what did you do to your 944 today

I've been dealing direct with a specialist company that Saga outsource prestige and classic work to. They have been through three different options with me, only one of which could see the car being potentially written off. I've been very impressed with their attitude so far, there's a bit of give and take involved realistically. So if I use second hand parts and a local specialist they'll play ball too. The claims advisor told me that Saga's main concern was minimising losses due to potential personal injury claims and his main concern was getting my car repaired rather than being written off.
 
My attitude was that I just want it fixed, not bothered about using new parts or official body shops. There seemed a palpable increase in cooperation when I said I didn't want any ambulance chasers to contact me and I wasn't that fussed about a courtesy car. Although they said I'd still get one.
 
Lifted the dust cover ....yep there's still a 944 under it. Does this count as doing something
Er no. In the immortal words of the philosopher Dr Steppenwolf: "Get your motor running.. Head out on the Highway..."
 
ORIGINAL: Eldavo I went to my local Porsche independents on Thursday afternoon for a quick check over of the car before Friday's trackday at Oulton Park. I was sat waiting to turn into the industrial estate when I got rear-ended by a stupid old bint in a Nissan Juke :( ... My Bodyshop wizard told me to get a second hand light, a sticker and the end part of the script panel cut from a donor car and give him a week to have it good as new. So I guess it'll be his quote that gets accepted!
What a pain - at least that part of the car is relatively easy to fix. I think it's the front end knocks that do the most damage I'm sure it will get fixed just fine with that approach Dave - although you might be able to persuade the insurers to stretch to a new rear panel - cut the bit out you need and save the rest...
 
That's exactly my plan with the rear panel. Just need to keep the repair under "market value" of the vehicle so been advised by the insurace agent to save a few PH ads to support pricing.
 
Even with a new rear panel it should come in under market value - what's yours worth now? £6-7k? This was fixed for a grand at a Porsche approved repairer in 2006

My plan is to do the same and supply the rear light and them replace the rear panel. The guy I spoke to initally wanted to replace the rear wing rather than repair it. I said no!
 
Let the tyres down by 4 psi to 32 psi - vastly improved ride now [:D] Might just have saved myself £1500+ for KW V3s.......hurrah! Russ
 
Well, not today! Sunday. Did 250 miles around Shropshire (Over the Long Mynd- highly recommended) and Herefordshire to check out my new S/S exhaust fitting is ok (It is). Not too bad to fit, needed heat on the downpipe to bend it a bit to line up, but it is on.
 
Took a trip to Oulton Park in the filthiest weather, which dried out nicely and I took lots of pics of lots of Porsches (1 Nissan and 1 Aston too) and had a few very smooth and quick laps in a 964 C2 - thanks Steve

With great sympathies towards your own position, having just seen a Nissan Juke, the owner was clearly only trying to improve the looks of their car by crashing it into things! [:D][:D][:D] Sounds like the insurers are being reasonable so I hope it works out for you. Cheers Mick
 
Well we passed the "MOT" on Friday morning, took all of 30 minutes and the chap commented "very nice car" when he handed me my Certificate of Approval. He did point out though the sodding great nail in the rear tyre (which he listed as "immediate" without declining to fail the test), so popped over to see Rob @ ATS whilst I was out and about and he was amazed that the tyres had passed, as he measured both rears under the Manx limit with his depth gauge. I've ended up with a couple of Pirelli PZero Rosso's on order (fronts can wait a month or two, the missus will strangle me if I get 4 in one go) and we'll see how they go.
 
Collected my replacement cylinder head from the machine shop after many months, all done crack tested, new exhaust guides, springs, exhaust valve seats recut, new valve stem oil seals and a light skim. Just waiting for confirmation when I can take it in and have it fitted to my car with the new cam followers, cam chain and tensioner pads. Hopefully this will cure the long term rattling.
 
Finished change the front pads, only took a week [&:] One of the pins was completely rusted in, plenty of hitting, penetrating fluid, more hitting, a bit of cutting, more hitting, some yanking, more cutting and last tiny bit of hitting got it out. Then went to test them out, only to have flat battery [:mad:]
 
Completed me 843mile round trip Cornwall - Southampton - Llandysul - Southampton - Cornwall in the '44, she didn't ask for anything other than fuel and a drop of oil. Have found a small leak in the car though which a bit of rain got through. Got a few odd looks with a kayak strapped to the roof but she is now tucked up for a dry night in the garage again.
 
Changed the transmission oil, spark plugs and did a weekend trip to Newcastle. Have to say, the transmission changes feel soooo much lighter now. Finally got to test out the fuel economy on the 2.7 too: 34mpg motorway (ok, a bit of city driving too...) mostly at 80mph, so I'm quite pleased with that [:)]
