what did you do to your 944 today

Last week I decided to knuckle down and address the high CO on my car, so bought a new AFM from Max Schenker at Frazerparts. New being reconditioned, and it was fitted last Thursday. Has it transformed the way the car runs? No. Changed it a little but not transformed it. I'll see what the CO emissions are like at the next MOT. I also bought a new sunroof seal and a new passenger side window scraper. I fitted the window scraper last week and the sunroof seal today. Both are a royal pain to do, with the the window scraper being the harder of the two. It took nearly 3 hours, and left me with very sore fingers (which is why I waited until today to do the sunroof seal). Oh, I washed it and drove it as bit as well. Whoppee do. However while driving it I made a BIG discovery, which made me much happier! Thread here: http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=813382&mpage=1&key=&#813382 Oli.

Welded up the first of my "DIY" solid torsion bar carrier mounts.

This weekend I washed both of our cars - after a couple of weeks of looking for water leaks, I was fed up with not using my 944. On the friday I applied seam sealer to the seam between inner wing and door hinge panel, as I am now pretty sure that is where the water was getting in. I haven't actually hose tested the area since, but after washing the car at the weekend it was still dry inside. I will give it a thorough check one day this week - but I really hope I've sorted it now!! So with two clean cars, a quick drive out and a few snaps was necessary!! 1988 Porsche 944S by Hallsy01, on Flickr 1988 Porsche 944S by Hallsy01, on Flickr 1988 Porsche 944S by Hallsy01, on Flickr 1988 Porsche 944S by Hallsy01, on Flickr Honda S2000 & Porsche 944S by Hallsy01, on Flickr

ORIGINAL: Veerzigzag I too have a 944 and an S2000 - not quite as shiny as the ones seen above though..... Just need a dose of spring weather now!
Seems we have good taste!! I find them chalk & cheese to drive in terms of their controls - I get into the S2000 and feel like the gear linkage is broken - the shift is so short & precise!! I love them both though! Can't wait for the better weather, we bought the s2000 at the end of August last year, so not seen lots of top down weather. I had a mk1 Eunos for a few years, which was quite a good spec suspension/chassis wise and at the moment I felt I had much more confidence in the Eunos, you could feel what was going on at all times with that, whereas the steering on the S2000 can feel a little numb at times - but I have no doubt once I'm used to it my opinion will change.
ORIGINAL: Martin Sage Wow, that is one smart 'S'. A real credit to you [;)]
Thanks :) It is due to get smarter with every passing month, but it will be a slow process! It does polish up quite well, but close up the roof & bonnet are suffering a bit. I have given it a quick machine polish when I bought it, but it's almost like the bonnet & roof have been poorly lacquered by someone (perhaps in the hope to revive a faded top coat), so unless I can cut through it, I'll end up getting a few panels painted later in the year. I'm just a bit picky really!
ORIGINAL: Ewan Where's the passenger seat?!
Keen eyes! I've been chasing a water leak for a few weeks so I took the passenger seat out and got the passenger carpet up. I won't be putting it back until I'm sure it is sorted!! On Friday I sealed up what I now think is the problem area, so one morning this week I will give it the hosepipe test in the hope that I can put my interior back together!! In the meantime, think of it as race spec, lol!!

Decided to bite the bullet and replace front wings rather than have them repaired, managed to find some perfect ones already primed for sensible money, thanks to Keith! Goes in on 27 Feb and completed hopefully when I return from honeymoon. With a bit of luck it will look like Hallsy's[:)]

I do like to see car parts inside the house instead of everything being banned to the garage....but the mention of a honeymoon indicates that your wife might not have got round to barring you yet.

Ha ha, not my wife yet fella and hopefully by the time we get back they will be on and painted. ( Still two wishbones in the utility room sink though!!) Cheers Paul.

Overhauled my sticky boot latches, again! Opted for no grease this time, just some WD40. See how that goes. I done them about a year ago and greased them liberally but I think that has been there undoing!! Also noticed I had rust on my driver side mirror glass, couldn't actually be rust but weird all the sames. Anyway a lot of elbow grease later it was almost clean before it broke!![&:] See other post about needing a replacement!! Stuart

It's all quite clever in that lots of parts use thrust bearings - this makes the shaft wear problem on the gearstick a non-entity as it clamps on the outside of the gearshift tube with the bearings.

Think I may finally solved my fuel pipe replacement worries.Have replaced everything with proper goodridge hose and crimped ends. Fingers crossed.........

Any pictures? This is a job I'll be tackling once the weather improves a bit. Did you get them made up locally & could you give me an indication of the price?
