what did you do to your 944 today

Porsche script and turbo badge ready to go back on - paint was a few hours from being cured when I took that pic so they'll be going back on next week.

Greta to see these freshly painted cars. My S2 got dropped at the body shop today for the lower front wings to be removed and repaired as well as rear wheel arches and general surface rust around the bottoms. Will take some photos as they proceed, going to look at fuel lines whilst the wing is off. Any other things to check whilst the wings are off? Cheers Paul.

Finally got mine back following a mystery engine cut out at Snetterton in September! Turns out the new engine wiring loom and the existing loom were not connected together as they should be and the joint had overheated and melted the wires. Oops. All joined together via a fuse box now and new crank and cam sensors fitted just to be sure. Also got a boost gauge fitted so that I know the turbo is working! Turns out it is on 1.0 bar on high boost and about 0.5 bar on low boost (toggle switch allows adjustment whilst driving). This is a 2.8L conversion so I imagine there is no 'normal' but does that sound like safe territory... And could I go for more? Took so long because the poor guy doing the work put his back out in the middle of the job and couldn't crawl around under the dash for a few weeks. Just goes to show that whatever work is done and whoever does it, there are going to be some issues down the line with a modified car. Fingers crossed that's it for the time being. Cheers Mick

Started replacing all the nuts and bolts in the back end. Changed a cv boot, re-made a couple of brake pipes that I wasn't happy with. Oh and did the discs and pads on my company Focus.

1 bar is fairly conservative as long as everything has been built and assembled for that level. Remember that most standard 2.5 cars that get a chip and wastegate then run at 1.2 bar with no isssues (if they have a fresh head gasket). I would imagine the difference from the low boost level of 0.5 bar is like night and day!

Low boost feels a bit like the daily driver, high boost feels like peak power might be a bit more than my 250bhp 964 but the power band, as you might expect, is much narrower than the 964 which quite simply pulls like a train from 2000 rpm to the red line. It runs rough when cold and I am convinced a decent remap will work wonders so I might look to turn the boost up a bit when this is done. Not being particularly technical, is there anything that can be fitted to the car that would allow me to simply turn a dial and alter the boost? Clearly capping it at a sensible level might be a good idea! Heavy duty liners, JE forged pistons, Paulter rods, Cometic head gasket, ARP head and bearing studs... Should take a bit more boost I guess? Cheers Mick

1 bar on a 2.8L should easily be over the 300bhp mark, I know that 1 bar on my old 2.5L was 280bhp. Your mechanicals should all be able to take the extra boost but it all depends on the tuning and the air metering method that your build uses. My old Vitesse MAF would simply work out the extra fuel needed if the boost was turned up or down, however if you are still running the original Air Flow Meter then it won't be as simple as that.

The engine management is Motec using a variety of sensors. I am gradually learning how it all works but the technical terms elude me since I have not been part of putting the car together. The original air flow meter has been replaced by a sensor but the method of regulation I cannot confirm. The car was sold to me on the basis of having 250 bhp on low boost and 350 bhp on high boost but I am more inclined to believe 200 bhp and 300 bhp is closer to the mark. No dyno evidence ... Yet. Cheers Mick

Probably MAP. Manifold Absolute Pressure. Better than hot wire / hot film Mass Airflow Meters and decades ahead of barn-door Air Flow Meters, which the cars originally had. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MAP_sensor Id be surprised to see 350bhp unless a lot has been changed ( Limits: turbo [290/320 K26.6/8], injectors [275/320 dep FPR], intercooler [320], fuel pump [320], wastegate [300], exhaust [350]). There are a number of things about your car which prompt me to urge you to check everything very carefully and then have the car mapped by someone who knows what theyre doing. Id also add a wideband lambda sensor, and exhaust gas temperatire sensor and a KnockLink.

Got my black turbo out of hibernation,to see if she is all in order for a spin next week..all fab and groovy.Picked my little boy up from a party in it and surprised him,he was pleased.[:)] Roads feel greasy.. bit of boost and wahay!

Happy days [8D]

Did a track day at Bedford and played with some M3's. Car was faultless. Goes like a train and stops beautifully. Gaz gold performed very well though I might get brave and stiffen it up a little next time out (if dry). Used road tyres which I assumed would suit December weather but might have been better with the Yoko track- rientated rubber. Cheers Mick

Drove it to the 944 Christmas meal, where it was parked alongside many other cars that weren't 944s! [:D] Great to see everyone, thanks to Andy for organising it.

Good to see at least one of them! [:)] Thanks Andy for organising, it was an enjoyable day

Fitted a small hole punch sized bit of glow in the dark tape for the rear wiper switch so I dont always open the roof while trying to find it in the dark. Chucked in a cayenne boot liner which fits surprisingly well just needs a little altercations. Fitted a new sunroof seal as well :) took the old on off and found holes in both the rear corners which is where water must have been coming through during heavy rain.

£67 posted bud really good fit, made a bit longer so you will need to cut about 1/2 inch off but guess allows for some variables. Pretty much next day delivery as well :)

Saturday, I managed to get my clutch bled after replacing master, slave and hose, today she's booked in for MOT - so finger crossed :) Will be nice to have the old girl back on the road again, I've not used her for 6 weeks or so!!

Hi Will, If it was a proper one, it should be the exact length but be a bit of a nightmare to squeeze the whole lot on. I was told it will shrink a bit, so the excess is to allow for that.
