ORIGINAL: steve 944t I think I may have broken my car! Blew out lots of coolant after my last session, hence calling it a day (coupled with no brakes [:-]) Drive home was ok, but temperature fluctuated a lot, though didn't overheat. Lots of gurgling noises. Coolant level low again on checking tonight, coupled with lots of pressure in the system. Hoping it is just an air lock, but can't ignore the possibility of HGF [] On the positive side there is no evidence of oil in water or visa versa, but fitting of level 2 kit with a 25 year old head gasket may have been asking for trouble. I know, I know "we told you so" but I was planning a major overhaul this winter. May have to bring that forward. Annoyingly, daughter's birthday party this weekend and trip to USA next week means no time for further investigation just yet so will have to wait and see. Fingers crossed. Planning on doing the Javelin Bedford day on 27th July though so will just have to bite the bullet if it comes to it. Oh, and the 996 has a noisy clutch release bearing so needs a new clutch imminently! Porsche - there is no substitute! [:D]
It could be you have a weak coolant cap - if it ran hot it may have relaesed coolant early leaving airlocks - even this could be HG related
Plus 1 on that, I had similar symptoms on the Wirral dyno day, was rather resigned to HG failure, but dyno place swapped cap an no problems with cooling system for 3 years till I sold it.

So... I arrived at Bedford with an iffy cooling fan switch and an iffy alternator. The driver's side window mechanism lunched itself after the noise test and thanks to some driving, which I'm proud to say my instructor described as "ballsy", I also need new brake pads all round... The pads have plenty of meat left but they got so hot that the friction material has separated from the backing plates. Oh, and all the pad wear sensors have melted. Don't get me wrong, I had the best day (top and tailed perfectly by the hotel before and Italian meal after) but I'm certainly counting the cost. Have I mentioned that I pulled in at one point because liquid was spraying onto the windscreen from under the bonnet and as I lifted the bonnet, expecting the worst, I found that I appeared to have boiled the washer fluid... James

James has your window started working again? Last February I went for a meal with friends in mine and the window would go down but not up, however I tried to pull etc! I would add that it was miles in the country, lots of snow, -5C and snowing on and off. So I left it open, had a good meal came out, all my windows were clear inside and out, pushed the button out of habit as much as anything else and it went up as ususl.

Hi Mike Nope, the mechanism made some pretty awful noises then the window dropped at an angle. I then foolishly tried to wind it back up and because of the angle the glass pulled the rubber seal out of the channel and turned it inside out. This did at least serve to wedge the window firmly shut while on track... Having taken the door apart, it transpired that the metal channel that supports the bottom edge of the glass had completely rusted away and it snapped leaving the regulator supporting the glass on one side only, hence the angle. New channels are only available with new windows but that does at least mean I can get rid of the old window which was badly scratched. Cheers James

Hi Glenn, How do i order some prints? 11,43,52,93,131,192,193,255 Thanks Shawn

There is a track day at Donington on 4th August which has a number of Porsches at it (I know a few 964 owners are going). I'll be there - in the 944 if I have got the intercooler working efficiently, the 964 if not. Cheers Mick

There are still places left on that, and it's not a bad price for Donny either. Might be worth starting a new thread?

£295 looked a bit steep for me... I was considering some of the bookatrack evenings at Donington - I'm only 15 mins away, and you can get a lot of track time in during an evening session.

Yes I guess it is, but most of the full days tend to be £399..... An evening one would also be good :)
