what did you do to your 944 today

I rang GAZ monday and they gave me the good news that the coilovers were ready after being altered! :)

So last night I went round to my mates where the car has been for the past month.

Today I spent most of the day sorting some brake ducts which were basically left over bits off of my Step dads Cobra so was a slight make it up as I go along job....

Quite well hidden, you can't see it at all when you actually look at the car.

It's not quite settled yet and we've got to play with the torsion bars on saturday so not quite the final height yet but you get the idea!

Still settling into it. Drove 150 miles and runs really good. A few clunks and dunks from the suspension. I need to zero all the poly bushes but can't do it till I can get the car on a 4 post ramp at the weekend. I think I will make up some stands that will bolt onto the hubs so that I can have the car off the ground but sitting on its suspension as if it were on it's wheels. I adjusted the front wheel bearings and checked the ball joints the driver side one is knackered but passenger side is ok, still going to replace both though. Also need to replace front discs as one has a slight warp in it that can be felt during braking.Got an idea about the ball joints but will discuss elsewhere on here.

Liking the brake duct mod, nicely executed! Do you notice much difference with it? It's a very tidy looking 944 [8D] What do you mean by 'zero' the polybushes?

Thanks all, in all honesty Andy I've not had the brakes fade at all since fitting these callipers but it was only last year in Germany I actually got brake fade on the original callipers. So to answer that I'll let you know after we've been back in June! [:D] I'm guess the last bit was to Colin?

12 months MOT on the 220, bloomin repeater indicator on O/S wing decided to pack up, 30 seconds and it was sorted, washed waxed and hoovered, wheels cleaned off the car, in and out, fella coming from London tomorrow with a view to buying.

Zeroing all the bushes is just having the car sat on it's wheels and letting the tension off the bushes and let them find their own place then tighten everything up and carry on. So you end up with all the bushes out of tension at rest.Simple really.

Finally got round to setting the idle as it was about 1200rpm when hot. Don't know why I didn't do it sooner, followed the guide on Clark's - the idle screw was quite far out so set it all properly and stuck a dab of clear silicone in there to keep it so.

Sold my 220, it has gone darn sarf to London, Solli the new owner may surface on here...............hopes he looks after it !

Sad to see it go as it was a genuine hard to find straight car, all original panels and never damaged every MOT and history, a massive folder from day 1, no rust or bumps or dings or ever welded, the carpets were like the day they left the factory, new belts and some minor cosmetic paintwork to make it minty, unmarked turbo teledials, very very hard to find !

I had a feeling it may be Soli buying the car ;). It is shame to see the car go at least you still have one 944 in your fleet :).

Actually failed my MOT today on 3 points: 1: Handbrake Efficiency - I've just removed the handbrake mechanism tonight, cleaned everything up and fitted a new handbrake gaiter too. Set the rear adjusters and re-assembled everything. Solid as a rock and will definitely pass now. 2: Split CV Boot - while I was doing the handbrake I cleaned all the moly grease up from the split boot. Porsche wanted just over £50 for 1 boot, car is going into my indy's tomorrow to have all 4 changed at £12 a pop for the parts. They'll also swap the driveshafts over if they look worn in any way. 3: Driver's side headlight aim too low - now the fun begins!!! MOT man came out to say that the beam was too low on the driver's side headlight but when he went back to adjust it the headlights wouldn't come up at all. I was told that I had an electrical problem and needed to get it looked at. I couldn't for the life of me work out what was going on as the headlights were working fine and then had suddenly stopped so I got the MOT tester to show me. He jumped in, ignition round 1 click, turned the headlight knob and . . . . nothing. He looked at me with a smug expression on his face that I'd dared to question him. I noticed that the indicator stalk was pushed forward for main beam, I leant over and knocked it back and the headlights popped straight up. My turn to look smug. The tester just quietly went . . . Oh! Serves me right for taking it somewhere that doesn't know their way around these cars . . . . My OPC!!!

Lovely weather so got the cars out and warmed them up while I cleaned the garage [:D] All started fine with great oil pressure and no leaks after their Winter hibernation, so time to enjoy them over the coming months [:)]

Cheers Jim, it's getting there but think I will use the new cloth I have and get Bridget O'Hara to retrim the seats this Winter if funds allow. Will probably get the seats out of the other Silver Rose done as they are slightly worse so makes sense to use them?
