what did you do to your 944 today

ORIGINAL: Martin Sage 944?&Porsche World. I hope you all have your latest copy of 911 & Porsche World (Jan 2013) as it turns out to be a closet 944 issue[;)] Don't read the bit on the 944S though if, like me, thats what you have got [&o] Makes a great stocking filler though, hint, hint.
Martin there was a thread o the mag a few days back. Def a good write up on our cars. Edd

I think paint the whole centre and just have an embossed look.I am having my track CS forged Turbo wheels done at the minute and that's what I am doing,as they are track wheels I am having an experiment and going for a different look, had to be a colour that goes with a black or red car so am going for a lacquered metallic gold finish.... Put some pics up of your white wheels when you can would love to see what they look like.!

[:)] Gold wheels are appearing all over the place on lots of different cars and I thought what the hell! I still have my JPS lotus toy car! Still have some totally standard road wheels like I said its just a giggle.got gloss black on my red car and it was fun just to have a change, plus its easy to change if it looks duff.

I would go for white centres as well, I had black centre on silver wheels for a few weeks, and silver centres on black wheels (logistical reasons!) they look wrong in a different colour

Changed my transaxle fluid, no metal present in the old oil [:)] and also discovered the factory fitted LSD is still present [8D] Had planned to do the fuel filter too but with the oil cooler pipe in the way it looked a pig of a job so will save that for another day! Then did an oil and filter change - forgot how much of a PITA oil filters are to change on these [:D] Again, no metal filings on the sump plug or in the oil so well happy. Went for a spin after, had the 'overboost' type problem rear it's head again, the second time it did it (whilst overtaking a lorry - scary!) shortly after I had to stop for a car in front turning right. As soon as I stopped the car stalled. Very weird! Will take a look tomorrow to see what's up, if I can find it

ORIGINAL: _ian She has hinted that if I just handed over the keys she might be willing to reconsider her opinion.
Do it! I have just found out (after writing off the 968) that my Wife really enjoyed driving it and that she was afraid to ask to have it as she felt I was too precious about it! I was so annoyed, I would have loved her to take it and enjoy it!

My better half hates mine. When she uses it she finds the steering and clutch heavy after the Legacy (go figure), the remote always sets off the alarm (that'll be the wrong button then), and it gets her a load of abuse at work about "earning too much". If only they knew the cost/value ratio of an old 944, rather than jumped to conclusions when she parks up a Porsche!

My mrs loves our black turbo but she says she has to sit too close to reach the pedals with her feet, she is no shorty either, she has a old 911 that says is way more comfy to drive? Bizzare ??

Just picked u up a load of bits from porkaparts including a power rack. I don't know why I haven't been to elliot before! Looks like I'll be having some fun with the car in the new year. dejavu?

Fitted this, as the badge panel is off for spraying. Date on the old one? 2007. []

ORIGINAL: GlennS Got some prices from the local scrappers. £205 if I take it to them or £195 if they collect.
Bad day Glenn?
Possibly...
ORIGINAL: A9XXC Is that for your back or the S2? What's the story, Glenn?
The S2. No-one would give £200 for my back, Mike! The story is that I am aware of some substantial expenses coming up to get the car back to where it needs to be. This includes bodywork and mechanical issues. I am unconvinced that it is worth doing, although the car would be "good" by the time it was finished. To add to that, whilst I love the car I am not sure I have the right temperament for owning an old Porsche; I worry about everything and frankly it is taking up too much time and turning into a degree of hassle I can live without. I've got until mid-January to make up my mind whether to fix it or kill it.

Certainly don't just scrap it, they're worth more than that to a specialist breaker at worst, even if no-one want it as a cheap project! [&o] I totally understand where you're coming from. Last year's £3K-plus service was a shock, although I knew most was coming, but this year's £2.5K was unexpected, and hurt. Now having the bodywork done is more piled on top, although the fact it was so much better than I thought has lessened the blow a lot, and tying it in with the insurance repair means only half the paint is down to me. Even so, I still have the PAS to sort, am worried about the HG, and the suspension is badly in need of attention. It does seem endless, and that's not counting all the little niggly faults that are always popping up on any old car. I know I sound like a voice of doom, but I think you have to be pretty commited to run an old specialist car these days, with repairs so out-of-balance with the value. I can't imagine what else I'd want that wouldn't be more hassle, and more expensive, so I keep gritting my teeth and getting the credit card out again. I have been very close to giving up, though, on a few occasions! How much work does yours need?

Glenn - I sold my insurance cat C write off 2.7 with a big hole in the engine for just shy of £1500 and the guy who ended up parting it out made another £1k on top. Whether you keep it or not is your decision but don't scrap it for £200!!!
