what did you do to your 944 today

That looks like a horrible smash - there's a lot of damage there. Very glad to hear you're OK. looks like you were actually quite lucky in the end as you want backwards into the tree. Going in sideways might have hurt more. These cars do seem to be pretty strong, particularly for a 30+ year old basic design. I keep telling myself that as a justification for using it on track with no cage [:D]

Hope you feeling ok today as the couple of days after a bump can be a bit "achy"!! I had a couple of small impacts racing and my neck really hurt so hope you are ok. Will you be going 968,944 turbo or a change to something else?

Fatty, I offered comiserations on the PH thread, now I see the details on here as well. Glad you are unhurt. Very sorry to see the demise of your new car. Had the Elan not been there, would your machine have come off un-damaged? Oli.

I am fine, thanks, just a bit achey, I checked inside today and the passenger cell is completely intact even the rear seats, so they are strong cars If the Lotus wasn't there then maybe just the little scrape from the central res barrier and a lot of hurt Pride... It looks like my insurance will get hit for the Lotus as well, so it is going to be a big hit, so I guess my insurance premiums will be going up too...I have agreed with my Wife that I will drive a (more) sensible car for a year or two to rebuild my NCB before getting something MenoPorschal again...:'( I have some other expensive hobbies so need to demonstrate some give 'n' take... Looking at an Jag X350 XJ6, a Mercedes C430, Alfa GT or SAAB 9 3 Aero at the moment...we will take the opportunity to chop in my Wife's 535D Touring and re-configure our car mix so that we can swap around a bit, especially since my Daughter's spinal surgery she has not been able to go in the Porsche

All change in the Atkins household. Keep us posted with your decisions, and I hope you come back to something from the 944/968 stable again soon. (And, if it's any help, I was tempted by a 9-3 Aero when I bought my S2. Good image, great interior, very low-profile, lots of power and performance, good build quality, reliable. Sadly I found the chassis deeply disappointing ... I hope you fare better.) Oh, and to keep this thread on-topic, I removed the wheels to try and find the cause of some brake pedal pulsing which has affected the car recently. I dial-tested all the brake disks and run-out was between 0 and 0.03mm on each disk, which is well within tolerance. I cleaned up the mating surfaces, cleaned the wheel studs, put some fresh coppaslip on them and torqued up the wheel nuts carefully, and test-drove. Great improvement! All I need now is a good excuse for a long trip in it ... the old girl is suffering from too many short journeys around town these days, alas. [] Oli.

Pressed up on the passenger window switch on the drivers door and the switch went into the door [:-] Dropped into PH on the way home (800metre detour[:D]) but its been raining since I got home so replacement is still on the desk! Discovered that my roller blind it an "uprated" one, the end caps are manufactured from stainless steel! The one on the 924S at the NEC broke on the setup day, so I took mine in. Phil was surprised as he fitted it, I hadn't noticed, love to know who made it.

Good to hear you walked away from it - metal is at least replaceable ! Shame to have lost such a nice car though..... Hope the aches disappear soon - I made a close acquaintance of the M6 central reservation some 20 years ago, and still feel it on cold days. Best Wishes Alan

Went for my first proper drive since having Jon at JMG fit his shortest throw "race shift" and a new clutch and flywheel. What a difference! No more slop. A tactile joy. Thoroughly recommended, and I think it's available as a kit for home fit for those with more time, skill and tools than me.

I finished making the Ipod ala ashtray holder toady and fitted the 3bar FPR and blocked off the pipe from the cycling valve to the J boot.

Glad to hear you are ok Jeremy and a good job the Lotus owner wasn't standing next to his car. Made of good stuff these 944 pluses. Has been said already metal can be replaced. My Turbo bit me a couple of weeks ago which made me decide it was time to do work on her rather than drive her. So up on axle stands now for the winter. Back to thread. ABS wiring pulled out for replacement. Roll on spring [:D]

Poked strimmer wire down the sunroof drain holes and fitted new front wiper-arms. Edit: Also added a little rubber cover to the headlamp motor, something I didn't know was missing until Snetterton. MUST stop looking into other people's engine bays!

Write up and pictures appreciated.

Will do once I have put all the centre console back in, im still wiring in gauges and need to run speaker and amp cables down the side of the tuneel first. Im pleased with the way it has turned out but for clearance I have to use a genuine type ipod/usb lead.

Edd - Leather buckets are looking really nice. I want to fit leather buckts but with original Porsche seat material in the centre section, when i finally find me a nice 944 turbo...

You mean something like the Porsche script material? I know RPM did something similar with their 968 engined 944 'clubsport', although not leather and with the blue pinstripe material, it didnt look like a brilliant job tbo, the cloth just rucked up and looked poorly put together. I would be interested to see what you mean, personally I like the idea of doing 'factory' style things with the interior, period style changes can add a bit of individualism without being too naff. Over the weekend I changed the cambelt on my wife`s Mk 4 Golf. It took all weekend - an absolute PITA - horrible job. Not for the faint hearted. Just thought I`d mention it as the cuts and bruises on my hands are only now allowing me to type this [&:]
