of gopro footage from my 924s. Had a great day. Had to leave soon after lunch which was a shame as I'd been promised some pax rides in some of your lovely machinery. Next time I hope. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=T7RHp1V6nXw
YouTube has this as a private video so I cannot see it - any chance of rectifying or adding me to the private list? Cheers Mick
Sorry. Fixed now.

What a great day [:D]. Thoroughly enjoyed the sessions I managed, before being side-lined by totally knackered brakes! Pretty sure I also have some kind of air lock in the coolant system as it was running a bit warmer than usual on the way home, accompanied by lots of gurgling noises [:-]. Still, great day and great company. Well done Edd!

I did also wonder if there is a bad batch of oil filters with a smaller outer lip, is the s2 filter different?

ORIGINAL: Peter Empson I think I did have some brief footage of a poorly beaky from the first session, but had to delete it as I was running out of memory, but most of that video was of me trying to start the car without much success (I think my head gasket has had it). Here's a taster of the quality of my videoing (warning, no 944 content), the last 10 mins of one of the sessions is like this throughout!: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=baq2SEOVos8&feature=youtu.be
Dont tv companies pay big money for those cameras that swivel round for a rear view? [:D]

Sounds like a fantastic day and something that should definitely become an annual event - well done Edd ! Unfortunately my car currently has "issues" (perhaps I should buy an S2 ! [;)]) so couldn't attend, next year however....[:)]

For those with brake issues some additional ducting will work wonders, IIRC Diver944 used to clip some in place under the batwing for trackdays, I have some universal ducts hiding behind the lower vents with some pipes pointing at the discs - mine are quite a way off the discs and just point in that general direction, but it is possible to buy adaptors that replace the backplates to take the pipe (and air) right to the centre of the disc. I did over 140 track miles and was very rusty in the morning, after the instructor had smoothed some of my rougher edges I was a lot faster later in the day. It was interesting to follow Peter through a corner at almost the same speed and line and just 4 wheel drift wide, all that extra weight my car is carrying plus the relatively soggy road biased suspension (brand new bilstein B6 rear with leda fronts) At the end of the day I did suffer a boost controller failure - it is leaking around the pressure sensor so I was hitting over 35 psi the max on my guage. It was mighty once it started building boost up to around 3500 to 4000 rpm where the fuelling ran out, switching the boost controller off it ran ok for 1 lap at 10psi and I was contemplating some low boost laps, but then there was a red flag as someone had spilt oil all over the track again. [;)] Tony

Yes it was a really good day, was great to see so many 944's and family out and being used. Good effort by those who weren't driving too. Javelin were very good I thought and I would not hesitate using them again. Will try and make it an annual thing if there is enough interest. Edd

Good memory Tony. [:)] I used to track the S2 on full slicks and was concerned about the extra heat generated so bought 3 metres of 3" tubing from Triton Racing supplies in Silverstone. It was bolted to the underneath of the batwing where the two indentations are and was tie wrapped to the inside of the arch and then bolted directly to the suspension strut using the bolts that hold the factory brake deflector in place. Pointed directly at the inside of the brake disk it was very effective (though a little ugly when viewed from a distance away, I'll find photos tonight) Turbos with the M030 option have the extra vents straight through the front bumper into the wheel arch and are great for attaching ducting straight to the back of the disk

mine were 2 different manufacturers - Mahle and Bosch. I think the OPRV is the prime suspect and will be replacing it when the car come back from MOT (cleaned it off and dropped it off this morning)

Used to look mean in the mirror when you were catching me

hmmm - check your OPRV's everyone..... just ordered a new one from Porsche Leicester - waiting for them to come back with extra ("MarkK's mates") discount [:D] I'm at Cadwell with Javelin next Thursday...

Nice! [:)] BTW with the GoPro mounted there, if you switch the video to 'spot' mode you'll get a better view through the front screen (I guess it was in normal mode which created the sun glare).

Hi Edd Thanks for arranging it all. A great day out! Nice to meet so many of you in person. cheers Ian

Thanks for the advice, I'll do that next time. This was my first time using a gopro. I've bought a rollbar mount so I should be able to locate it better next time too.

Thanks to all the guys who looked for and pondered Beakys malady with me yesterday. It transpires that the ball joint fell apart, so nothing we could have done had we had ramps or not. Frustratingly it was a modified ball joint so I now need to consider if I shall rebuild the modified version or not. On the plus side I still have my original lower wishbones so at least they can be swapped back in the mean time. I'm pretty relieved now in retrospect considering what could have happened.

A bit more footage - sorry I am not yet capable of editing out the pits bit! A bit of 944 action on here. I had to keep my noise down entering the pit straight after being black flagged for noise on lap 2! The instructor thought it was crazy given the car is clearly not too noisy (outside!) and Bedford did say the noise meter can give false positives sometimes! When you watch these videos back you do wonder why you brake so early and since it all looks so effortless you question why you didn't try harder. On the day of course you thought you were at 10:10ths [:D] Enjoy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1bbYlz8OraU&feature=youtu.be Cheers Mick
