what did you do to your 944 today

OMG Martin! Those calipers look like they need painting (or maybe it's a reflection of light?). Seriously good work and I'm loving your garage (which is, itself, cleaner than my 968!).

Cheers Steve [:)] calipers are getting painted this week. Also put a coat of Swissvax Autobahn on the wheels while they were off the car (inside as well) [;)]

^ I'm so jealous of your garage!! (Yesterday) I fitted some 968 caster blocks, first of a few steering/suspension improvements, could be placebo but steering feel is better already, although some of that might be down to setting full caster (better self centring at speed from what I have read).

Fitted new radiator after finding a massive crack had appeared in mine. Used Aaron Radiators in S.London Its probably the most expensive single part i've had to buy in the 4 years of owning my 944, £210..... wife wasn't happy.

Had a motion sensor fitted outside my garage, so as I drive towards it the lights inside come on to make parking on these dark winter nights just that little bit easier. Can't for the life of me think why I didn't have this done years ago. A simple little thing, but put a smile on my face when I came back from the office this evening.

Took my 944 back to the garage which fitted the Longlife exhaust as its dropped off a few times when going over speedbumps, got the hangers extended so that it should not now drop off again all fitted on lifetime warranty :) Love that exhaust as well!

1. Booked her in for a "Roadworthiness Examination". We don't have MOT's here in the IOM, it's a one off job when importing and then an annual check if necessary (which it won't be for the old girl as she's not a taxi or a hire car). For the sake of the £45 fee and 45 minutes out of my day I thought I might as well get it done and then if something fails, get it sorted at the... 2. ...service which is booked for 29/10. Again for the sake of a smidge more I went for a full service with genuine parts at a local independent Porsche specialist (one of only two on the island). Nice chap, got a good feeling from talking to him so happy with my choice. Want the power steering pump/hoses checked, fuel lines checked, and the handbrake cable is a bit loose (only really prevents the car moving if i pull it up round my ears). 3. Booked the windscreen chip in for an insurance repair pre "MOT". 4. Sourced a period Blaupunkt Stockholm stereo. Ok, ok I didn't really "source" it, my best man offered it to me out of his old 92' 911 (now gone). Not sure if it was an option on the 944 from the info I can find but it's there or thereabouts, and better still it's free [;)] Not a big fan of music when driving so this will replace the current Alpine, which tbh looks a bit out of place with a bright silver facia and blue lights everywhere and I'm quite keen to have everything as it should be. Hopefully be on a suitable Manx plate in next three weeks then into the garage until a bright sunny day when I can get a couple of minor jobs done and go for a spin.

I spent this afternoon learning to spray using an airbrush connected to a compressor. I have learned a great deal and I am about to buy a second list of parts to overcome the problems associated with budget kit (i.e. coiled 1/8th of an inch airline is useless as the connections will leak before you overcome the resistance of the coil). What has this to do with my 944? Well: I have two sets of 944 seats which I am about to sympathetically refurbish (grey-beige/light grey & linen), either of which may end up in my car.

I have one of those - I got the "loud" option. Superb quality and looks like a work of art under there !!
It was your recommendation and then so research which persuaded me to get one and was made all the more sweeter when I got it £160 cheaper than it was meant to be :) Though I only got the sport note as didn't fancy loud (well I did just not all the time), though sort of wish I just got it now lol Also cleaned the inside of mine yesterday and waiting now to clean the outside before I travel to Southampton on Thursday and then to get it filthy again in a field in Wales on Friday-Sunday :)

What will you do with the set that doesn't end up in the car?

Probably sell it Paul. Im far more of a buyer than a seller though, and its only because I sold a set of new Ian Harwood GRP seats on MX5Nutz that it has even occured to me (and I only sold those because someone was selling a scruffy pair for almost as much as I was happy to take for a NOS pair) to sell them, as opposed to continuing to hoard them. Looking more closely, I have a full set of grey-beige/light grey 944 seats and a set of 928 S4 linen fronts and rears and a 944 linen rear set to match. 928 seats are essentially the same as ours but with more eloborate leather covers with profiled cushions.

I went to my local Porsche independents on Thursday afternoon for a quick check over of the car before Friday's trackday at Oulton Park. I was sat waiting to turn into the industrial estate when I got rear-ended by a stupid old bint in a Nissan Juke :(

I got the car track worthy with a quite frankly almost imperceptible repair:

Somehow, most of the other attendees at the trackday were body repair experts and managed to see past my repair of wonder and kept asking me if I'd had an off so I felt the need to explain the situation with another near as dammit OEM piece of signwriting:

The vintage bintage's insurers have been excellent so far (but then again they're Saga so must be well versed in handling their members' motoring transgressions) and assured me that the car won't be written off as there are a few options open to them. I've been told to get a quote from the approved Porsche Bodyshop and also from an independent of my choice. I've costed up £1k in parts alone for an approved repair so no doubt when it's all added up that wouldn't be happening as my guess is they'll string it out to £3-4ks worth of work. My Bodyshop wizard told me to get a second hand light, a sticker and the end part of the script panel cut from a donor car and give him a week to have it good as new. So I guess it'll be his quote that gets accepted! I've been promised a "like for like" courtesy car when the repair is carried out so that could be interesting too! If anyone knows of a car heading for the scrappy where the end of the script panel can be cut out then please let me know :)

Your classic policy will allow you to retain the salvage anyway wont it Dave, meaning that their decision to 'write it off' has little practical impact on your ownership, beyond their classification (usually severe out of spite, but even a CatB makes no difference until you come to sell it).
