what did you do to your 944 today

Tried to start mine over the weekend and it wasn't interested. Had to swiftly move to Plan B without any diagnosis. Looked today and the rev counter needle wasn't moving as the engine turned over. Gave the sensor connector at the back of the engine a firm wiggle and press together and tried again: the needle bounced up to 1,000 and she fired up immediately. As far as I am aware this has never been an issue with the car in 25 years and 200,000 miles. On the other hand my newer and half as used 2.7l car started playing up over five years ago and I had a (relative to these) new 944 which did it occasionally too, despite only having covered 20,000 miles...

ORIGINAL: MarkK Picked up red T from Leicester, had an oil change, oil filter, plugs, leads, dist cap ,rotor arm,K and N clean of my cone filter, brake check, fixed m stereo speaker grill, repaired pipe and tap from catch can. I know the car very well and am super sensitive to changes,it has a touch better throttle response and spools up quicker.....how so?!!!
1. (Sensible Answer) Cars run better when serviced - which is why you service them! Fresh oil will lubricate better, meaning less engine friction, smoother running and a sharper throttle response. Cleaning the air filter will mean it can breathe more clearly, so the throttle response will be improved from that as well. New bits in the ignition system will mean you have a better, fatter spark which will lead to a cleaner and more complete burn of the air/fuel mix. None of these makes much difference, but the cumulative effect is tangible. (If you ever service a car that is long, long overdue for it then the effects can be quite dramatic and very rewarding.) 2. (Not-so-Sensible Answer that I still stand by) Read this: http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=606798&mpage=1&key=know%2Cbass򔉎 Oli.
Poppycock to no1, it has to be no 2 I'm certain! [:D]

[:D] Drove to Snetterton in red T today in afternoon, did a few laps and drove home, car went really well!Monster in a straight line a bit heavy and soft in tight bends but fun never the less. Going to have her cleaned tomorrow expect at least 25 bhp increase[:D]

That'll be those hydraulic tappets - wouldn't worry unless they are still noisy after 20 mins or so

If they do not quieten down put some wynns valve train flush in there, do not leave the car sitting idle for too long, pull the DME relay every couple of weeks and crank the engine over to get oil pressure around everything including the hydraulic followers...............lemon sqeezy They are circa £125 each BTW.................Look after them !

Replaced the plugs, HT leads and distributor cap on my 944 Turbo. Got to say every part of the job was a complete pig, loads of pipes leads and general stuff in the way on a 944 Turbo makes the job a complete PITA. Once completed and a beer opened, the engine cranked with absolutely no sign of firing. Lots of investigation and cursing and two problems, I had dislodged a connector at the rear of the engine and mixed up the leads for cylinders 2 and 4!! Didn't run well on 2 cylinders. Anyway all fixed now, I'm going for a lie down.....

Took mine for a decent run (E London to near Goodwood, for those who care) for a family birthday party. Marvelled at how well it tuns and what a joy it is to drive. No sign of grief with the gearshift getting stiff, and really enjoyed damp roads around the roundabouts of Horsham. [:)] I'm starting to think that that Forte stuff has done some good after all. It does seem to pull exceptionally well in gear as a result of the treatment. I'd recommend it. Oli.

Drove the 220 which is now for sale, sorted the hazard light switch which has been pushed out of the dash by my mot tester, not his fault as the barbs were goosed new one fitted but i managed to crack the bloody heater surround trim, even being very careful [] should have a spare in various boxes of bits, fitted a new rubber trim seal on the glovebox to sort the annoying bloody ratttle. Washed and dried, tyres and trim blacked, hoovered and looking bloomin lovely in low sunlight, Kalahari glows in low sun. Belts to be fitted this week along with a few minor niggle jobs hopefully for it's new owner who has been vetted for suitability of ownership [:D] Thinking of some excuses to keep the Turbo S, looks like i am getting a 997 Carrera 2S.

I'll do that. Thanks Frenchy [:D] So its a 997 2s then....... nice car. Hope you'll still talk to us mere 944 owners. We need to sort another meet out , possibly at Martins ?

Fitted a replacement dashboard clock. The existing one was developing the dreaded "cloudy screen of death".

Finally got around to a service for my Turbo - oil change & filter, plugs, dizzy cap and rotor arm over the weekend. Was expecting the rotor arm to be a total pain - managed to get a 3mm hex drive in and 'wake up' the small grub screw with a gentle tap. Screw came out and able to replace the rotor arm no problem ! Now running a lot better and not losing spark from the HT input !

Colin, i will be keeping the 88 car for now and if finances work out , i will be keping it end of, the 220 is getting a CV gaitor, diff oil cooler pipe leak sorted and the oil pressure sender leak sorted, farmed out to a mate with his own garage who i can trust, should also be doing the belts on Thursday.

Lowered the back end. Spent most of the Rutland adventure noticing how high its arse was compared to everyone elses. Doesn't help that its lowered at the front and as a bog standard lux, doesn't have any sort of rear valance. Popping over to see Elliot tomorrow to pick a 2 piece rear valance up. Seems to sit just right now. The roads round here are not good enough to go any lower. Only took an hour to do it!!!. Planned to do any niggly jobs that the run would uncover, but the old gal never missed a beat and seemed to pull really well. Left my side lights on all night and completely flattened the Battery[]

You need a second battery in the 944 then Nick! [;)] Glad you got the rear sorted - in good time too, had a feeling it may turn in to one of those all day jobs!

ORIGINAL: Hairyarse LOL, fit a buzzer relay - we were talking about those on Sunday actually - shouldn't be too hard a mod.
Wouldnt know where to start with that. [&:] Got a rear valance from Elliot as planned today. Sprayed up and ready to fit. Should make her bum look better.[8D]
