Track Days

ORIGINAL: John Sims Frustratingly it was a modified ball joint so I now need to consider if I shall rebuild the modified version or not. On the plus side I still have my original lower wishbones so at least they can be swapped back in the mean time. I'm pretty relieved now in retrospect considering what could have happened.
Eek! [] Sounds like a lucky escape then, could have been very nasty.

ORIGINAL: Peter Empson I can now see what you meant about roll, I definitely recommend looking at some 968 M030 arbs or similar, even with standard suspension they will make a big difference.
standard S2 ARB's on mine...

But much stiffer springs

Completely agree, but they are a considerably more complex/expensive solution. Personally going stiffer on arbs enabled me to carry on with standard suspension much longer than I would have otherwise, a bit of a 'bodge' perhaps, but I think an effective one. Money no object? Do both straight away!

Agreed - and as Masher has a car with such great potential, might as well do it properly.. [:D] (I like spending other people's money..) I may eventually fit 968 030 arb's - I have the rear one in stock.. Trouble is there's always something else more pressing, like an oil pressure relief valve [:(]

ORIGINAL: GlennS There is a gallery of photographs from the day here. http://www.sportpicsuk.com/bedfordtd My apologies to anyone I missed, it was nothing personal. Let me know if you want any copies.
Nice pics. Thanks for sharing, Mick

A very kind comment, thanks. Car shook like a good'un on the way home. Speed related so I assume I've thrown a wheel weight or, more likely, got great lumps of rubber stuck to the tyres. MoT is due so I'll get through that then look to tackle the suspension. Having taken advantage of RPM's Saturday clinic, I also know the wishbone bushes need doing too. Never knowingly cheap. Thats cars [:D] Mick

great pics, thanks, and some lovely cars!

I do have some footage with a couple of 944s and 968s in it and also a bit where my camera pans down and films the gear lever! hopefully be ready to upload tomorrow. Tony

Glenn, great pics as usual, thanks for sharing with us. That's even more beer tokens, when are we going to be using them up? you will need to be without Trigger [:D][:D]

Hi guys Must say big thanks to Edd - well done mate, great day! And to Tony for some pretty quick pax laps. Glad you got home ok John Ed etc. Got some pics with the fuel heading the wrong way out of the tank! Been away, but should be able to upload some pics tonight. Tried sorting them - so many black and red ones! Even the meal gpod!

Cracking day, thanks Edd, and nothing (major) broke!! Well worth the trek up from the West Country... Great pics, Glenn, some interesting roll angles indeed [:)]

Yes, a great day - thanks again to Edd! - and great to see so many there. Ferdie behaved impeccably, not that I was troubling him with too much vigour as I was worried about getting black flagged for noise - I'm not even sure there was any flamage! - but it's good to have him snuggled up safely back on his side of the garage nonetheless. As lots have already said, this should become an annual event!

My video is up http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Q-EkM4zkTM Peter managed to catch loads of us I have 2 or 3 944s and a couple of 968s - I should have put the camera in the car earlier. Watching it back there are some places I should have tried a lot harder! Tony

Certainly caught up with me rather rapidly[:(], your driving seemed pretty spot on to me[;)] Shawn

We got an apology from Steve Bennett re his chap not turning up, hope it wasn't his 924 that broke down! And it would appear that Chris wasn't there. Very sorry about this Edd. I've only just found out today that he didn't make it because of car problems. I hope you had a successful day none the less. Am annoyed because it would have made a great feature. Best regards, Steve

I was better when I had something to aim at [:D]

Cross posted - looked worth a punt for those people with an urge to do a few more track days.. [link=http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=768015&mpage=1&key=򻠏]Leda Coilovers[/link] *Need to check which, if any 944's these would fit* Used to run these on my 944 turbo which was great as a road / track car. Less crashy than M030 in the opinion of one learned driver (not me - a has-been ex-club racer [:D]). I'd agree that they were a bit soft for a track only car, but might just work with stiffer springs. Worth checking if these have helper springs on the rear that could be changed. Some very old Leda shocks aren't rebuildable. Gaz will rebuild the later models. Rust around the lower mounts on the rear will need attention as the mounts can fracture (not nice when it happens at the nurburgring! [:-])
