what did you do to your 944 today

Yesterday (yes, I am cheating) I went and collected the nearside handbrake cable from OPC Reading. Whilst I was there, I was unfaithful to my 944. I made goo-goo eyes (and some licentious suggestions) towards a Porsche 962c parked in front of the reception desk. I refrained from inappropriate touching as the receptionist was watching. No doubt I will be made to suffer for my indiscretions, probably by being forced to buy more expensive presents for my 944.

Took my camshafts out, then put them back in again (with a new chain). The old chain had stretched so that the tensioner was pretty near the end of it's travel. Putting the two chains side-by-side I couldn't see much difference, but the tensioner is visibly more compressed. I hope this fixes my top-end rattling noise... otherwise it's time for head off and new valve guides...

Put the last bits back on that we've taken off and put in some new bulbs. Now waiting for the ECU to come Tuesday :)

Now the snows all gone I thought I'd take it out for a lengthy spin. However, not having started it for two weeks the 944 wasn't having any of that. Would barely turn over and didn't start. Going to borrow a jump start pack from a friend and hopefully will have it back out tomorrow. I'm in my last week of gardening leave before starting the new job, so had been looking forward to getting out for a nice drive.

fitted the new ignition leads, turned over and idled nicely today, so shall have to get dad to take her out for a blast with me to see how she preforms under acceleration. New interior led's turned up and waiting for some other replacement interior trim to turn up and fit the new sensors soon.

Glad your having more luck than me man! Fingers crossed the MOT goes well for you mate! What you got to do still? Mine still isn't working properly low rev acceleration its lumpy and is a reluctant, hoof it and it seems to go. going to pull the distributor cap of today as didnt get a chance when I done the leads and will check the rotor arm though starting to think they might not be the problem and its something else? Seems so random, drove perfectly on the test drive, drove perfectly like the 270mile drive home and then all of a sudden idle's and runs funny.

Excellent :D

Nearside handbrake cable replaced. Car no longer has a "comedy handbrake" for the first time in my ownership! Rear disc pads changed Both front wheel bearings tightened eliminating a vibration at "sensible" motorway speeds. Heat shield moved slightly eliminating an odd rattle which only exhibited when the car was given many revs in a tight left-hander. Next up... the bodywork fettling.

Sounds like a good bit of work glenn! I got the final igntion lead changed today the one running into the distributor cap as couldnt remove it myself as couldnt get a grip due to slicing my thumb open. took it out for a test drive where she behaved and drove like a dream as she did on the test drive and drive home, so touch wood I hope its sorted now. Also got two new interior light units from Elliot on here (as both mine were a little damaged/ cracked and annoyed me) so fitted them and put in some nice new white LED interior bulbs and fitted the new heater slider knob I broke and annoyed me.

Lit the fires for the first time in 3 months and used her to go and watch my eldest daughter play netball. An hour there, and an hour back. That's the longest journey this car has done for many a year. It was dark by the time I got home, so i haven't checked to see what has broken or fallen off or been worn out by this marathon trip. But I'm pretty confident that I'll live to regret attempting such a long distance in a 944.

Went to the bodyshop to look at it a bit more and ask the guy further down the block exactly when he would be towing it back to mine as it's been sat ready for nearly a week. I do believe that the delivery I missed today were my CF door panels so am looking forward to a trip to the depot to collect those in the morning :)
